CO of Long Island/Queens, NY -
Hello from the Long Island/Queens Chapter - just to let you know that we are
working hard to spread the Word. We are offering our second retreat weekend this
year at Our Lady of Grace Retreat House in Manhasset at which Mary Dwyer will be
presenting the Welcoming Prayer practice. We are excited about Mary’s being
with us. Our June retreat with 32 participants at St. Ignatius Retreat House was
very successful. We are seeing that more and more people are interested in
learning about Centering Prayer and praying together. We offered a Silent
Saturday and during the summer, a Saturday Get-Together. Both were well attended
by more than 30 people. As always, our January visit from Fr. Carl Arico drew a
large audience - everyone loves to hear Fr. Carl and spend the day with him.
Just wanted to keep you in the loop as to what we are doing here on Long Island.
Peace and love to all of you. Barbara Sullivan @ 516 481-0472,.

CO
of Orange County, NY -
Well, the retreat side of COOC is settling down. We now have four
different spirituality centers open to us so we can continue offering
the wonderful retreats and programs offered at St. Andrew’s Retreat
House and before that Chrysalis House. As of this moment, we are
preparing for the Wisdom School with Cynthia Bourgeault - the first of
three sessions begins at Bethany Spirituality Center in Highland Mills,
NY Sept 19-23, 2007. September 28-30, 2007 is our first month of the
Nine Month Course: The Practice and Deepening of Contemplative Living
also at Bethany.. November brings us to Divine Compassion at White
Plains for a Five Day Welcoming Prayer Immersion, and December to
Hastings-on- Hudson for our Advent weekend retreat, then back to Bethany
for our New Year’s Retreat with Bill Sheehan. Our August Ten Day Post
Intensive with Bill Sheehan will be at the Franciscan Center in
Ringwood, NJ (air-conditioned rooms and an Olympic size swimming pool).
In our plans for later this year will be a meeting of our Committee to
begin the process for selecting a Co-Coordinator which I hope will be in
place by early 2008. Our plans also include a monthly Enrichment Day
beginning in January at Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY. We are still
offering Introductory Workshops (low attendance), and are grateful for
all the faithful members of Centering Prayer groups. We invite you to
visit our website www.centeringprayernys.org
- We are more and more
grateful to the God Who has provided and continues to provide so loving
and supportive a community on this contemplative journey. Cathy
McCarthy, Coordinator @ 845 534-5180,

CO
of Westchester, NY -
welcomed summer on Sunday, June 24th with a contemplative Mass, potluck
supper and open leadership team meeting. Out-going co-coordinators Diane
Harkin and Stephanie Iachetta presented members of the leadership team
with gifts of appreciation for their service these past three years. The
group, in turn, surprised Diane and Stephanie with gifts of plants to
symbolize the growth in our chapter under their spirit- filled
leadership. We resume our Saturday programs at St. Patrick’s Church,
Armonk, September 8th with a Forgiveness Prayer Day led by Steve
Standiford and Sr. Rose Vermette. Tom Skinner will present “Indepth 12
Steps” November 10th, and Rosemary Camas will present Advent Scripture
readings December 8th. We will be blessed once again with Fr. Bill
Sheehan for a weekend Centering Prayer Retreat at Graymoor, Garrison,
NY, October 26th-28th. Participants have the option of attending
Saturday only. Every Coordinator, I am sure, is so aware of not being
alone in this service because of the generosity of those who are called
to the Leadership Team. God is good! Sr. Rose Vermette, RCD, Coordinator
@ 914-961-1559,

CO
of New Jersey -
Contemplative Outreach of New Jersey held its 1st Annual
Intensive/Post-Intensive Retreat in May 2007 on Long Beach Island. The 8
day retreat was held at Maris Stella Retreat House in Harvey Cedars, a
beautiful retreat property that offers both beachfront and bayfront
property. The retreat will be held again in May 2008 (from the 10th
through the 17th). The New Jersey chapter continues to offer people who
practice Centering Prayer a monthly enrichment program. Topics for the
2007-2008 program include Contemplative Living, Drumming, the Rule of
Benedict, Glorious Vessels in the Potter’s Hands, and Humility
Revisited. Fr. Carl Arico will join us on December 15, 2007 for an
Advent Day of Prayer. Anne and Jim Byrne of Cape May Court House have
generously accepted the invitation to become contact persons. They hope
to spread the message and practice of Centering Prayer through the
southern part of New Jersey, especially in the shore region of Cape May
and Atlantic Counties. Information on scheduled Contemplative Outreach
of New Jersey activities are posted on the Contemplative Outreach
website. Therese Saulnier, Coordinator @ 201 436-8256,

CO
of Mid Ohio -
It is a great joy to see the teaching, the vision, and the
network of Contemplative Outreach grow deeper and deeper roots in our
geographical area. We were asked to offer introductory programs in
Columbus, Fremont, Oberlin, Tiffin, Mansfield, and Mt. Vernon. More and
more prayer groups are being formed throughout our mid Ohio region. We
look forward to coming together again for the United in Prayer day on
March 15, to celebrate our growing community. The four day retreat at
Our Lady of the Pines in Fremont last summer was an amazing event. Anita
Donnan, Coordinator @ 419 610-8520, .

CO
Pittsburg, PA -
Early in 2007 the COP Leadership Team met to recommit to our leadership
roles, socialize and. honor Mark Nowak and Jeane Kish for their ten
years of contemplative service. Last year Mark Nowak joined the
Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. Board of Trustees after many years as
Co-Coordinator of the Pittsburgh chapter. In spite of the cold this past
winter, people came out for Introductory Workshops, the Annual United in
Prayer Day, and two parish missions with Fr. Carl Arico. The Calvary
Episcopal centering prayer group instituted a monthly Silent Saturday
Prayer for Peace. Thanks to Jack Shaw’s commitment to working through
the logistics, COP presented a four-week Introduction to Centering
Prayer to 100 men at the Allegheny County Jail. We also had a chapter
wide Day of Reflection about the proposed Vision Statement and
Theological Principles. Many Pittsburgh facilitators and presenters were
able to attend the Advanced Facilitator Training and New Essential
Training given by Susan Komis and Roseanne Havird hosted by
Contemplative Outreach Greensburg. Fr. Bill Sheehan is scheduled to lead
a 4-Day Intensive Retreat from September 13-16,2007. We look forward to
many great gatherings in 2008 including a spring enrichment day with
Sister Maria Tasto who will present a Lectio Divina Workshop on April
26th. We continue to be grateful to Contemplative Outreach, Ltd. for all
the support and resources they provide. Ruth Hofmann @
and Lois Snowden @ , Co-Coordinators. |
