SUMMARY:Heartfulness workshop - via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:In the Heartfulness 9-week series\, Fr. Thomas Keating reminds us that we are called by God to open to a new reality that is our true Self … the image and likeness of God. The path to this true Self and all its fruits and gifts is the challenge of becoming fully human\, and to become fully human is to become fully divine. This is the fullness of life itself\, a life abiding in the grace and truth of Christ\, while at the same time\, fully being the unique person you are. Fr. Thomas calls this the journey of heartfulness\, and says that Centering Prayer might be thought of as heartfulness. Centering Prayer as contemplative prayer is a reflection on the mysteries of faith that has been digested and reflected upon and expressed in acts of love until it has simplified into a movement of the will that is becoming quasi-permanent – a way of occupying the mind and transferring it to the heart so that with practice it becomes more “heartfulness” than “mindfulness”. \nThis is a 9-week series beginning on Thursday\, September 23 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm Mountain Time.  Please register using the link below.

SUMMARY:“The Cloud of Unknowing” via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:An anonymous Christian contemplative from the middle ages wrote the classic work The Cloud of Unknowing. Centering Prayer\, of course\, is based on this seminal work of spiritual practice. The whole of The Cloud of Unknowing is about contemplation. The practice of contemplation goes beyond the mind. It goes into unknowing. The author is insistent on this point. Our minds cannot grasp God because God is transcendent mystery. Therefore\, we must pray beyond the thinking mind. \nIn this half-day retreat\, we will seek to learn how to deepen our practice of Centering Prayer from the mysterious author of The Cloud of Unknowing. There is deep teaching in this work concerning how we deal with thoughts\, humility\, intention\, and growth in divine unity. \nLed by LJ Milone\nHaving practiced Centering Prayer for 17 years\, LJ Milone has gone deep into the Catholic tradition. His spirituality is greatly influenced by Francis of Assisi\, Meister Eckhart\, the Cloud of Unknowing\, Thomas Keating\, Richard Rohr\, Anthony De Mello\, and\, ultimately\, the teachings of Jesus. As a pastoral minister at a Catholic parish in Silver Spring\, MD\, he has served the faith formation needs of children\, as well as adults since June 2007. A leader of many retreats\, lectures\, and classes on the topics of the teachings of Jesus\, contemplative prayer\, Centering Prayer\, Christian mysticism\, and contemporary spirituality\, LJ is also a spiritual director receiving his training at the Hesychia School of Spiritual Direction in Tucson\, AZ. \nRegister using this link (scroll to event date) https://contemplativeoutreachofmarylandandwashington.org/retreats-events/half-day-retreats-intro-workshops/

SUMMARY:7th Centering Prayer and Enneagram Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Centering Prayer and Enneagram” retreat is meant for anyone who wants to advance in their contemplative prayer practice with a deeper knowledge of who we are and why we do the things we do. Knowing who we are is the first step into growing in wisdom. Enneagram personality types will show us what motivates us and why some of us can focus\, learn\, pray\, and have a discipline of life better than others. \nThis online one-day retreat on zoom is a quick look into the Enneagrammic person in us. When we know what inspires us\, then it will be easier for us to pray and play. When we pray well\, we will play well\, meaning\, we will do whatever we do for living joyfully. \nSet aside one day and take this program from the comfort of your home. Each session is about 45 minutes long with a 10 minutes break in between. You can interact with Fr. Jos while you are attending just like being in a classroom. You don’t need to download anything or call anyone. Just simply be home in your PJs and have a cup of coffee and relax\, learn\, and grow. Register now and you will be provided with a secure link for the Zoom Retreat. \n09:30 am Introduction and Prayer\n10: 00 am Session 1\n10: 50 am break\n11: 00 am Session 2\n11: 50 am Centering Prayer Session\n12: 10 pm Lunch break\n01: 00 pm Session 3\n01: 50 pm break\n02: 00 pm Session 4

SUMMARY:Wisdom\, Then and Now
DESCRIPTION:During this class we will examine wisdom as it is found in the Hebrew Scripture known as Wisdom Literature. We will explore what these books offered to the community of Israel\, look at how they are reflected in the New Testament and see how they are carried out in our contemplative community. \nFinally we consider the teachings of Thomas Keating and other contemporary spiritual writers to discover how ancient wisdom is made new again for our contemplative community. Wisdom is part of the mystery of Divine Presence in our lives and as such is constantly being revealed to us in ever deeper ways. This class provides the participants background information to passages they might use in prayer\, study or Lectio. \nSaint Augustine says that we cannot love what we do not know. Join us to learn more about wisdom and see where it leads. Each class has time for reflecting on questions suggested by scripture and then sharing what we discover from our own life experience. Sharing our own wisdom and listening to the wisdom of others gives us examples and insight into God at work in our daily lives. \nA printable online journal is provided. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Richard Rohr\, OFM - "When Everything is Adrift"
DESCRIPTION:We are offered a tremendous opportunity in our day to change ourselves and our world. This opportunity may be described as a time of major regression\, denial of the past and even collapse! This is no exaggeration as we look at the state of our planet\, our worldwide politics of despair\, the abandonment of many religious traditions and Western Christianity in particular\, the loss of moral authority through the pedophilia crisis in the Catholic Church\, and what historians will probably refer to as the abandonment of truth. Not to mention the pandemic and its global effects. How do we rebuild on such a non-foundation? \nPlease see the event web link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:A Contemplative Approach to Following your Inner Guidance
DESCRIPTION:In this single-evening class\, Dr. Reynold Ruslan Feldman\, the author of six books on practical wisdom\, will help us understand what wisdom is\, how we can tap into the aquafer of holy wisdom that lies deep within each of us\, and how we can follow its guidance. Using both Centering Prayer and several free-writing exercises\, he will open us to the only partially discovered riches of our true selves\, our birthright wisdom. Bring with you\, life experience\, curiosity\, a willingness to follow the promptings of the Spirit\, a notebook or paper\, and pens or pencils. \nReynold Ruslan Feldman\, Ph.D.\, is a “pro-tired” English professor\, dean\, and academic vice-president. He is also the author of 10 books\, the majority of which are on practical wisdom. The most recent\, Wisdom for Living-Learning to Follow Your Inner Guidance\, co-authored with Sharon Clark\, was published in July 2019 by John Hunt Publishing\, England. Besides three degrees from Yale\, Reynold has studied at Heidelberg University\, Germany\, and has taught in Germany\, Denmark\, and Indonesia as well as the United States. He is a 59-year practitioner of the Subud Spiritual Program and has studied Centering Prayer with both Fr. Keating and Sr. Joan Tuberty\, OSF. A linguist\, Reynold speaks eight languages. He currently lives with his wife\, Dr. Cedar Barstow\, in Boulder\, Colorado\, where they are members of St. John’s Episcopal Church. \n  \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.
