Safe

I was on a silent retreat sitting outside having a cup of tea watching a little critter poking his head and periodically I’d see dirt flying up out of the ground as he was busy digging.  I was thinking how afraid animals are and how being still around them sometimes creates a sense of safety and they come out and show themselves.  I began to think about God and how when I still myself I become more aware of Him.  Then I thought, but God you are not afraid.  And it was like God said, “no, the silence is for you, so you feel safe enough to come out.”
