Liturgy is a communal response to the sacred through activity reflecting praise, thanksgiving, supplication, or repentance, usually ritualized. Liturgy as practice is intended to deepen our relationship with God and with the Body of Christ, represented by the community. Thomas Keating, in The Mystery of Christ, says, "The liturgy is the supreme vehicle for transmitting the divine life manifested in Jesus Christ, the divine-human being. When Jesus through his resurrection and ascension entered into his trans-historical life, the liturgy became the extension of his humanity in time. The feasts of the Liturgical Year are the clothes, so to speak, that make visible the Reality hidden but transmitted in sacramental rites."
