The importance for me of Centering Prayer in the world today is that I don’t think that it takes a whole lot of people to hold center. And for me it gives me some compassion for what may be really insane people out there who have a lot of power and are doing things that are affecting a lot of people. While I would normally get angry about that and reactive, instead I find myself having compassion for them and I can hear myself actually forgiving them because they don’t know what they are doing. They truly don’t know what they are doing! And there’s a part of me that thinks that neutralizes something. Maybe I’m fooling myself, I don’t know. But for me it is a much better experience. I don’t end up, myself, losing force or losing energy because I’m angry. Instead I’m compassionate – we’re in a mess! And we need each other. There’s a reason we’ve all been brought together as human beings in this world, to be stewards for this world, and I just wish to be able to neutralize what now seems to be more and more anger and distance between people.
