SUMMARY:Centering Prayer\, Introductory Program
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer Introductory Series \nSundays:  February 9\, 2020\, 1-5 pm; February 16\, March 1\, & March 3\, 1-4 pm \nCost:  $85 for the series of four sessions (First Session only\, $40) \n“Be still and know that I am God.” \n Are you feeling a desire to deepen your prayer or to learn about the Christian contemplative path? \nCentering Prayer is a method of prayer which prepares us to more fully receive the gift of God’s presence.  This is traditionally called contemplative prayer.  Contemplative prayer is the opening of mind and heart – our whole being – to God\, the Ultimate Mystery\, beyond thoughts\, words and emotions.  Centering Prayer facilitates the movement from more active modes of prayer – verbal\, mental\, or affective prayer – into a receptive prayer of resting in God.  It emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God. \nThis introduction to Centering Prayer includes both instruction and group practice in a method that fosters contemplative prayer.     \n~~~ \nMarty Badgett has been practicing Centering Prayer for the past 25 years. He has facilitated introductory workshops\, retreats\, and days of prayer for many years. He is currently the Northwest Bay Area Contemplative Outreach coordinator. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, retired psychologist\, and adjunct staff member at Mercy Center\, primarily serving on the Centering Prayer team.  She has a special interest in fostering contemplative practices so urgently needed at this time in our world. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, scientist\, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center.  She is dedicated to fostering Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices that help us become aware of God's ever-present love.  \nTo register for this program\, please go to www.mercy-center.org or call 650-340-7474.

SUMMARY:Introductory Lectio Divina Workshop
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to a workshop on Lectio Divina on Saturday January 11th 2020. Location is St Gall’s Catholic Community\, 9 AM – 1 PM.  \nLectio Divina is an ancient contemplative way of praying the Scriptures.  Finding time each day to ponder the Scriptures\, to listen attentively with the ear of the heart and to allow the Word of God to speak to us\, leads us to discover the deeper meaning of Scripture and opens us to a deeper intimacy with God.  Reflection on the Word imprints the Word on one’s heart and slowly changes the way one perceives reality and how we respond to daily life.  It puts us in touch with the very ground of our being\, where we are one with God’s Spirit within us.  The transforming power of Lectio Divina frees us from our falsity and slowly draws us into our truth in the light of God’s Word.  Over time we are shaped into the word of God we were created to be. \nPlease reserve a place by registering with Therese (775) 901-3839 so that a handout will be available for you.  Coffee and tea will be provided\, however please bring something to share.  The workshop is provided free of charge. \n

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Dual-Track Intensive Post-Intensive Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This retreat is an opportunity for practitioners of Centering Prayer to deepen their contemplative journey in the contemporary world. It is a week-long experience of integrating contemplation and action through silence\, solitude and community. \nThe retreat offers two tracks. The Intensive Track is recommended for people who have completed the Introductory Workshop and who have a regular practice of Centering Prayer. The Post-Intensive Track is for those people who have previously made an Eight-Day Intensive Retreat. The Post-Intensive offers increased silence and additional periods of Centering Prayer. Both the Intensive and Post-Intensive Centering Prayer Retreat provide daily experiences of silence\, solitude\, walking\, hiking\, yoga\, and spiritual companionship to foster an ever-deepening level of interior silence and awareness of the presence of God in everyday life. \nScholarships are available. SUMMARY:Welcoming Prayer Introductory Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to the Welcoming Prayer Workshop \nThe Church of the Blessed Sacrament \n152 W. 71st St.\, Manhattan\, NY 10023 \nNovember 16th\n	9:30 am – 3:30 pm\n	9:00 am – Registration \nLed by Therese Saulnier of Contemplative Outreach \nThe Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. The purpose of the Welcoming Prayer is to deepen our relationship with God through consenting in the ordinary activities of our day — “consent-on-the-go.”  \nThe Welcoming Prayer helps to dismantle the emotional programs of the false-self system and to heal the wounds of a lifetime by addressing them where they are stored — in the body. It contributes to the process of transformation in Christ initiated in Centering Prayer. \nTherese Saulnier has been praying the Welcoming Prayer for over 25 years.  She learned the prayer from Mary Mrozowski\, the author of the Welcoming Prayer.  Therese has been praying Centering Prayer for over thirty years and teaching Centering Prayer and other contemplative prayer practices for over twenty-five years.  She is employed as a web developer for a Fortune 500 company.  Therese brings a practical perspective into how to live a contemplative life in the 21st century. \nPlease bring a bag lunch.  \nPlease RSVP in advance as space is limited.  Registration begins at 9 am so that we can begin promptly at 9:30. There is no registration fee. A suggested donation of $20 helps Contemplative Outreach sponsor future contemplative events and training. \nFor more information or to RSVP\, contact Mary Jebara at marytjebara@gmail.com or 973-714-1409.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Advanced Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the Mystical Heart of Christianity How Centering Prayer Can Deepen Your Experience of God\nContemplative Silent Retreat with Cynthia Bourgeault and other Contemplative Leaders\n \nReclaiming the Mystical Heart of Christianity\nHow Centering Prayer Can Deepen Your Experience of God\nContemplative Silent Retreat with Cynthia Bourgeault and other Contemplative Leaders \nNovember 8-14\, 2019 or November 8-10\, 2019 \nThis retreat provides a sacred opportunity for a large community of contemplatives to gather as a healing presence to the world and to one another. Individually you’ll deepen your Centering Prayer practice with Cynthia Bourgeault\, one of the great contemplative guides of our time. The retreat will unpack some of the key ideas in her highly acclaimed book The Heart of Centering Prayer: Nondual Christianity in Theory and Practice. Emphasis will be placed on the notion of “nondual personhood\,” as well as the method and foundations of the Centering Prayer practice. Participants will see that Centering Prayer is not simply a Christianized form of other meditation methods\, rather a method that has its own specific mechanism to transform consciousness from a narrow to broader perspectives of personhood. \nThis retreat will be held in silence. Each day will include wisdom teaching with Cynthia\, movement practice\, Contemplative Eucharist\, chanting\, and multiple Centering Prayer periods. The retreat is open to practitioners on all spiritual pathways\, the basis for our conceptual exploration and practical work will lie in centering prayer and the christian theological perspective which underlies it. All levels are welcome\, though an established centering prayer or meditation practice is helpful. For those who cannot attend the full week\, we welcome participants to join us for the weekend of November 8-10. \nAs part of the Christian contemplative experience\, Holy Family Retreat Center is providing workshops and retreats to learn more about Centering Prayer and develop a practice in advance of this retreat. It is highly recommended that all attendees new to Centering Prayer attend a Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop prior to this retreat; the more you bring\, the more you receive. \nPlease visit to learn more and to register: https://www.holyfamilyretreat.org/calendar/reclaiming-the-mystical-heart-of-christianity \nThe following teachers will be assisting and supporting Cynthia in her leadership of the retreat: \n\nRev. Matthew Wright\nRev. Bill Redfield\nFr. Michael Holleran\nFr. Bill Sheehan\nAllen Bourque\nMiranda Chapman\nDeborah Welsh

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Church of the Assumption\, 29 Jefferson Ave\, Emerson\, NJ \nAN INTRODUCTION TO CENTERING PRAYER \nSaturday\, November 2\, 2019 \n9:00 – 12:00 \n “When you pray\, go to your inner room\, close the door and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father\, who sees in secret\, will reward you.” MT (6:6) \nCentering Prayer is a method of silent prayer based on the wisdom saying of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. It prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer in which we receive God’s presence within us\, closer than breathing\, closer than thinking\, closer than consciousness itself. \nCentering Prayer is not meant to replace other types of prayer; rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning on them. Centering Prayer is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship – a movement beyond conversation\, to communion. \nJoin us in this introductory workshop to learn about – and experience — the practice of Centering Prayer. Appropriate for beginners and experienced practitioners wanting to refresh their practice. \nPresenter: Maureen Hanley\, Contemplative Outreach \nFor information\, contact: Cynthia Allen\, cynthiaallen6@gmail.com\, 201-417-3908 or see the flyer below under "additional information."

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Wisdom School Part A:    A Wisdom Way of Knowing \nAugust 14 – 18\, 2019\n	Begins Wednesday at 6:00pm with dinner.   \n	Concludes Sunday at 4:00pm \n“Wisdom Schools are a format for integral learning that’s based in some of the deepest roots for transformation and change in the Christian tradition. Wisdom schools are about awakening the yearning for a different kind of presence in the world and then developing the skills and the knowledge base to apply that\, to transform your own life and the life of people around you.”                                                                       \n	—Cynthia Bourgeault \nThis Introductory Wisdom School will set the foundation for the importance of wisdom schools in our era. Using Cynthia Bourgeault’s e-course teachings\, together we will explore our three centers of intelligence\, the Rule of St. Benedict\, and the Wisdom tradition as the Way of the Heart so that we might show up in the world as more conscious planetary servants. \nHeather\, Catherine\, and Joy will facilitate the integration of Cynthia’s transmissions and invite a ‘wisdom way of knowing’ through a daily rhythm of periods of video teaching from Cynthia\, Centering Prayer\, mindful work\, mindful movement\, sharing\, and contemplative free time. \nFacilitators: \nHeather Ruce\, M.A. is a spiritual director and meditation teacher. She leads monthly Wisdom Practice Circles desiring to help others wake up to a different kind of presence. She has been trained as a therapist and in a mindfulness and somatic based approach to trauma healing. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, clinical psychologist\, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center. She has a special interest in contemplative practices and the benefits of these practices in our individual and collective lives at this time in our world. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director dedicated to fostering Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices that help us become aware of God's ever-present love. As a scientist\, she sees in the physical world an expression of that love. \nPlease register at www.mercy-center.org or telephone 650-340-7474.
