SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Centering Prayer\nFostering Intimacy with God through Silence & Stillness \nPresenter: Sr Ruth Ann Madera \nSourced from the depths of Christian contemplative tradition\, Centering Prayer has emerged as a life-changing prayer practice for those who embrace it. Centering Prayer is a receptive method of Christian silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer; prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us\, closer than breathing\, closer than thinking\, closer than consciousness itself. Its purpose is to foster a deeper intimacy with Christ through the silence and stillness of contemplative prayer. \nJoin us to learn the method or to renew your practice of this ancient form of silent prayer. \nPlease register using the link below.

SUMMARY:5-day Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Ground of Our Being led by Fr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI \nFor many of us\, our contemplative practices are the root and foundation of our spiritual life. Grounded in these practices\, we then engage with the world around us. During this retreat\, Father Bill will explore the convergences that are present between the spiritual exercises and Centering Prayer as a basis for such grounding. May we take these days of silence\, presentation and Centering Prayer as an opportunity to stretch our roots more deeply into rich soil. \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer and Three-Centered Knowing: A Silent Centering Prayer Wisdom Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Centering Prayer … is the opening of mind and heart\, body and emotions–our whole being–to God\, the Ultimate Mystery\, beyond words\, thoughts\, and emotions.”\n—Thomas Keating\, Open Mind Open Heart \nIn Centering Prayer we practice letting go to the Divine Indwelling\, building up a muscle of release\, of consent to the presence and action of the Ultimate Mystery in our lives. Our Centering Prayer deepens further when we engage with our whole being: mind and heart\, body and emotions\, as Thomas Keating urges us. In this retreat we will explore Centering Prayer as a practice\, in a way suitable for those new to it\, as well as for those who have been practicing for a long time. Along with this\, we will explore three-centered knowing\, not just with our heads but with our entire physical\, emotional\, and intellectual being. In The Wisdom Jesus\, when Cynthia Bourgeault talks about tuning into Jesus as a living being here with us now she says\, “It’s not knowing something more\, like a new fact or piece of esoteric information; it’s knowing deeper\, knowing with more and more of your being engaged.” \nJoin us in person at Mercy Center\, Burlingame\, California\, where we will gather together and practice silence\, Centering Prayer\, and wisdom practices of chanting and movement that will help to engage our whole being. SUMMARY:Wisdom School Retreat: Invitation to a Wisdom Way of Knowing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a rhythm of practice\, learning\, and integration in togetherness and solitude. \nThe Wisdom stream is at the contemplative headwaters of every religious tradition including Christianity. Wisdom takes many shapes and forms and is more concerned with the transformation of the human being than on a set of right beliefs. The Christian Wisdom lineage is about learning to listen to the Divine within and see that we are deeply interconnected in a larger whole of which we are meant to responsibly take part in. This kind of listening and seeing requires that we include our three centers of knowing—mind\, feeling\, and body—in the spiritual organ of the heart which sees from wholeness and oneness. \nJoin us for a Wisdom School for beginners on the path and experienced practitioners\, designed to bring a rhythm of practice\, learning\, and integration in togetherness and solitude in order to invite a ‘wisdom way of knowing.’ With periods of teaching\, Centering Prayer\, chanting\, embodiment practices\, lectio divina\, contemplative sharing and free time\, this Wisdom School will explore the core tenets of the Christian Wisdom Tradition through the lineage of Cynthia Bourgeault. We will focus on the Wisdom tradition as the Way of the Heart\, the organ of spiritual perceptivity\, and dive deeply into the three centers of intelligence (mind/intellectual\, feeling/emotional\, body/sensation-al) which comprise it. Wisdom Schools prepare us to live more consciously and to show up in the world holding our post as planetary servants. \nRetreat Schedule (please note that schedule is subject to change) \nFirst evening: \n7:00-8:30 pm Opening Evening \nDaily schedule: \n* Breakfast on your own \n9:00 am Chanting and Centering Prayer \n9:30 am Break \n9:45 am Morning Session \n11:15 am Break \n11:30 am Embodiment Practice/Movement\, or Conscious Work \n12:00 pm Lunch (talking optional) followed by contemplative free time \n2:00 pm Chanting and Centering Prayer \n2:30 pm Break \n2:45 pm Afternoon Session \n4:15 pm Break \n4:30 pm Contemplative Practice \n5:45 pm Dinner (talking optional) \n7:00-8:30 pm Evening session – reflection\, discussion\, synthesis of day’s work\, ending with chanting and centering prayer \nLast day: \n* Breakfast on your own \n9:00 am Chanting and Centering Prayer \n9:45 am Final Teaching \n11:00 Closing Circle \n12:00 End & Departure \nRetreat Facilitator: Heather Ruce\n\nHeather facilitates Wisdom practice circles\, groups\, retreats\, and Wisdom schools. She offers teaching and guidance in various embodied Wisdom\, contemplative and mindfulness practices including Centering Prayer\, Christian meditation\, sacred chanting\, lectio divina\, conscious work\, and sacred gestures. She has had many companions\, guides\, and teachers along the way\, all of whom have contributed to who she is and the work that she does. Her work is especially informed by her Masters education in family systems therapy and depth psychology and the teachings of Cynthia Bourgeault in the Christian Wisdom Tradition\, and Steve Hoskinson in the integration of trauma healing and complexity science through his model Organic Intelligence.

SUMMARY:Communion to Community: "That We May Be One"
DESCRIPTION:Reflecting on the teachings of Fr. Thomas Keating and Beatrice Bruteau\, Colleen Thomas will lead us in exploring the heart of Jesus’ teaching in the Gospel of John 17. In this Gospel\, Jesus’ final prayer can be summed up as “that they may be one\, as we are one.” As we commune with God through Centering Prayer\, we become one with God. \nYet like the prayer itself\, becoming one with others is not always so easy. SUMMARY:After the Resurrection with Fr. Carl Arico - in person or via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:“Each feast of the liturgical year is both an event to be celebrated and a grace to be received.”\n– Fr. Thomas Keating OCSO\, The Mystery of Christ: The Liturgy as Spiritual Experience \nJoin us for a day of Centering Prayer\, recollection and celebration as Fr. Carl Arico explores with us the graces to be received in the grand liturgical feast of Pentecost. What unfolds for us in the time between the Resurrection and Pentecost? How does the feast of Pentecost touch our hearts? Let us linger together and ponder that “The Spirit…is not given only once… it is an ongoing promise\, an endless promise…always\, fulfilled and always being fulfilled.”(Fr. Keating\, The Mystery of Christ) \nThis day of recollection offers TWO ways to participate: attend in-person at The Center at Mariandale\, or join in on Zoom. Time listed is Eastern Time. \nFee: $50.00 with lunch in person; $30.00 ZOOM. Fr. Carl’s presentation will be recorded and available to all who register. Please see the link below.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:God — the source of true joy and lasting peace — is not outside\, at a distance from ourselves. God is the very origin of ourselves. Contemplatives of all traditions know that\, as the author of The Cloud of Unknowing writes\, “God is your being.” Contemplative practice is a means of sinking into the deeper parts of ourselves and waking up to our rootedness in God as the Ground of Being.\nBut it can be a struggle to sit still and “just be.” The capacity to be is the mystical way of deep prayer & contemplation: resting in God beyond the activity of our mind\, body & email — resting in God as the Beingness of our being\, the Source of our self. \nWeaving teachings from Fr. Thomas Keating\, Cynthia Bourgeault\, Rupert Spira\, and The Cloud of Unknowing\, this retreat explores how Centering Prayer opens us to God’s Being within us and the Becoming of God expressed in our daily lives. \nJoin this Centering Prayer retreat to explore:\n· God as the universal Ground of Being\n· Why oneness with God is so practical\n· Contemplation as a way of opening to our natural state of mind\n· The role of attention & “Objectless awareness” in Centering Prayer\n· Finding God as closer that breath \nGod’s peace and presence of God are at the source of our very selves. \nJoin this retreat to explore in theory and practice!
