of North San Diego, CA - During the last six months of 2007 CONSD
offered several spiritually enriching opportunities for our membership
and the community at large. We hosted an Introductory Program in
September and another in October. Our North San Diego Chapter gathered
in late August for a Half Day Retreat to experience a time of “Sacred
Rest” before the hectic schedule of Fall began. October brought Bryan
McNutt, M.Div., a Hospice Spiritual Counselor and Centering Prayer Group
Facilitator to speak to us on Contemplative Dying. We explored ways in
which the transformative dimensions of our own dying and living are
encountered and faced through the practice of contemplative prayer as
well as teachings of various spiritual traditions, our life experiences
and depth psychology that shapes contemplative dying within our own
lives. Lunch and a thought provoking discussion followed his inspiring
presentation. For Advent in early December we had Fr. Carl Arico speak
to us-- as only he can-- with his disarming sense of humor which opens
the door to his profound spiritual messages. We have marked our
calendars for a very special Event with Fr. William Meninger on May 10,
2008. We have quarterly meetings with our Prayer Group Facilitators to
affirm and support their invaluable service. Our Hospice Outreach Team
is continuing to serve end of life patients with their contemplative
presence. Our talented webmaster, Anne Alferos, has built a beautiful
and informational website. Please log on to www.consd.com
and check it
out! We look forward to 2008 as we strive to live not only our Vision
Statement but also our CONSD Mission Statement which is to teach
Centering Prayer, build a Christ centered community and support the
contemplative life.

of Hawaii -
Aloha from Hawaii! In February, a festive group gathered to celebrate
Cathie Jordan’s six years of service as our Coordinator. Mahalo
Cathie! Thanks also to Carol Alevizos who now serves in that position.
Monthly leadership team meetings guide the contributions of several
service teams. We are grateful to Susan Komis whose introduction to the
servant -leadership model a few years ago still guides our leadership
development. Local Introductory Workshops and prayer groups continue to
benefit from the Formation for Contemplative Outreach Service Training
presented by Gail Fitzpatrick-Hopler and Timothy Koock in February 2006.
In November 2006, Gail returned to Honolulu with Fr. Carl Arico and
Marie Howard for the 20th Anniversary Tour activities. We continue with
Mornings of Centering Prayer every other month, which are well attended
and include a popular min-introduction for newcomers. Prayer Group
Facilitators gathered in June for a day-long enrichment presentation and
pot-luck lunch provided by Mary Pat Sjostrom after attending the
facilitator formation at St. Meinrad. In July, we once again offered an
8 day combined Intensive/Post Intensive retreat at St. Anthony Retreat
Center in Kalihi Valley on Oahu. this dual-track 8 day retreat is
scheduled annually. Carol Alevizos, Coordinator @ 808 536-6090,
