SUMMARY: Introduction to Centering Prayer (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer is a form of Christian prayer rooted in the ancient Christian contemplative tradition. Its purpose is to foster a deeper intimacy with Christ through the silence and stillness of contemplative prayer. This time of pandemic has led many to seek to deepen their relationship with God through this wordless prayer of contemplation. \nThis workshop/retreat is designed for those new to Centering Prayer and will be held over Zoom. A reliable internet connection with the capability for audio and video is required. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion. \nRetreat Director: Sister Mary McGehee

SUMMARY:Body Presence and Contemplative Awareness - Intro to BioSpiritual Focusing via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Mike Smoolca\nCo-sponsored by Contemplative Outreach Chicago and Contemplative Outreach of Connecticut. \n9:30 AM to 2:15 PM Central Time Zone (10:30 AM to 3:15 PM Eastern Time Zone) \nDiscover a deeper awareness of healing and wisdom accessible to each of us through our bodies. BioSpiritual Focusing\, like Welcoming Prayer\, is a practice that allows you to become more aware of welcoming and holding your body feelings with curiosity and loving care. At its most profound level it gives you access to your membership as the collective Body of Christ. In this experiential workshop you will be introduced to the overall method of BioSpiritual Focusing and be given some tools and awareness you can apply to enhance your own sense of Body Presence and contemplative awareness. We’ll cover the following material: \nConference 1: How BioSpiritual Focusing fits into the Landscape and Spirituality of Body Presence and Contemplative Awareness practices.\nConference 2: Introducing BioSpiritual Focusing – Clearing Space and The Felt Sense – The fundamental building blocks and tools\nConference 3: The method of BioSpiritual Focusing with demonstration\, discussion and next steps \nThere will be a time of Centering Prayer together. \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Introduction to The Welcoming Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“Martha\, Martha\, you are worried and anxious about many things … but one thing is needful.”\n-Luke 10:42 \nThe Mary and Martha story is an example of the focus we can bring to everyday life activities. As the Welcoming Prayer 40-day practice booklet reminds us: “To assist this process\, we need complementary practices. Centering Prayer teaches us consenting in stillness; the Welcoming Prayer practice teaches us consenting in activity.” \n“The Welcoming Prayer practice is a way of letting go into the present moment in the ordinary routines of daily life. It is used when your needs for security\, affection and control are frustrated or gratified and cause emotional reactions. It is a way of turning everything over to God …” Thomas Keating\, Open Mind\, Open Heart \nThe presenters are part of the community of the Center for Contemplative Living in Denver CO. Over the years they have been blessed through the presence and teachings of Thomas Keating OCSO\, and Mary Mrozowski as well as many other spiritual leaders. \nWe hope to see you at our workshop. May you be open to including the Welcoming Prayer in your invitation to the Holy Spirit to extend the walls of your inner room to all of life. \nTime listed is Mountain Time (Denver\, Colorado)\nClick the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Lectio Divina Workshop: In Person or Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, December 4\, 2021 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm\nIn Person at the Center for Contemplative Living\, Elm Grove\, WI or Via ZOOM \nRegister for $20 or for FREE on the website\, and a Zoom link will be emailed with your registration confirmation. Please see the link below to register. \n“Praying the Scriptures” or Lectio Divina (the divine word of God) is a contemplative tradition taught in the monastic vs. scholastic style of hearing the living Word of God in the sacred spaces of everyday life. This workshop\, presented by Sr. Kathryn Ann Kobelinski\, SSND\, and Jill Nowlen\, MASFD\, both commissioned presenters of the prayer\, will share the method of this heart-to-heart conversation with God\, while reading\, reflecting\, responding\, and resting in the words of Scripture. Even if you practice Lectio\, you will find this workshop will deepen the practice and will bring the scripture texts into your every day life. This is not a scripture study. It is a way to allow God to have a conversation with you and to give you a gift of understanding. Many Centering Prayer groups find it helpful to practice Lectio Divina with the scriptures for the upcoming Sunday liturgies after their Centering Prayer time. For planning purposes\, please register so that we have space for everyone. Thank you!

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer as an 11th-Step Practice for those in 12-Step Programs
DESCRIPTION:The primary purpose of the 12-Step outreach team of Contemplative Outreach Northwest is to deepen our practice of the 11th step: “Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him\, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.” We try to pass on the simple method of Centering Prayer to others in recovery. \nCentering Prayer is a type of prayer that has been used over the centuries\, but it is different from what we may think of as prayer. It is simply moving deep within ourselves\, in silence\, saying nothing\, asking for nothing\, just being and allowing our Higher Power to be with us. For those who are working a recovery program\, parallels can be found between the transformation that Centering Prayer brings and the process of growth facilitated as we work the 12 Steps. We believe that\, when applied as a daily supplement to the 12 Steps\, Centering Prayer opens us to the deepest dimension of spirituality. \nThis half-day Zoom workshop will introduce people in recovery to the practice of Centering Prayer\, with time to learn and practice the method\, ask questions\, and learn about local and national resources for continuing and deepening your practice. \nOn Zoom\nFree of charge\nHosted by St. Placid Priory Spirituality Center\, Olympia\, WA. \nINFORMATION –> click HERE.\nREGISTER NOW –> click HERE.

SUMMARY:At the Edge of Waiting: Centering Prayer and Celtic Spirituality - Online
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Carl McColman \nJoin us for an online retreat day where we will explore the connections between Celtic wisdom and contemplative spirituality! Celtic Christianity — the poetic and earth-positive spirituality of Ireland\, Scotland\, and Wales — has long been appreciated as one of the most beautiful expressions of faith in the western world. The Celts had a mystical sense of God’s abiding presence that was expressed through the venerations of holy wells and other sacred sites\, stories of remarkable saints who lived in deep harmony with nature\, and profound spirituality with roots in the ancient wisdom of the desert mothers and fathers. Our time together will celebrate Celtic spirituality in the light of the practice of Centering Prayer — which also has roots in the desert and remains a profound doorway into the ordinary mystical life. We will pay special attention to the Irish understanding of contemplation\, which will bring us to a deeper appreciation of the silent beauty of Centering Prayer. \nCarl McColman is the author of numerous contemplative books\, including “An Invitation to Celtic Wisdom\,” “The Big Book of Christian Mysticism\,” and “Eternal Heart.” Carl co-facilitates a Centering Prayer group in Decatur\, Georgia\, and is a commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer Introductory Workshops.

SUMMARY:Visio/Lectio Divina
DESCRIPTION:Mary Kay Laplante\, of Bethany Retreat Center\, and Beth Graboski\, of Contemplative Outreach\, will\noffer a workshop/retreat combining the ancient practices of Visio Divina and Lectio Divina. Visio\nDivina (Divine Seeing) is a way of drawing closer to God through meditation on visual objects. It is an\nintentional way of praying with images. Mary Kay will offer an informative lecture and practicum using\nher beautifully hand-painted religious icons as images to be contemplated in this prayer form.\nBeth Graboski will introduce you to the ancient practice of praying with Scripture known as Lectio\nDivina (Divine Reading)\, one of the great treasures of the Christian tradition of prayer. Lectio Divina\nreveals the four senses of Scripture-the literal\, the allegorical\, the moral/behavioral and the unitive in\na Spirit-led\, transformative experience of relationship with the Divine. Come and let the Spirit speak to\nyour heart as you “see” and “hear” scripture revealed through these ancient prayer forms. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Intro to Centering Prayer Workshop-IN PERSON or ZOOM
DESCRIPTION:“For God alone my soul waits in silence\, for my hope is from God.”\n– Psalm 62:5 \nDuring these challenging times Centering Prayer is a way to draw closer to God. It is a Christian form of meditation that serves as a method of movement into contemplative prayer\, a way to open oneself to the Divine Presence and\, through the healing of the Holy Spirit\, to be of greater service to those around us. \nThe benefits of Centering Prayer are experienced more in daily life than during the time of Centering Prayer: \nWe may find ourselves becoming more tolerant and less judgmental. \nWe may be able to come back into balance more easily after an emotional upset. \nA greater understanding of the needs of the human family emerges and leads us to respond with acts of mercy and compassion. \nWhen: Saturday\, September 25\, 2021\, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm Central Time \nWhere: Center for Contemplative Living\, Elm Grove\, WI./Zoom is Optional \nCost: $20 is suggested. However\, no one will be turned away. \nSponsored by: Contemplative Outreach of Southeastern Wisconsin (COSEW). \nThe Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop familiarizes participants with the method of Centering Prayer and its conceptual background and offers two opportunities to experience the prayer. The program will be led by Contemplative Outreach trained presenters. \nIf requested\, the Zoom link information will be sent separate from the registration confirmation email. \nIf you have any questions about this course\, or about Zoom\, please contact Jack Dierks by email dierks.jack@gmail.com or phone or text at (414) 688-1677. \nPleas see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer is a receptive method of Christian silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer\, prayer in which we experience God’s presence within us\, closer than breathing\, closer than thinking\, closer than consciousness itself. \nThis method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to deepen that relationship. \nIn this session\, we will examine how Centering Prayer can deepen our relationship with God\, others and ourselves. SUMMARY:Spirituality in Everyday Life via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:In this six-week course\, Fr. Keating continues to expand on the human condition\, using St. Anthony of Egypt as a paradigm of a pilgrim on the spiritual journey and shows how this early desert saint’s struggles mirror ours with the false self. Fr. Keating then takes us beyond the struggle to liberation from the false-self system and from our cultural conditioning. Fr. Keating continues explaining the psychological unloading process that lies at the heart of healing. \nHe describes four “moments” of Centering Prayer\, during which unloading occurs\, and compares the process to an archeological dig as the Divine Therapy takes us deeper through layers of our own woundedness. The course will also introduce us to Lectio Divina and the concept of transforming union\, as well as the Night of the Sense\, which are addressed more fully in Course 4. \nThe prerequisites are Courses 1 Basic Centering Prayer and 2 Human Condition. \nThere are two different times to choose from for this six-week course. Times listed are Mountain Time.  Please register using the link below.
