SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Dual-Track Intensive Post-Intensive Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This 8-day silent workshop\, led by Rev. Brad Smith\, is an opportunity for practitioners of Centering Prayer to deepen their contemplative journey in the contemporary world. It is a week-long experience integrating contemplation and action through silence\, solitude\, and community. \nThe retreat offers two tracks. The intensive track is recommended for people who have completed the introductory workshop and who have a regular practice of Centering Prayer. The post-intensive track is for those people who have previously made an eight-day intensive retreat. The post-intensive offers increased silence and additional periods of Centering Prayer. Both the intensive and post-intensive Centering Prayer retreat provide daily experiences of silence\, solitude\, walking\, hiking\, yoga\, and spiritual companionship to foster an ever-deepening level of interior silence and awareness of the presence of God in everyday life. \nScholarship assistance is available for those with financial need. The workshop covers the history\, psychology\, and theology and includes prayer sessions along with questions and answers.  Four conferences and two periods of Centering Prayer experiences are provided as follows: \n\nPrayer as Relationship: This section focuses on the fact that any form of prayer expresses our desire to be in relationship with God and how Centering Prayer deepens that relationship.\nThe Method of Centering Prayer: In this section the participants are taught the four guidelines of Centering Prayer. The first period of Centering Prayer occurs after this section.\nThoughts and Use of the Sacred Word: This section focuses on the fact that thoughts will inevitably occur during Centering Prayer and how one can effectively handle them. DESCRIPTION:Introductory Wisdom School – Here\, participants will be introduced to the Wisdom Way of Knowing\, through teaching and practice. \nIntroductory Wisdom School\n	April 23-26\, 2020\n	Rev. Bill Redfield \nWisdom describes a foundational lineage of spiritual knowledge that underlies all the world’s specific faith traditions and that outlines a manner of spiritual transformation. Participants will be introduced to the Wisdom Way of Knowing\, including three-centered Knowing\, Benedictine balanced living\, and Heart-centered living. The balance and the rhythm of our time together cultivate and deepen the seedbed of the heart into which the teachings can be sown. William Redfield is an Episcopal priest and licensed clinical social worker who has worked in private practice in central New York and Maine. DESCRIPTION:Be Still and Know:  A Contemplative\, Centering Prayer Weekend	facilitated by Anne Simpkinson and Claire Rusowicz \nThis weekend\, anchored in silence and the practice of Centering Prayer\, offers opportunities to rest in body and in God while enjoying the emerging spring beauty of Eastern Point Retreat House on the shore of Gloucester\, Massachusetts.  The schedule includes three Centering Prayer gatherings\, an overview of the practice\, evening prayer\, lectio divina and (weather permitting) a labyrinth and other outdoor contemplative walks. Remaining hours are unscheduled for private prayer and reflection. A Catholic liturgy will be offered Saturday before dinner.  No previous experience with Centering Prayer is necessary. \nThe fee of $382 includes overnight accommodations\, program and all meals\, beginning with dinner at 6:00 p.m. Friday night through lunch on Sunday. DESCRIPTION:This introductory workshop will explore the practices of the Welcoming Prayer and Centering Prayer. \nThe Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. The purpose of the Welcoming Prayer is to deepen our relationship with God through consenting in the ordinary activities of our day — “consent-on-the-go.” \nCentering Prayer is a form of Christian silent mediation where one lets go of thoughts during periods of prayer typically lasting 20 minutes. It is rooted in the self-emptying love that forms the heart of Jesus’ teaching and life. The effect on those who practice it is an ever-increasing awareness of God’s action and presence in the course of ordinary life. \nIn this introductory workshop led by the Rev. Tom Ward\, participants will learn the method and principles of these prayer practices and have the opportunity to experience them in a quiet\, reflective atmosphere. Box 129\n	Frenchville\, PA 16836 \n814.263.4855 – bethanyretreatcenter@gmail.com \nFacilitators: Therese Saulnier\, Sr. Ruth Ann Madera & Nancy Cord Baran \nWhat is Formation for Contemplative Outreach Service? \nThe purpose of Formation for Contemplative Outreach Service\, including Presenter’s Training\, is to provide an intensive Christian community experience in order to better understand and grasp the essentials of the Centering Prayer method and thus be able to share it appropriately with others. \nThe theory is “Good practitioners make good presenters\, facilitators\, and administrative helpers.” Because the group spends four days focusing on the Centering Prayer practice itself\, they better understand the essentials of Centering Prayer and the many nuances of the practice. This deeper understanding helps them to better recognize that contemplative service is service freely offered without expectation of return. \nThe schedule includes: \nOne and a half hours of Centering Prayer daily\n	Presentations by the staff of one conference of Session one of An Introduction to Centering Prayer each morning.\n	Participants present portions of the same material to a small group in the afternoons. \nCriteria for Register for: Formation for Contemplative Outreach Service \nParticipated in “An Introduction to Centering Prayer”\n	Established Centering Prayer practice – minimum of daily two twenty-minute periods ~ for three years.\n	Participated in an 8- or 10-day Centering Prayer Intensive Retreat\, either before attending Formation or within one year after attending Formation\, and before becoming fully commissioned. If intensive retreats are not geographically available (or) Participated in a 5 or 7 day Centering Prayer Intensive Retreat (or) Participated in four weekend silent Centering Prayer Retreats over previous 3 years\n	Studied Open Mind\, Open Heart by Thomas Keating. Preferably has also read/studied Invitation to Love\, Mystery of Christ\, and/or The Spiritual Journey materials by Thomas Keating (Tapes\, CDs\, DVDs or transcripts).\n	Has been recommended by a Chapter Coordinator or Contact Person\, or (in an underdeveloped chapter) by a commissioned presenter who is willing to mentor and recommend him/her for full commissioning after serving a minimum of one year as a presenter-in-training. \nTo register fill out the online reservation form. We will then email you an application form and reference form to fill out and send back for approval to attend the training. \nOffering: $625 per person – Room & Board\, Private Room\n	Includes Retreat Materials & Presenters Handbook\n	Deposit: $150 (nonrefundable) \nArrival: Sunday anytime after 3pm\, Supper at 5:30pm\n	Departure: Friday around 1pm. \n  \n
