SUMMARY:Present to Presence: A Silent Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:August 15 – 18\, 2021 \nThomas Keating once posed the question: Why go on retreat? His response was “to experience the deepest silence” and “just … [to] be\, opening uninterruptedly to God’s presence and to the enormous energy of love that creates and sustains us and the universe…” \nEven in our covid world\, it’s important to step away from daily life and turn our focus inward. During this retreat\, silence will begin after Sunday night’s gathering and end after breakfast on Tuesday. In between\, there will be periods of Centering Prayer\, lectio divina and eco divina (listening to God in Nature)\, morning and evening prayer as well as personal time to walk\, read\, journal or simply gaze at the waters of Long Island Sound in a beautiful summer setting. Single rooms with private baths will be ready at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The program will begin after dinner. All meals from Sunday dinner through Wednesday breakfast are covered by the fee. Call the Center or visit the website to register (see below). \nCome listen to the still small voice. Let the deep silence enfold you\, embrace you.

SUMMARY:Presence\, Prayer and Writing from the Heart Retreat
DESCRIPTION:August 19 – 21\, 2021 \nAll of us have myriad stories to tell. Some involve your family history\, spiritual journey\, experiences in Nature or a life-changing situation. Stories can also take many forms — memoir\, essay\, poem\, blog posts\, or journal entries — but the most compelling are the ones written from the heart\, those that touch and move us and sometimes even transform both the writer and reader. Writing from the heart demands attentiveness\, honesty\, courage and a commitment to engage with a creative process that pulls us into the unknown where we are often surprised at what surfaces. It’s a journey of discovery. And what can help are presence and prayer. \nThis writing retreat is structured for those currently working on a project\, those who want to start one\, or simply desire to spend time in beautiful surroundings playing with words. In addition to Centering Prayer sessions — Silence can be a portal to the Source of creativity and truth-telling — there will be ample opportunities to write\, walk\, think and just be. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Wisdom School: The Imaginal Realm
DESCRIPTION:“The imaginal is a meeting ground\, a kind of cosmic intertidal zone … In this realm\, the fruits of our human strivings — both conscious and unconscious — are offered up to the whole. From this realm\, in turn\, we receive blessing\, inspiration\, guidance\, and vivifying force\, which are ours to share and bestow here below.” \n―Cynthia Bourgeault \n+ \nThe Mercy Center Centering Prayer Program presents:\nWisdom School: The Imaginal Realm \nYou are invited to join us at Mercy Center in Burlingame. Rest\, reflect\, and explore the imaginal realm during this special summertime retreat experience. \nThis ‘Wisdom School’ will use Cynthia Bourgeault’s e-course video teachings to explore the Imaginal Realm so that we might learn to open ourselves to this world that surrounds and sustains us and to give back\, participating in this divine exchange as conscious planetary servants. \nThe teachings draw from her book Eye of the Heart: A Spiritual Journey into the Imaginal Realm in which she offers us a new cosmic map and perspective of how an attuned and open heart may approach the current challenges we face and receive the assistance necessary for navigation. \nThere will be an integration of Cynthia’s transmissions and an invitation to a ‘wisdom way of knowing’ through a daily rhythm of periods of video teaching from Cynthia\, Centering Prayer\, chanting\, mindful work\, mindful movement\, sharing\, and contemplative free time. \n*In addition to the registration fee\, this wisdom school requires extra material costs of $137. Please bring a check with you\, made out to Way of Wisdom Knowing. Included in this fee is access to the video teachings to review afterward. \nRetreat Leaders: \nHeather Ruce\, M.A. is a wisdom spiritual director with a background as a therapist and training in a neurophysiology-based approach to trauma resolution. She loves working with individuals as well as facilitating groups and retreats focused on learning and practicing the Wisdom Tradition. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center. Joy is dedicated to fostering contemplative practices such as Centering Prayer and others within the Christian Wisdom tradition that help us become aware of God’s ever-present love. As a scientist\, she sees in the physical world an expression of that love. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, retired psychologist\, and adjunct staff member at Mercy Center\, primarily serving on the Centering Prayer team. She has a special interest in participating in the reclamation of the Christian Wisdom tradition and fostering the contemplative practices so urgently needed at this time in our world. \nFuture Centering Prayer Dates at Mercy Center in Burlingame CA:\nFall Triduum Prayer Morning (Online): October 30\nCentering Prayer Wisdom Retreat : Dec 3-5\nCentering Prayer retreat: Feb 18-20\, 2022\nCentering Prayer Spring Triduum (Online): April 14-16\, 2022\nCentering Prayer retreat: May 22-29\, 2022 \nCONTACT \nFor further assistance\, contact us at (650) 340-7474. For more information visit: www.mercy-center.org\nThese are unprecedented times. Each session is about 20 minutes long with a 10 minutes break in between. You can interact with Fr. Jos while you are attending just like being in a classroom. This way of praying in silence opens our hearts and minds to consent to God’s presence and action beyond words\, responding to the call of the Holy Spirit. \nIn this small retreat\, you will be introduced to the concepts and methods of Centering Prayer. Presented by Fr. Jos\, who had been presenting this retreat for several years\, will capture your attention and keep you interested and make it enjoyable. Over 200 people have taken this retreat from Fr. Jos to date. You can ask questions just like in any other class even though we will be distanced from each other in person. The blessing of technology will help us become one group even though we will be sitting behind the screens in the comfort of our homes. Here below are topics that will be introduced and reflected in this retreat. \nIntroduction to Centering Prayer Practice\nPrayer As Relationship\nMethod of Centering Prayer\nThoughts And Use Of Sacred Word\nDeepening Our Relationship with God \nhttps://withribbon.com/s/191327\nPlease register using the link below. SUMMARY:The Divine Feminine and the Transformation of Consciousness
DESCRIPTION:HYBRID RETREAT October 15-17\, 2021 Starts 10 am Friday and ends 12 pm Sunday\n$300 Online / $350 on site at Mercy Center in Burlingame\, CA \nIn the practice of Centering Prayer we open ourselves to God in the unknown places of ourselves\, to the unloading of the unconscious mind\, each time we give our consent to the presence and action of the Holy Spirit. This willingness to say “yes” to the darkness\, “the cloud of unknowing”\, prepares us to receive self-knowledge\, to see reality more clearly for ourselves and for others in the light of awakening to truth. \nIn our Christian heritage we venerate Mary\, the God-bearer\, who enters the unknown to bring forth life giving fruit for the world. She sometimes appears as swarthy or coal black as an invitation to welcome our shadow so that we too may bring forth our gifts for the benefit of the cosmos and realize our wholeness – that we are both darkness and light. Embracing the dark feminine in ourselves roots us in our true nature and generates wellbeing for ourselves and our planet. \nRetreat Leaders:\n\nRev. Amber Sturgess is an Episcopal Priest\, spiritual director\, and a seeker on the contemplative path. She enjoys teaching contemplative practices that deepen our spiritual awareness. Amber currently serves as Rector of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Carmel. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center. Joy is dedicated to fostering contemplative practices such as Centering Prayer and others within the Christian Wisdom tradition that help us become aware of God’s ever-present love. As a scientist she sees in the physical world an expression of that love. \nHow will the hybrid retreat work?\nYou are invited to join us from your own home OR AT MERCY CENTER in Burlingame as we practice integrating prayer with our life\, in our circumstances as they are. Teaching sessions will include experiential\, participatory\, and embodied exercises to draw us more deeply into the healing\, contemplative space. Breaks will be provided for further integration. \nProgram Features\n•	Live Online Centering Prayer Sessions – Join via Zoom (at Mercy Center or at home) at scheduled times or practice on your own.\n•	Live Online Teaching Sessions by Rev. Amber Sturgess. Join us live via Zoom (at Mercy Center or at home) or view recordings at a later time.\n•	Live Online or in-person Small Groups – for experiential processing (not recorded). \nYou can participate in one of three ways:\n1)	From home online. The retreat is designed so that you can choose as much or as little of it as fits in your life\, on any given day.\n2)	In person at Mercy Center\, participating online from your laptop in your own room and enjoying the beauty and peace of the grounds. There will be opportunity for some participation in live groups on site\, or you can participate entirely online. \nEverything will be on Zoom so we’ll all be sharing the retreat no matter where we are. We trust that God’s love surrounds all of it\, all of us\, exactly as we are. \nCOVID Protocol is still in place at Mercy Center\, and everyone entering the building must be fully vaccinated\, and wear masks in all common areas indoors except when eating. For this reason\, it is important to also include the following in your packing:\n1)	A record of having been vaccinated\n2)	At least one mask\n3)	Hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer is provided by the Center\, but it helps if you will also bring your own.\nFor more information about Mercy Center’s COVID protocols\, please click on the link below.\n Guest Protocol – Mercy Center Burlingame (mercy-center.org) \nPlease register at www.mercy-center.org or telephone 650-340-7474

SUMMARY:Visio/Lectio Divina
DESCRIPTION:Mary Kay Laplante\, of Bethany Retreat Center\, and Beth Graboski\, of Contemplative Outreach\, will\noffer a workshop/retreat combining the ancient practices of Visio Divina and Lectio Divina. Visio\nDivina (Divine Seeing) is a way of drawing closer to God through meditation on visual objects. It is an\nintentional way of praying with images. Mary Kay will offer an informative lecture and practicum using\nher beautifully hand-painted religious icons as images to be contemplated in this prayer form.\nBeth Graboski will introduce you to the ancient practice of praying with Scripture known as Lectio\nDivina (Divine Reading)\, one of the great treasures of the Christian tradition of prayer. Lectio Divina\nreveals the four senses of Scripture-the literal\, the allegorical\, the moral/behavioral and the unitive in\na Spirit-led\, transformative experience of relationship with the Divine. Come and let the Spirit speak to\nyour heart as you “see” and “hear” scripture revealed through these ancient prayer forms. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:At the Edge of Waiting: Centering Prayer and Celtic Spirituality - Online
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Carl McColman \nJoin us for an online retreat day where we will explore the connections between Celtic wisdom and contemplative spirituality! Celtic Christianity — the poetic and earth-positive spirituality of Ireland\, Scotland\, and Wales — has long been appreciated as one of the most beautiful expressions of faith in the western world. The Celts had a mystical sense of God’s abiding presence that was expressed through the venerations of holy wells and other sacred sites\, stories of remarkable saints who lived in deep harmony with nature\, and profound spirituality with roots in the ancient wisdom of the desert mothers and fathers. Our time together will celebrate Celtic spirituality in the light of the practice of Centering Prayer — which also has roots in the desert and remains a profound doorway into the ordinary mystical life. We will pay special attention to the Irish understanding of contemplation\, which will bring us to a deeper appreciation of the silent beauty of Centering Prayer. \nCarl McColman is the author of numerous contemplative books\, including “An Invitation to Celtic Wisdom\,” “The Big Book of Christian Mysticism\,” and “Eternal Heart.” Carl co-facilitates a Centering Prayer group in Decatur\, Georgia\, and is a commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer Introductory Workshops.
