Bill Wilson, one of the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, coined the term “Emotional Sobriety” in his famous article of the same name published in the AA Grapevine in 1958.  He noticed that some AA members with long-term sobriety still experienced troublesome adolescent emotional reactions, which were frustrating and discouraging.  He realized the cause was “faulty emotional dependencies upon people, upon AA, indeed, upon any set of circumstances whatsoever”.   We know today that contemplative prayer heals the emotional wounds of our lifetime.  Contemplation is an alternative consciousness that refuses to identify with or feed what are only passing shows. It is the absolute opposite of addiction, consumerism or any egoic consciousness.  Only contemplative prayer touches the deep unconscious, where all of our real hurts, motivations and deepest visions lie. This day will focus on using contemplative practices to respond with a new heart and being fully present in each moment.
