SUMMARY:The Welcoming Prayer (Part I & Part II) via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by Contemplative Outreach of Southeast Wisconsin\nPart I: February 13\, 9:30-11:30 am US Central Time\nPart II: February 20\, 9:30-11:30 am US Central Time \nTo welcome and to let go is one of the most radically loving\, faith-filled gestures we can make in each moment of each day. It is an open-hearted embrace of all that is in ourselves and in the world. – Mary Mrozowski \nThe Welcoming Prayer is an embodied practice for consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. It welcomes the Holy Spirit into the particular pain we experience\, whether physical\, emotional or mental. The Welcoming Prayer\, like Centering Prayer\, is designed to help us allow the Divine Therapist to remove the obstacles that keep God’s all-powerful grace from flowing in and through us and out into a world in desperate need. It provides a means for moving deeper into trust and intimacy with the living God that Jesus experienced. \nFebruary 13:\nPart I of the workshop will explore how The Welcoming Prayer addresses the human condition\, and will introduce the prayer and offer an opportunity to experience the prayer. \nFebruary 20:\nPart II will explore the Prayer in greater depth\, offer a second practice session\, and discuss how to bring the practice of The Welcoming Prayer into daily life. \nA regular practice of Centering Prayer is recommended as a prerequisite for this workshop. \nPresenter: Ten years ago\, Jack Dierks began practicing Centering Prayer and the Welcoming Prayer. In 2017 he completed training and is now a commissioned presenter of the Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop. Drawn to the Welcoming Prayer\, he has completed training and is eager to share it with others. Jack is a member of the Leadership Team of the Contemplative Outreach of Southeast Wisconsin chapter\, responsible for organizing and offering Introductory Workshops on Centering Prayer. Jack is a retired teacher. \nPlease register using the link below.

SUMMARY:Recovery Welcoming Prayer Workshop: Welcoming Prayer and Emotional Sobriety
DESCRIPTION:This workshop introduces participants to the Welcoming Prayer practice\, a method of consenting to the Higher Power’s presence in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations of daily life. \nWelcoming Prayer is a companion practice to Centering Prayer. Those in recovery have found both these practices to be great tools to deepen their spirituality and live in the present moment. It is similar to “pausing when we are upset” and detaching from the committee that drives our addictions and co-dependency. \nThis program will be offered online via the Zoom platform.\nInformation on how to access the program will be provided to participants in their registration confirmation email. \nPlease register using the link provided below.

SUMMARY:Thomas Keatings’ “Guidelines for Christian Life\, Growth\, and Transformation” Workshop via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Offered online via Zoom\, 1-4pm Central Time. \nThe title of this workshop\, “Guidelines for Christian Life\, Growth\, and Transformation” is also the title of the 12th and final chapter of Thomas Keatings’ classic primer of Centering Prayer\,  Open Mind\, Open Heart.  In these guidelines\, Thomas offers a conceptual spiritual and theological framework for this simple practice which has led and continues to lead many modern pilgrims to contemplative prayer.  In this workshop we will listen to and discuss these guidelines.  They might provide a conceptual introduction to Centering Prayer for those who are curious\, a support for those who are in the middle of the journey\, and reminder for long-time practitioners.  They are complementary to the practice of Centering Prayer\, which is the heart of the matter. \nThe Rev. Tom Ward is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel\, teaching Centering Prayer and leading retreats.

Deepening Our Relationship with God. \nThe remaining 5 meetings feature videos of Father Thomas Keating on Centering Prayer followed by discussion. \nAt the conclusion of the workshop\, participants are encouraged to find a group in the Meditation Chapel to join to continue their journey. \nRegister by sending an email to cthompson427@comcast.net. SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Dual-Track Intensive Post-Intensive Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This retreat is an opportunity for practitioners of Centering Prayer to deepen their contemplative journey in the contemporary world. It is a week-long experience of integrating contemplation and action through silence\, solitude and community. \nThe retreat offers two tracks. The intensive track is recommended for people who have completed the introductory workshop and who have a regular practice of Centering Prayer. The post-intensive track is for those people who have previously made an eight-day intensive retreat. The post-intensive offers increased silence and additional periods of Centering Prayer. Both the intensive and post-intensive Centering Prayer retreat provide daily experiences of silence\, solitude\, walking\, hiking\, yoga\, and spiritual companionship to foster an ever-deepening level of interior silence and awareness of the presence of God in everyday life. \nScholarship assistance is available for those with financial need. SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer is a form of Christian silent mediation where one lets go of thoughts during periods of prayer typically lasting 20 minutes. It is rooted in the self-emptying love that forms the heart of Jesus’ teaching and life. The effect on those who practice it is an ever-increasing awareness of God’s action and presence in the course of ordinary life. \nIn this introductory workshop led by Tom Ward\, participants will learn the method and principles of this prayer practice and have the opportunity to experience this ancient method in a quiet\, reflective atmosphere. \nWard is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel\, teaching Centering Prayer\, and leading retreats. \nFor more information go to www.stmaryssewanee.org

SUMMARY:Advent Centering Prayer All-Day Retreat
DESCRIPTION:St. Mary’s Sewanee invites you to spend time in prayerful silence and contemplation during this day-long Advent Centering Prayer retreat led by the Rev. Tom Ward and Rebecca Paluzzi. \nThis event is modeled on the rhythm of the multi-day retreats that St. Mary’s Sewanee has offered for more than 20 years. In preparing this new retreat format\, we have learned that technology is capable of bringing us together in ways that we could not have anticipated. During this day\, you are encouraged to fast from listening to the news and using electronic devices so that you can make holy space to observe silence with the group and on your own. \nThe retreat will include: \nThree periods of Centering Prayer;\n–Morning and Evening Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer;\n–Lectio Divina in a group setting; and\n–Generous breaks throughout the day for rest\, reflection\, and journaling. \nFor people new to Centering Prayer\, we encourage you to participate in the Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop to learn the basics of the practice. \nThis event takes place via Zoom; to participate\, you must have internet access and a computer or tablet with an internet connection.

SUMMARY:Lectio Divina Introductory Workshop for Advent
DESCRIPTION:The method of Lectio Divina\, to pray sacred scripture\, is introduced. Presenting a Christian tradition of prayer through reading\, reflecting\, responding and resting in the Word of God\, one’s relationship with God is nourished and deepened. Scripture appropriate for the Advent season will be utilized in this workshop. Both individual and group experiences will be provided. \nBoth live and Zoom options will be offered. \nPresented by: \nNancy Stimac\, a longtime contemplative prayer practitioner\, is a Centering Prayer facilitator and commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina for Contemplative Outreach and a member of the Contemplative Outreach National Service Team. She is a graduate of the Archdiocese of Hartford’s Catholic Bible School and Lay Ministry programs. She uses her gifts to serve the Catholic community of Windsor Locks as a prayer group facilitator\, Bible study leader\, RCIA teacher\, lector\, and evangelization team member. The human transformation we undergo in Centering Prayer is complex and multifaceted. We face common questions about how our practice is progressing and our psychological experience of releasing the emotional wounds of a lifetime. This presentation is intended to clarify the psychological process on our journey to transformation. \nMike Smoolca is an experienced contemplative group and workshop facilitator and a dedicated student of contemplative practices and wisdom spirituality. He is a Contemplative Outreach presenter and coordinator for Contemplative Outreach of CT and the Northern CT Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society. Mike is a practicing spiritual director and supervisor who received his certificate from Fairfield University. He has been an internship partner at the Spiritual Life Center in West Hartford\, CT.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer and Enneagram Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Centering Prayer and Enneagram” retreat is meant for anyone who wants to advance in their contemplative prayer practice with a deeper knowledge of who we are and why we do the things we do. Knowing who we are is the first step into growing in wisdom. Enneagram personality types will show us what motivates us and why some of us can focus\, learn\, pray\, and have a discipline of life better than others. \nThis online one-day retreat on zoom is a quick look into the Enneagrammic person in us. When we know what inspires us\, then it will be easier for us to pray and play. When we pray well\, we will play well\, meaning\, we will do whatever we do for living joyfully. \nSet aside one day and take this program from the comfort of your home. Each session is about 20 minutes long with a 10 minutes break in between. You can interact with Fr. Jos while you are attending just like being in a classroom. You don’t need to download anything or call anyone. Just simply be home in your PJs and have a cup of coffee and relax\, learn\, and grow. Register now and you will be provided with a secure link for the Zoom Retreat. \n09:30 am Introduction and Prayer\n10: 00 am Session 1\n10: 50 am break\n11: 00 am Session 2\n11: 50 am Centering Prayer Session\n12: 10 pm Lunch break\n01: 00 pm Session 3\n01: 50 pm break\n02: 00 pm Session 4\n02: 50 pm break\n03: 00 pm Session 5\n04: 00 pm Concluding Prayer \nRegistration Link: https://hobs.houseofblessings.org/hobsretreat/256/4th-centering-prayer-and-enneagram-retreat/

SUMMARY:Centering for Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:“The Centering for Wisdom™ Assessment (CWA) reveals where you tend to become distracted by attachments to the “false self.” In this workshop\, you will learn to apply your CWA results to cultivate deeper discernment in daily life. As you let go into non-dual awareness the distinctions between “action” and “contemplation” begin to fade away. You become open to the dynamic guidance of the Spirit’s Wisdom in all things – guided by God’s love “in my resting and my rising” (Psalm 139).” \nThis includes both a Live and Zoom option. \nTom Bushlack\, Ph.D.\, is Regional Director of Mission Integration with SSM Health in St. Louis\, MO\, where he lives with his wife Anna and their three children. He fell in love with the contemplative life as a student at St. John’s University and the College of St. Benedict (Collegeville\, MN). Tom is a commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer and the 12-Step Introductory workshops. He also serves as a Trustee with the Trust for the Meditation Process.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer as an 11-Step Practice for Persons in 12-Step Recovery Groups
DESCRIPTION:In 2001\, The 12 Step Outreach program of Contemplative Outreach was established to offer Centering Prayer to people in all 12 Step fellowships as an 11th Step prayer/meditation practice. We help individuals and groups establish contemplative prayer practices through workshops\, retreats and formation programs. Many people are already practicing Centering Prayer and find it to be transformative to their recovery. 12-Step Outreach offers retreats and introductory workshops that teach this method in more depth. \nCentering Prayer is an ancient meditation practice that has been used over the centuries\, but it is different from what we may think of as prayer. It is not the type of prayer we are used to\, like praying for something we want. It is simply moving deep within ourselves\, in silence\, saying nothing\, asking for nothing\, just being\, by letting go of our thoughts and allowing our Higher Power to be with us. The practice of Centering Prayer has parallels with other traditional practices and is simple and easy to do. \nSee the website link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:The Welcoming Prayer — An Introduction
DESCRIPTION:The Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. The purpose of the Welcoming Prayer is to deepen our relationship with God through consenting in the ordinary activities of our day. It helps to dismantle the emotional programs of the false-self system and to heal the wounds of a lifetime by addressing them where they are stored — in the body. This practice contributes to the process of transformation in Christ initiated in Centering Prayer. \nIn this introductory workshop\, led by the Rev. Tom Ward\, participants will learn the method and principles of this prayer practice and have the opportunity to experience this ancient method in a quiet\, reflective atmosphere. \nThis event takes place via Zoom; to participate\, you must have internet access and a computer or tablet with an internet connection.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer is a form of Christian silent mediation where one lets go of thoughts during periods of prayer typically lasting 20 to 30 minutes. \nIt is rooted in the self-emptying love that forms the heart of Jesus’ teaching and life. The effect on those who practice it is an ever-increasing awareness of God’s action and presence in the course of ordinary life. Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer; rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning on them. It is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. This method of prayer is a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with him.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Introductory Series (ONLINE)
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer Online Introductory Series \nFirst meeting Sunday September 27\, 2020\, 1-5 pm (Pacific time zone)\nFollow up meetings: Sundays October 4\, October 11\, & October 25\, 1-4 pm (Pacific time zone)\nCost: $85 for the series of four sessions (First Session only\, $40) \n“Be still and know that I am God.” \nAre you feeling a desire to deepen your prayer or to learn about the Christian contemplative path? \nThis online introduction to Centering Prayer includes instruction\, group practice\, and opportunity for discussion and questions. \nCentering Prayer is a method of prayer which prepares us to more fully receive the gift of God’s presence. This is traditionally called contemplative prayer. Contemplative prayer is the opening of mind and heart–our whole being–to God\, the Ultimate Mystery\, beyond thoughts\, words and emotions. Centering Prayer facilitates the movement from more active modes of prayer–verbal\, mental\, or affective prayer–into a receptive prayer of resting in God. It emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God. \n~~~ \nMarty Badgett has been practicing Centering Prayer for the past 25 years. He has facilitated introductory workshops\, retreats\, and days of prayer for many years. He is currently the Northwest Bay Area Contemplative Outreach coordinator. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, retired psychologist\, and adjunct staff member at Mercy Center\, primarily serving on the Centering Prayer team. She has a special interest in fostering contemplative practices so urgently needed at this time in our world. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director dedicated to fostering Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices that help us become aware of God’s ever-present love. As a scientist\, she sees in the physical world an expression of that love. \nTo register for this program\, please go to\nwww.mercy-center.org or call 650-340-7474.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Dual-Track Intensive Post-Intensive Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer Intensive Retreats\nIntensive Retreats provide an opportunity to immerse participants in the practice of Centering Prayer\, as taught by Contemplative Outreach.  Throughout the retreat experience one becomes more immersed in the conceptual background of the spiritual practice. \nThe Intensive Retreat includes up to three hours of Centering Prayer and a DVD about the spiritual journey each day. Soul friending with the staff can be scheduled. An established practice in daily centering prayer of at least 6 months is highly recommended. \nCentering Prayer Post Intensive Retreats\nPost Intensive Retreats provide an opportunity for even more intensive Centering Prayer\, solitude and silence in community.  The Post Intensive is much more silent\, in that no DVDs are shown\, and it includes up to five hours of Centering Prayer daily.  Most days are spent in "grand silence\," when you are asked not to speak or make eye contact. Most Post Intensive retreatants have been doing Centering Prayer for a year or more and have also experienced a previous Intensive Retreat\, so the silence can be very deep. \nBefore attending one of these retreats\, one should have an established daily practice of Centering Prayer for at least six months to a year.  It is assumed one has a foundation fairly well in place and the focus of the retreats is on the refinement of Centering Prayer practice itself. \nRetreat Leaders\nSusan Rush (Santa Fe\, NM) Susan has been serving in the field of health care throughout her adult life. She has been involved with Contemplative Outreach for about three decades. Susan was the founding coordinator of Contemplative Outreach of New Mexico\, and served on the governing board of CO\, Ltd for ten years. Currently she serves as a spiritual director and retreat facilitator. Susan is a presenter for the Living Flame program and the Servant Leadership Program. She serves on the Retreat Service team for Contemplative Outreach Ltd. She continues to serve us here in NM. The opportunity to serve in Contemplative Outreach communities has been a great gift in her life. \nDenise Tierney (Rio Rancho\, NM) Denise’s career in Rehabilitation/Mental Health services spanned 40 years. She facilitated At Home Retreats in NY prior to moving to NM. She was introduced to Centering Prayer in 1994. She is the current Coordinator of Contemplative Outreach NM\, a Commissioned Presenter for Centering Prayer and a Group facilitator.    \nSchedule and Cost\nThe retreat begins with dinner on Monday September 21\, 2020 and closes Sunday morning\, September 27\, 2020 by 11:00 a.m. The fee of $725 includes the retreat\, meals and a single room with centrally located shower/baths. There is a sink in each room. \nQueen bed with private bath – $815 (2 available)\n	Queen bed with shared bath – $770 (4 available) \nFor 2 folks in a Queen room there is the additional cost of meals for the second person. \nReservations will be taken in the order in which they are received. \nA $100.00 non-refundable deposit is required with registration. \nRegistration begins March 1\, 2020. Full payment is due by August 21\, 2020. \nDownload Registration Flyer

SUMMARY:Resting in God: An Invitation to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“In returning and rest\, you shall be saved;\nin quietness and in trust shall be your strength.”\n– Isaiah 30:15 \nSt. Gregory the Great wrote that contemplation is like “resting in God.” In Centering Prayer\, we’ve come to understand that “rest” is two-sided. First\, we can find comfort and peace in the Silence of the prayer but\, equally important\, “rest” also involves a surrender. Consenting to God’s Presence and action in our lives opens us up to the Sacred and allows Spirit to emerge in and through us in new and grace-filled ways. \nCome learn about and experience Centering Prayer. No experience is required. The day will be structured for those with little or no experience as well as those who want to renew or revitalize their Centering Prayer practice. \nThe schedule will include an introduction to the day’s theme\, an overview of the practice\, two 20-minute Centering Prayer sessions\, suggestions for daily practice\, and question and answer time. Lunch will be included.
