A Silent Saturday provides a few hours that are set aside for Centering Prayer\, Lectio Divina\, spiritual teaching and reflection. “Come rest awhile with the Lord” this Lent. \nFr. Bill will be discussing the ongoing process of our integration in relation to Four Consents. These consents serve as a framework for understanding the spiritual journey and correspond to the stages of our life. The four consents include accepting the goodness of our being\, accepting the goodness of our creative energy while developing our talents\, experiencing God as we face and consent to the diminishment of aging\, and ultimately\, saying yes to our transformation. \nFr. Bill is a priest and member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He was present at the Lama retreat convened by Fr. Thomas Keating OCSO which founded Contemplative Outreach. We begin to respond rather than automatically react to life on life’s terms. As the originator of Welcoming Prayer\, Mary Mrozowski\, said\, “To welcome and to let go is one of the most radically loving\, faith-filled gestures we can make in each moment of each day. It is an open-hearted embrace of all that is in ourselves and in the world.” During this half-day online retreat\, we will learn about the conceptual background and the method of The Welcoming Prayer\, and we will practice it in community. \nMeet Mary Dwyer \nAn early student of Fr. Thomas Keating\, Mary has been practicing Centering Prayer since the 1980s. In the early 1990s\, she lived at Chrysalis House\, a contemplative community in Warwick\, New York\, blessed by Fr. Keating\, with housemates who included Mary Mrozowski\, David Frenette and Cathy McCarthy. The community became an incubator of practice and programs in the early years of Contemplative Outreach’s growth. Mary calls this period her “inpatient” or “residential treatment time” that proved to her that a life of prayer\, consent\, and practice is real\, stable\, and deeply rewarding. \nMary has given years of service to Contemplative Outreach\, Ltd.\, including as a member of the Contemplative Outreach Faculty and Gift Committee\, coordinator for the Living Flame program\, and coordinator of the Miami Chapter. In January she stepped down as chairperson of the COL Governing Board. She continues to serve the Finance/Legal Team and the Welcoming Prayer Service Team. \nMary now divides her time between private practice as a licensed clinical social worker and leadership of retreats and workshops on behalf of Contemplative Outreach throughout the US and internationally. DESCRIPTION:This five-day Centering Prayer intensive retreat provides an opportunity to deepen the practice of Centering Prayer in an atmosphere of silence and community support. This retreat follows the Contemplative Outreach guidelines for an intensive retreat including five to six 30-minute Centering Prayer periods on most days. An established practice of Centering Prayer for at least six months is recommended but not pre-requisite to attend. \nThe retreat begins Monday with check-in from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and concludes the following Friday morning. The retreat fee of $550 includes a single room (with private bath) and meals. We are limiting the number of registrations to 25 including retreat leaders so each has their own room for solitude. The cost of this retreat has been lowered by $200 per participant due to a grant from the Contemplative Outreach Divine Economy Fund. The fund is dedicated to making Fr. Thomas Keating’s teachings in retreats accessible to Centering Prayer practitioners. \nPrince of Peace Benedictine Monastery encompasses 126 acres atop a hill approximately two miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Located in Oceanside\, California\, the monastery offers a serene haven for contemplation and spiritual growth. The grounds include walking paths\, Stations of the Cross\, and prayer chapel. \nThe monastery will be serving three meals a day but does not provide special meals.
