SUMMARY:The Practice of Letting Go: The Wisdom of Release in Contemplative Prayer - via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:The Practice of Letting Go: A 90-minute Mini-Retreat\nThe Wisdom of Release in Contemplative Prayer \nSo much of our inner life is shaped by what we hold onto — fixed identities\, familiar ways of thinking\, inherited beliefs\, and the stories we tell about who we are. \nContemplative practice invites us to loosen\, open\, and “let it go.” But what does that actually mean? How do we let go of a thought\, a belief\, or a way of seeing ourselves and the world? And how can that be so healing? \nJoin this gathering to explore the practice and wisdom of letting go: not erasing our thoughts or identities\, but loosening our identification with them so we can rest in the deeper Presence both beneath & within the activity of our busy minds. \n90 minutes\, online\nLed by Keith Kristich\, Closer Than Breath

SUMMARY:I Am - The Sacred Doorway into the Aramaic Heart of Jesus
DESCRIPTION:The seven “I am” statements in the Gospel of John are a window into who Jesus is and the heart of his teaching. From the perspective of Jesus’ native language of Aramaic\, these statements can also reveal who we are – and how we can enter more deeply into Divine Presence through the heart of Jesus’ teachings. Drawing on the work of Dr. Neil Douglas-Klotz\, Cynthia Bourgeault\, and others\, this weekend invites us to enter the I am sayings through this deeper lens. Together we’ll explore how these teachings open us to Presence\, identity\, and deep belonging in God and the heart of reality. Through guided reflection\, chant\, movement\, and Centering Prayer\, we’ll listen for the living resonance within each phrase. Our time will be nurturing and unhurried\, offering space for personal insight and gentle sharing. All are warmly welcomed to rest\, receive\, and rediscover these timeless words. \nAvondale Presbyterian Church\, 2821 Park Rd\, Charlotte NC 28203. \nMore information and registration: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hDCPDCg1sZPAKlE9MsDCeYEQg_2FoNfWkccusM5unCo/edit?tab=t.0

SUMMARY:Presence\, Prayer\, and Writing From the Heart: A Contemplative Writing Retreat
DESCRIPTION:We are never closer to our Creator than when we are creating. In writing\, we engage in God’s infinite creative impulse to birth the new\, the unexpected. Silence and stillness can assist that process by opening a portal to inner depths where we connect to ourselves\, to others\, to God\, and all of creation. \nAll of us have myriad stories to tell\, but some of us are compelled to share them through writing. Our stories can take many forms—memoir\, essay\, poem\, blog posts\, or journal entries—but the most compelling are the ones written from the heart\, those that touch and move us and sometimes transform both the writer and reader. Writing from the heart demands attentiveness\, honesty\, courage\, and a commitment to engage with a creative process that pulls us into the unknown\, where we are often surprised at what surfaces. It’s a journey of discovery. And what can help are presence and prayer. \nThis contemplative writing retreat will braid Centering Prayer sessions\, brief talks\, writing prompts\, and story sharing. There will also be time to walk the grounds\, read\, and rest. Come listen to the still small voice and find the stories that need to be voiced. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer retreat weekend
DESCRIPTION:St. Benedict frequently unites silence and prayer in the work of seeking God. Centering Prayer is one of several prayer practices that flow out of Benedictine Life. Thomas Merton describes Centering Prayer as “a ‘return to the heart\,’ finding one’s deepest center\, awakening the profound depths of our being in the presence of God.” The goal is to be present to the Lord and aware of the divine action within you. \nThis introductory retreat will provide the background and fundamentals of Centering Prayer and teach how to develop a continuing practice. \nLeaders \nDonna Kreiensiecki is a Contemplative Outreach commissioned presenter. She has 20 years of experience offering Centering Prayer retreats and has practiced Centering Prayer for 30 years. Mary Bieter is a certified spiritual director trained at the Shalem Institute in Washington\, D.C. She was introduced to Centering Prayer twenty years ago and is a newly commissioned presenter with Contemplative Outreach. She has adopted a consistent daily practice of Centering Prayer in recent years and hopes she can help others discover the peace and clarity it can offer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Contemplative Attitudes
DESCRIPTION:This is an Intensive Centering Prayer Retreat based on the work of David Frenette in his seminal book\, The Path of Centering Prayer\, hailed by Fr. Thomas Keating as\, ‘The best\, most comprehensive and most practical\nbook on Centering Prayer.’ \nDavid Frenette is a leader and senior teacher in the Centering prayer movement\, a longtime student and friend of Fr. Thomas Keating. On this silent retreat we will explore the simple contemplative attitudes common to every way of Christian contemplation\, some of which include: Simplicity and Awakening\, Gentleness and Effortlessness\, Letting Go and Letting Be\, among others. \nAn established practice of Centering Prayer is required to attend this retreat as we will be sitting in Centering Prayer for several hours each day. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Sacred Circle Dance as a Companion to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“God is not remote from us; . . . on the contrary\, at every moment God awaits us in the activity\, the work to be done\, which every moment brings.”\n-Teilhard de Chardin\, Hymn of the Universe \nDuring this in-person retreat\, we’ll introduce contemplative dances from the Sacred Circle Dance tradition. These simple movements\, done in a group setting\, help us unite mind\, heart\, and body to deepen our prayer practice. Together we’ll explore how the combination of music and movement can be a companion to Centering Prayer\, in which we open our hearts to consent to God’s presence and action within us. \nPresented by Suzi Kindervatter\, former COMW team member and veteran teacher of Sacred Circle Dance\, and Linda Hall\, co-coordinator of COMW. \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Seeking the God Within
DESCRIPTION:A Centering Prayer 8-day retreat with Fr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI\n(Arrival 3:00-4:00 pm)\nTwo of the basic teachings of Fr. Thomas Keating are his human development theory that he describes as The Four Consents\, and the Prayer in Secret. During our time together\, Fr. Sheehan will explore these teachings as a way of going deeper and discovering in the words of St. Augustine that the God we seek is closer to us than we are to ourselves. Resources referenced: Thomas Keating: Invitation to Love\, and Manifesting God. \nWe will be in silence for meals\, breaks and prayer time. Periods of Centering Prayer will be included in our time together. There will be discussion following each of Fr. Sheehan’s presentations. Spiritual companioning\, and body work will also be available. \nRegister online at hsrcenter.com by June 28. A non-refundable deposit of $50 is required when registering.\nFor more information contact Sr. Chris at centeringprayer@hsrcenter.com or (818) 815-4480

SUMMARY:Fr. Bill Sheehan OMI and The Welcoming Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Fr. Bill Sheehan will invite us to enter the inner room of the heart\, where true spiritual perception awakens. Through the practices of Centering Prayer\, the Welcoming Prayer\, Lectio Divina\, intentional breathing and forgiveness\, we learn to move beyond the ego and cultivate heart perception. This capacity to listen intently with the heart is essential to living a fully human\, spiritual life and allows God’s presence to reveal true reality. \nWho Should Attend: Anyone longing to deepen their spiritual life by learning to listen with the heart\, and to experience the transformative presence of the Spirit. \nPlease email the address below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:8 Day Silent Intensive and Post-Intensive Retreat with Father Bill Sheehan
DESCRIPTION:Come rest in silence with other contemplative companions\, away from the busyness of daily life\, and allow the mind\, body\, and spirit to surrender to God’s presence and action within. \nThis 8 day retreat offers a more in-depth experience of silent prayer for those who already have an established practice of Centering Prayer of 6 months or more. It is an opportunity for deeper union with God through a communal sharing of silence and stillness. For those making their first weeklong silent retreat\, the Intensive\, we will be using the video series by Thomas Keating\, The Spiritual Journey. The simultaneous Post Intensive track includes additional time in silent prayer instead of video presentations for those who have previously made an Eight Day Intensive Retreat. \nThis retreat offers a double track simultaneously: Intensive I and Post Intensive. If this is your first Centering Prayer retreat of this length the Spiritual Journey Videos are shown in Intensive I. They lay a necessary foundation for the practice for life and especially intensive retreats. \nIntensive I: There will be 3 sets of two 30-minute periods of Centering Prayer daily and 2 sessions of watching video talks from Fr. Thomas Keating’s Spiritual Journey series with optional discussion. \nPost-Intensive: There will be 3 sets of two 30-minute periods plus two additional 30-minute periods of Centering Prayer daily. \nLectio Divina and a optional contemplative Eucharist will be offered daily for everyone\, as well as optional soul-friending with staff. \nThe retreat will be facilitated by Contemplative Outreach staff: Father Bill Sheehan\, OMI\, Marty Badgett\, Mary Beth Rhiner\, Jim McElroy\, Kristina Frank and Susie Brent. \nTo Support Your Retreat Experience: A daily practice of Centering Prayer for 6 months or longer is recommended. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.
