SUMMARY:6-Day (5 Night) Intensive Silent Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This Contemplative Outreach intensive retreat provides an opportunity to deepen your established Centering Prayer practice in an atmosphere of silence and community\, away from the busyness of daily life\, and to allow your mind\, body and spirit to surrender to God’s presence and action within. Before attending the retreat\, you should have an established daily practice of Centering Prayer for at least six months to one year. This retreat features about four hours of Centering Prayer each day along with videos from the Thomas Keating “Spiritual Journey” video series. Except for opening and closing times\, silence will be observed throughout the retreat\, including at meals. \nThe Priory requires retreatants to be Covid-19 vaccinated and boosted\, and to wear a mask in designated areas. A COVID-19 test will be required and\, depending on conditions at the time of the retreat\, other restrictions or changes to plans might apply. More specific information will be provided to registrants prior to the retreat. \nFor more information and to register: email Sr. Anna-Camille Wooden at camillewooden5@gmail.com. A deposit of $100.00 upon registration will secure a place in the retreat. $50.00 is refundable if you cancel before the balance due date. Partial scholarships are available.

SUMMARY:Presence\, Prayer \, and Writing From the Heart
DESCRIPTION:All of us have many stories to tell. Some involve your family history\, spiritual journey\, experiences in Nature\, or a life-changing situation. Stories can take many forms\, but the most compelling are the ones written from the heart\, those that move us and sometimes transform both the writer and reader. Writing from the heart demands attentiveness\, honesty\, courage\, and a commitment to engage with a creative process that pulls us into the unknown where we are often surprised at what surfaces. It’s a journey of discovery. And presence and prayer can help us along the way. \nThis writing retreat is structured for those currently working on a project\, those who want to start one\, or those who simply desire to spend time in beautiful surroundings playing with words. In addition to Centering Prayer sessions—silence can be a portal to the Source of creativity and truth-telling—there will be ample opportunities to write\, walk\, think\, and just be.

SUMMARY:The Healing Power of Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Led by The Rev. Tim Grayson \n“You have made us for yourself\, O Lord\, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”\n– St. Augustine \nThomas Keating\, one of the founders of the modern Centering Prayer movement\, popularized the Centering Prayer process as “divine therapy” because it enables the healing of deep psychological wounds and promotes spiritual growth. According to Keating\, this therapy leads to the “purification and healing of the unconscious\, thus deepening the practitioner’s relationship with God.” Acknowledging and releasing troubling thoughts that bubble up from deep within helps deconstruct the false self that emerges in childhood from our efforts to find security amid damaging societal and familial influences. \nIn this retreat\, Tim Grayson\, a member of COMW’s coordinating team and an Episcopal priest\, will review the work of renowned spiritual guides such as Keating\, Basil Pennington\, Thomas Merton\, Cynthia Bourgeault\, and Jim Finley\, who have written extensively on the healing properties of Centering Prayer. SUMMARY:The Healing Power of Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Rev. \nIn this retreat\, Tim Grayson\, a member of COMW’s coordinating team and an Episcopal priest\, will review the work of renowned spiritual guides such as Keating\, Basil Pennington\, Thomas Merton\, Cynthia Bourgeault\, and James Finley\, who have written extensively on the healing properties of Centering Prayer. The program will include three Centering Prayer sessions and ample time for discussion. \nTim is a longtime board member of Listening Hearts Ministries\, which is dedicated to teaching the practice of spiritual discernment\, and is an authorized Listening Hearts trainer. He also has a burgeoning interest in Christian mysticism.

SUMMARY:Lectio Divina and the Four Senses of Scripture
DESCRIPTION:This Praying Holy Scripture retreat offers Centering Prayer periods plus presentations based upon Fr. Thomas Keating’s teachings on the deepening levels of faith: the Four Senses of Scripture – literal\, allegorical\, behavioral/moral\, and unitive senses. The presentations teach a contemplative way of listening to and reading Scripture known as the ancient monastic practice of Lectio Divina. During the retreat\, one will experience the interplay of the silence of Centering Prayer and Praying Holy Scripture combined with the rhythm of this Episcopal Benedictine monastic community’s worship and prayer life including Holy Eucharist. This contemplative retreat welcomes those comfortable with silence and yearning to learn this ancient way of praying rather than studying Holy Scripture. \nCheck-in is from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Tuesday. Vespers begins at 5:00. Dinner then follows. Orientation begins at 6:45 pm. The retreat concludes with noon meal on Friday. (Daily Holy Eucharist is available at 9:00 a.m.). The suggested donation for the retreat is $430. The retreat fee includes a single room and all meals. Shared single occupancy bathrooms in the hallways. \nRetreat Leader: Leslee Anne Terpay: As a Contemplative Outreach Commissioned Presenter of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina\, Leslee shares Fr. Thomas Keating’s teachings on the Christian Spiritual Journey to Love in workshop and retreat settings. She is part of the Service Teams that steward Fr. Thomas’s teaching for serving Intensive Retreats and Lectio Divina. She is a spiritual director in Lone Tree\, CO and a graduate of The Center for Action and Contemplation Living School. \nTo register\, please contact our Guesthouse Office by phone (845-384-6660\, ext. 3002) or email (guesthouse@hcmnet.org).

SUMMARY:In Silence with Thomas Merton
DESCRIPTION:Introducing a new retreat series with Br. Ephrem Arcement\, OHC at Holy Cross Monastery: called “In Silence…”\nTHIS RETREAT IS CURRENTLY FILLED. \nThe hope for each of these retreats is to explore the life and spirituality of a given mystic of the Christian tradition and to begin learning how to put their wisdom into practice. Components to the retreat will be conferences on a given mystic\, group sharing and Q&A\, and contemplative prayer\, along with opportunities for prayer and Eucharist with the monastic community. \nThe inaugural In Silence… retreat will explore the life and spirituality of the Cistercian monk Thomas Merton. Thomas Merton is widely regarded as one of the foremost spiritual writers of the twentieth century whose influence extends well beyond the Cistercian monasticism or the Roman Catholicism which he called home. Join Br. Ephrem Arcement\, OHC in encountering this profound figure who did so much to shape the contours of the contemplative and prophetic traditions in the church today. \nSuggested reading for retreat: New Seeds of Contemplation \nRegister by e-mail or phone with our Guesthouse Manager\, Donna Mallory at 845-384-6660 ext 1 or at guesthouse@hcmnet.org.

SUMMARY:An Introduction to a Wisdom Way of Knowing: A Wisdom Practice Series via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:An Introduction to a Wisdom Way of Knowing: Wisdom Practices Series \nJanuary 20th\nThis Sacred Path: Three Centered Knowing\nThis Sacred Surrender: Centering Prayer \nJanuary 27th\nThis Sacred Voice: Chanting\nThis Sacred Body: Gesture & Movement \nFebruary 3rd\nThis Sacred Self: Witnessing & Welcoming\nThis Sacred Heart: The Way of the Heart \nThis is a series introducing some key elements of the Christian Wisdom tradition\, particularly as synthesized by Cynthia Bourgeault. Wisdom has ancient roots and tends to re-emerge in our awareness in times of great individual and collective transition and turmoil. Wisdom is about seeing through the eyes of wholeness and is anchored beyond the changing circumstances of life. \nDuring this Wisdom Practice Series we will introduce teachings and practices that support us in the Wisdom Way of Knowing. These practices will include three-centered awareness\, self-observation\, Centering Prayer\, sacred chanting\, body movement\, lectio divina\, sharing and discussion. These are all in service of consenting to the presence and action of God in our hearts\, the organ of spiritual seeing\, and in our lives. The more we are able to put these into practice\, the better our ability to respond to what is needed in the world. \nFacilitators: \nHeather Ruce\, M. A. is a Wisdom Spiritual Director who offers Wisdom Practice Circles\, Retreats\, and Wisdom Schools focused on the expansive Christian Wisdom Tradition. She works within the lineage of Wisdom Teacher Cynthia Bourgeault whom she has been a student of for over a decade. Heather weaves her Masters in Marital & Family Therapy and training in Somatic Experiencing\, Organic Intelligence & Spiritual Direction into her teaching and guidance in various Wisdom practices in service of waking up and putting on the Mind of Christ. Find out more at heatherruce.com. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director whose offerings include Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices of the Christian Wisdom tradition. These practices encourage us to lean into the Love that is constantly being offered within a relational web of Sacred Unity. As a scientist she sees in the physical world an expression of that love. Joy regularly offers retreats on Centering Prayer\, often emphasizing the incarnational nature of the Christian path. She recently published The Cosmic Web: Hope for Our World Through Science and Spirituality. You can find more about her at joyfulfillment.com. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, retired psychologist\, and adjunct staff member at Mercy Center\, primarily serving on the Centering Prayer team. She has a special interest in participating in the reclamation of the Christian Wisdom tradition and fostering the contemplative practices so urgently needed at this time in our world. \nCONTACT\nFor further assistance\, contact us at (650) 340-7474 or mcweb@sistersofmercy.org \nThese are unprecedented times. SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Centering Prayer\nFostering Intimacy with God through Silence & Stillness \nPresenter: Sr Ruth Ann Madera \nSourced from the depths of Christian contemplative tradition\, Centering Prayer has emerged as a life-changing prayer practice for those who embrace it. Centering Prayer is a receptive method of Christian silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer; prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us\, closer than breathing\, closer than thinking\, closer than consciousness itself. Its purpose is to foster a deeper intimacy with Christ through the silence and stillness of contemplative prayer. \nJoin us to learn the method or to renew your practice of this ancient form of silent prayer. \nPlease register using the link below.

SUMMARY:5-day Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Ground of Our Being led by Fr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI \nFor many of us\, our contemplative practices are the root and foundation of our spiritual life. Grounded in these practices\, we then engage with the world around us. During this retreat\, Father Bill will explore the convergences that are present between the spiritual exercises and Centering Prayer as a basis for such grounding. May we take these days of silence\, presentation and Centering Prayer as an opportunity to stretch our roots more deeply into rich soil. \nPlease see the link below to register.
