The balance and the rhythm of our time together cultivate and deepen the seedbed of the heart into which the teachings can be sown. DESCRIPTION:11th Step Retreat \nMarch 20 – 22\, 2020 \nPresenters: Nancy Cord-Baran\, Carolyn Yankovitz & Michael Gidlewski \n11th Step – “Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understand Him\, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.” \nThis retreat is for people who participate in any 12-Step Recovery program to introduce or expand and deepen the experience of contemplative prayer as part of a daily 11th-Step practice. \nCentering Prayer is a simple method of prayer rooted in ancient Christian practice that opens us to God’s presence and divine healing. It is simply moving deep within ourselves\, in silence\, saying nothing\, asking for nothing\, just being and allowing our Higher Power to be with us. \nThe retreat will offer an environment of solitude and silence in community with time for reflection\, fellowship\, and a 12-Step Meeting. For those new to contemplative prayer\, the retreat is an Introductory Workshop on Centering Prayer in the context of 12-Step recovery. DESCRIPTION:Be Still and Know:  A Contemplative\, Centering Prayer Weekend	facilitated by Anne Simpkinson and Claire Rusowicz \nThis weekend\, anchored in silence and the practice of Centering Prayer\, offers opportunities to rest in body and in God while enjoying the emerging spring beauty of Eastern Point Retreat House on the shore of Gloucester\, Massachusetts.  The schedule includes three Centering Prayer gatherings\, an overview of the practice\, evening prayer\, lectio divina and (weather permitting) a labyrinth and other outdoor contemplative walks. Remaining hours are unscheduled for private prayer and reflection. A Catholic liturgy will be offered Saturday before dinner.  No previous experience with Centering Prayer is necessary. \nThe fee of $382 includes overnight accommodations\, program and all meals\, beginning with dinner at 6:00 p.m. Friday night through lunch on Sunday. (All meals on Saturday through Sunday breakfast will be silent.). Guests may arrive anytime from 3 p.m. on Friday. DESCRIPTION:This introductory workshop will explore the practices of the Welcoming Prayer and Centering Prayer. \nThe Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. The purpose of the Welcoming Prayer is to deepen our relationship with God through consenting in the ordinary activities of our day — “consent-on-the-go.” \nCentering Prayer is a form of Christian silent mediation where one lets go of thoughts during periods of prayer typically lasting 20 minutes. It is rooted in the self-emptying love that forms the heart of Jesus’ teaching and life. The effect on those who practice it is an ever-increasing awareness of God’s action and presence in the course of ordinary life. \nIn this introductory workshop led by the Rev. Tom Ward\, participants will learn the method and principles of these prayer practices and have the opportunity to experience them in a quiet\, reflective atmosphere. DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer Introductory Series \nSundays:  February 9\, 2020\, 1-5 pm; February 16\, March 1\, & March 8\, 1-4 pm \nCost:  $85 for the series of four sessions   (First Session only\, $40) \n“Be still and know that I am God.” \n Are you feeling a desire to deepen your prayer or to learn about the Christian contemplative path? \nCentering Prayer is a method of prayer which prepares us to more fully receive the gift of God’s presence.  This is traditionally called contemplative prayer.  Contemplative prayer is the opening of mind and heart – our whole being – to God\, the Ultimate Mystery\, beyond thoughts\, words and emotions.  Centering Prayer facilitates the movement from more active modes of prayer – verbal\, mental\, or affective prayer – into a receptive prayer of resting in God.  It emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God. \nThis introduction to Centering Prayer includes both instruction and group practice in a method that fosters contemplative prayer.     \n~~~ \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, scientist\, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center.  She is dedicated to fostering Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices that help us become aware of God's ever-present love. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, retired psychologist\, and adjunct staff member at Mercy Center\, primarily serving on the Centering Prayer team.  She has a special interest in fostering contemplative practices so urgently needed at this time in our world. \nMarty Badgett has been practicing Centering Prayer for the past 25 years. He has facilitated introductory workshops\, retreats\, and days of prayer for many years. DESCRIPTION:All are invited to a workshop on Lectio Divina on Saturday January 11th 2020. Location is St Gall’s Catholic Community\, 9 AM – 1 PM.  \nLectio Divina is an ancient contemplative way of praying the Scriptures.  Finding time each day to ponder the Scriptures\, to listen attentively with the ear of the heart and to allow the Word of God to speak to us\, leads us to discover the deeper meaning of Scripture and opens us to a deeper intimacy with God.  Reflection on the Word imprints the Word on one’s heart and slowly changes the way one perceives reality and how we respond to daily life.  It puts us in touch with the very ground of our being\, where we are one with God’s Spirit within us.  The transforming power of Lectio Divina frees us from our falsity and slowly draws us into our truth in the light of God’s Word.  Over time we are shaped into the word of God we were created to be. \nPlease reserve a place by registering with Therese (775) 901-3839 so that a handout will be available for you.  Coffee and tea will be provided\, however please bring something to share.  The workshop is provided free of charge. \n

It is a week-long experience of integrating contemplation and action through silence\, solitude and community. \nThe retreat offers two tracks. The Intensive Track is recommended for people who have completed the Introductory Workshop and who have a regular practice of Centering Prayer. The Post-Intensive Track is for those people who have previously made an Eight-Day Intensive Retreat. The Post-Intensive offers increased silence and additional periods of Centering Prayer. Both the Intensive and Post-Intensive Centering Prayer Retreat provide daily experiences of silence\, solitude\, walking\, hiking\, yoga\, and spiritual companionship to foster an ever-deepening level of interior silence and awareness of the presence of God in everyday life. \nScholarships are available. Participants will see that Centering Prayer is not simply a Christianized form of other meditation methods\, rather a method that has its own specific mechanism to transform consciousness from a narrow to broader perspectives of personhood. \nThis retreat will be held in silence. Each day will include wisdom teaching with Cynthia\, movement practice\, Contemplative Eucharist\, chanting\, and multiple Centering Prayer periods. The retreat is open to practitioners on all spiritual pathways\, the basis for our conceptual exploration and practical work will lie in centering prayer and the christian theological perspective which underlies it. All levels are welcome\, though an established centering prayer or meditation practice is helpful. For those who cannot attend the full week\, we welcome participants to join us for the weekend of November 8-10. \nAs part of the Christian contemplative experience\, Holy Family Retreat Center is providing workshops and retreats to learn more about Centering Prayer and develop a practice in advance of this retreat.
