Day of Contemplative Prayer
A Brief Introduction to Two Contemplative Practices: Centering Prayer & Lectio Divina
Saturday, October 6, 2018
9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Christ Episcopal Church
Anacortes WA 98221
Christian monastics and mystics through the ages have written about and practiced a contemplative relationship with God that takes place in silence deeper than words. Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina are two practices in this tradition. This day will offer you a brief starter on the contemplative path that has called many to a lifetime of study and fidelity.
In the morning, we will focus on Centering Prayer, a contemporary adaptation that provides a method for sitting in silent prayer. In the afternoon, we will focus on Lectio Divina, an ancient contemplative way of relating to scripture. You will learn the basics and have an opportunity to practice each practice.
May this small taste whet your appetite for more exploration of the riches of our Christian contemplative tradition.
Presenter: Cherry Haisten serves on the Contemplative Outreach national team for the Welcoming Prayer, travels widely to lead workshops as a part of Contemplative Outreach’s Living Flame program, and facilitates contemplative retreats focusing on a variety of themes.
