SUMMARY:Guard of the Heart – via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:“One practice to bring the effects of contemplative prayer into daily life is traditionally known as “Guard of the Heart.” This consists of letting go of every emotional disturbance as it arises and before we start thinking about it. This method is more sophisticated than dismantling the emotional programs for happiness because it deals with the whole of life. It expresses our ongoing intention to be with God in the present moment and sustains it.” (Fr. Thomas Keating\, 2017) \nThis class will teach the practice of “Guard of the Heart” (Also referred to as “Watchfulness” or “Presence Practice”) and how it compliments our Centering Prayer\, and the practices of the Welcoming Prayer and the Active Prayer Phrase. We will learn the three ways any afflictive thought or emotional disturbance can be instantly released as it arises. Join us for this enriching and deepening complementary practice. DESCRIPTION:Do you have questions about Centering Prayer and whether it is the right practice for you? Are you ready to begin a practice but need help getting started? Are you interested in deepening your current practice and would like a refresher and connection with other practitioners? Join us to learn more about consenting to the presence of God through the practice of Centering Prayer. Let praying without words\, in deep silence and openness\, bring you to a more complete awareness of the Divine Indwelling. \nThis retreats follows the international Contemplative Outreach Ltd. approach\, combining short presentations\, two Centering Prayer practice sessions\, and ample time for questions and discussion. It is open to anyone\, whether you have a longtime Centering Prayer practice or have never tried this form of prayer. There’s enrichment and insight for everyone. \nSeveral accessible parking spaces are designated in front of the church.
