SUMMARY:Present to Presence: A Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:God is always in and with us—closer to us than our own breath—but we are not always with God. Our harried\, over-scheduled\, noisy lives and patterns laid down in childhood prevent us from simply being with God. Centering Prayer is a way to re-member disparate parts of ourselves\, gather scattered energies\, and connect with the dynamic\, creative God that loves us more than we know. \nCentering Prayer is a way to immerse ourselves in silence and open to God’s presence within and all around us. By being present to Presence\, we open to a dynamic\, ever-creating God\, who heals\, transforms\, and loves us beyond measure. \nThis retreat\, intended for those who would like to explore Centering Prayer or re-ignite their practice\, will introduce the basics of Centering Prayer; offer opportunities to experience the prayer\, walking meditation\, and lectio divina; and explore ways to anchor a Centering Prayer practice in your life. There will also be time to walk the grounds\, read\, or rest. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Praying with Creation: Encountering God in a Theophanic Universe
DESCRIPTION:The Ancient Church understood the natural world as an expression of God’s creative love. On this day of enrichment\, we’ll explore a Trinitarian vision of Creation as ‘theophanic’\, or ‘God-revealing’. We’ll engage with prayer practices to enter into the love relationship between Creator and Creation\, including practices of Immanence\, Ascent Transcendence\, and Descent. Participants will learn resources for reimagining their relationship with the natural world\, and developing daily and weekly habits to increase their contact with God in Creation. \nThis event includes sessions of Centering Prayer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Practice Soul Friending\, Be a Soul Friend (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Practice Soul Friending\, Be a Soul Friend\nwith Cherry Haisten\nWednesday May 13\, 2026 via Zoom\n2-3pm Eastern Time (7pm UTC+1\, 1pm Central\, noon Mountain\, 11am Pacific)\nFree; suggested donation $25\nThis event will be recorded \nWhen it’s hard to know where we are on the spiritual journey\, hard to hear the still small voice\, hard to consent to God’s presence and action\, a companion—a soul friend—can help. In the Contemplative Outreach community and in small groups of Centering Prayer practitioners\, soul friending has always played a role. \nThomas Keating hoped that all Centering Prayer groups would evolve into soul friending groups in which participants could experience friendship as “a step toward the love and knowledge of God.” Aelred of Rievaulx called this kind of companioning “spiritual friendship.” In a developing relationship\, friendship may lead to intimacy\, to the deep knowledge of the Divine at the center of all creation. The practice of Centering Prayer opens us to a deeper awareness of the Divine through our repeated consent; in a group we can practice consenting to the presence and action of God in each other. The fruit of this practice may be an increased ability to see through the surface to the Christ within our companions and ultimately within each human being. \n“[T]he awareness of the deepest level in us is also an awareness of the deepest level in everyone else\,” wrote Thomas Keating in Open Mind\, Open Heart. “The insight into Christ dwelling in every other person enables one to express charity toward others . . . . Instead of seeing only someone’s personality\, race\, nationality\, gender\, status\, or characteristics (which you like or do not like)\, you see what is deepest—one’s union . . . with Christ” (103). \nDuring  this hour\,  we will explore a method for practicing soul friending\, the important roles of both speaker and listener in a group\, and the fruits that ripple out from our practice. There will also be a time for questions and comments. There is much to explore about soul friending beyond this brief time\, but may you leave inspired to practice soul friending on your own and to share the practice with companions. \n“Every particular thou is a glimpse through to the eternal Thou.”            \n– Martin Buber \nPlease register below. \nAbout Cherry Haisten \nCherry is a longtime presenter of workshops on Centering Prayer and Welcoming Prayer\, which she has regularly practiced for over three decades. She has led workshops and retreats in many places around the U.S. and in British Columbia. With her colleagues on the Welcoming Prayer Service Team\, she worked to compose materials for the Spirituality and Practice online Welcoming Prayer courses and contributes to the Welcoming Prayer team’s writing projects. \nAn English major and former writing instructor\, Cherry went back to school in middle age for a Master of Arts in Transforming Spirituality at Seattle University School of Theology and Ministry. At this Jesuit school\, her program included an emphasis on Ignatian direction and discernment. Combining this training with her study of the contemplative dimension of the Gospel and Benedictine spirituality has been a joy. Through Living Flame and other programs\, Cherry is delighted to pass on to other seekers something of what she has been blessed to receive. \nimage credit: mbolina/Getty Images \n\n\n \n \n 5/13/2026 Practice Soul Friending\, Be a Soul Friend\n a Zoom presentation with Cherry Haisten \n \n URLThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Address \n \n \n AfghanistanAlbaniaAlgeriaAmerican SamoaAndorraAngolaAnguillaAntarcticaAntigua and BarbudaArgentinaArmeniaArubaAustraliaAustriaAzerbaijanBahamasBahrainBangladeshBarbadosBelarusBelgiumBelizeBeninBermudaBhutanBoliviaBonaire\, Sint Eustatius and SabaBosnia and HerzegovinaBotswanaBouvet IslandBrazilBritish Indian Ocean TerritoryBrunei DarussalamBulgariaBurkina FasoBurundiCabo VerdeCambodiaCameroonCanadaCayman IslandsCentral African RepublicChadChileChinaChristmas IslandCocos IslandsColombiaComorosCongoCongo\, Democratic Republic of theCook IslandsCosta RicaCroatiaCubaCuraçaoCyprusCzechiaCôte d'IvoireDenmarkDjiboutiDominicaDominican RepublicEcuadorEgyptEl SalvadorEquatorial GuineaEritreaEstoniaEswatiniEthiopiaFalkland IslandsFaroe IslandsFijiFinlandFranceFrench GuianaFrench PolynesiaFrench Southern TerritoriesGabonGambiaGeorgiaGermanyGhanaGibraltarGreeceGreenlandGrenadaGuadeloupeGuamGuatemalaGuernseyGuineaGuinea-BissauGuyanaHaitiHeard Island and McDonald IslandsHoly SeeHondurasHong KongHungaryIcelandIndiaIndonesiaIranIraqIrelandIsle of ManIsraelItalyJamaicaJapanJerseyJordanKazakhstanKenyaKiribatiKorea\, Democratic People's Republic ofKorea\, Republic ofKuwaitKyrgyzstanLao People's Democratic RepublicLatviaLebanonLesothoLiberiaLibyaLiechtensteinLithuaniaLuxembourgMacaoMadagascarMalawiMalaysiaMaldivesMaliMaltaMarshall IslandsMartiniqueMauritaniaMauritiusMayotteMexicoMicronesiaMoldovaMonacoMongoliaMontenegroMontserratMoroccoMozambiqueMyanmarNamibiaNauruNepalNetherlandsNew CaledoniaNew ZealandNicaraguaNigerNigeriaNiueNorfolk IslandNorth MacedoniaNorthern Mariana IslandsNorwayOmanPakistanPalauPalestine\, State ofPanamaPapua New GuineaParaguayPeruPhilippinesPitcairnPolandPortugalPuerto RicoQatarRomaniaRussian FederationRwandaRéunionSaint BarthélemySaint Helena\, Ascension and Tristan da CunhaSaint Kitts and NevisSaint LuciaSaint MartinSaint Pierre and MiquelonSaint Vincent and the GrenadinesSamoaSan MarinoSao Tome and PrincipeSaudi ArabiaSenegalSerbiaSeychellesSierra LeoneSingaporeSint MaartenSlovakiaSloveniaSolomon IslandsSomaliaSouth AfricaSouth Georgia and the South Sandwich IslandsSouth SudanSpainSri LankaSudanSurinameSvalbard and Jan MayenSwedenSwitzerlandSyria Arab RepublicTaiwanTajikistanTanzania\, the United Republic ofThailandTimor-LesteTogoTokelauTongaTrinidad and TobagoTunisiaTurkmenistanTurks and Caicos IslandsTuvaluTürkiyeUS Minor Outlying IslandsUgandaUkraineUnited Arab EmiratesUnited KingdomUnited StatesUruguayUzbekistanVanuatuVenezuelaViet NamVirgin Islands\, BritishVirgin Islands\, U.S.Wallis and FutunaWestern SaharaYemenZambiaZimbabweÅland Islands\n Country\n \n \n Email*

SUMMARY:Sacred Circle Dance as a Form of Embodied Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“God is not remote from us; . . . on the contrary\, at every moment God awaits us in the activity\, the work to be done\, which every moment brings.”\n– Teilhard de Chardin\, Hymn of the Universe \nDuring this in-person half-day retreat we’ll introduce contemplative dances from the Sacred Circle Dance tradition. These simple movements\, done in a group setting\, can help us unite mind\, heart\, and body to deepen our prayer practice. Together we’ll explore how the combination of music and movement can be a companion to Centering Prayer\, in which we open our hearts to consent to God’s presence and action within us. \nPresented by Suzi Kindervatter\, former COMW team member and veteran teacher of Sacred Circle Dance\, and Linda Hall\, co-coordinator of COMW. \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:6-Day Contemplative Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Here\, in this unforeseen defencelessness\, is granted the contemplative experience… that the present moment\, just the way it is\, is already\, in its deepest actuality\, the fullness of union with God we seek.”\n– James Finley \nThrough the practice of Centering Prayer\, we open ourselves to the ongoing process of transformation—within ourselves and in our relationships with others and with all of Creation. \nAs we remain faithful to this practice\, a compassionate way of seeing and being begins to unfold. It creates space for the soul’s natural sense of awe and wonder to be rekindled\, allowing us to experience creation with renewed reverence. \nThis retreat offers a rhythm of deepening silence and spiritual nourishment\, including: \nTwo daily input sessions exploring themes of silence\, contemplation\, the Centering Prayer method\, and the transformative journey.\nMultiple guided Centering Prayer periods each day.\nOpportunities for soul companionship\, if desired.\nPersonal time for reflection\, journaling\, walking in nature\, and rest. \nIt is recommended that: Participants have attended at least one weekend retreat in silence and have a regular practice of Centering Prayer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

This “holy listening” approaches each person’s life and story as sacred. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register (scroll down for the desired event).

SUMMARY:Introduction to the Welcoming Prayer – via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:“Martha\, Martha\, you are worried and anxious about many things … but one thing is needful.”\n-Luke 10:42 \nThe Mary and Martha story is an example of the focus we can bring to everyday life activities. As the Welcoming Prayer 40-day practice booklet reminds us: “To assist this process\, we need complementary practices. Centering Prayer teaches us consenting in stillness; the Welcoming Prayer practice teaches us consenting in activity.” \n“The Welcoming Prayer practice is a way of letting go into the present moment in the ordinary routines of daily life. It is used when your needs for security\, affection and control are frustrated or gratified and cause emotional reactions. It is a way of turning everything over to God …” Thomas Keating\, Open Mind\, Open Heart \nThe presenters are part of the community of the Center for Contemplative Living in Denver CO. Over the years they have been blessed through the presence and teachings of Thomas Keating OCSO\, and Mary Mrozowski as well as many other spiritual leaders. \nWe hope to see you at our workshop. May you be open to including the Welcoming Prayer in your invitation to the Holy Spirit to extend the walls of your inner room to all of life. \nTime listed is Mountain Daylight Time (Denver\, Colorado)\nClick the website link below to register.

SUMMARY:5-Day Intensive Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This five-day Centering Prayer intensive retreat provides an opportunity to deepen the practice of Centering Prayer in an atmosphere of silence and community support. This retreat follows the Contemplative Outreach guidelines for an intensive retreat including five to six 30-minute Centering Prayer periods on most days. An established practice of Centering Prayer for at least six months is recommended but not pre-requisite to attend. \nThe retreat begins Monday with check-in from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and concludes the following Friday morning. The retreat fee of $550 includes a single room (with private bath) and meals. We are limiting the number of registrations to 25 including retreat leaders so each has their own room for solitude. The cost of this retreat has been lowered by $200 per participant due to a grant from the Contemplative Outreach Divine Economy Fund. The fund is dedicated to making Fr. Thomas Keating’s teachings in retreats accessible to Centering Prayer practitioners. \nPrince of Peace Benedictine Monastery encompasses 126 acres atop a hill approximately two miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Located in Oceanside\, California\, the monastery offers a serene haven for contemplation and spiritual growth. The grounds include walking paths\, Stations of the Cross\, and prayer chapel. \nThe monastery will be serving three meals a day but does not provide special meals. If you have dietary restrictions or preferences you may bring own food to supplement what is served. There is a refrigerator and microwave in the dining room. \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Living the Questions with Rainer Maria Rilke
DESCRIPTION:In one of his Sonnets to Orpheus\, Rilke invites us to “desire the change!” Transformation was one of his central themes. But how do we find the courage to do this? This retreat invites us to explore his invitation to “live the questions\,” and indeed to “live everything” as the path toward that end. We’ll explore his invitation to live into “the Open\,” and discover our lives as belonging to “the Whole.” Come to practice doing what Rilke called the “heart-work” of life. \nThis event includes sessions of Centering Prayer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:11th-Step Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The retreat will offer an environment of solitude and silence in community with time for reflection\, fellowship\, and 12-Step meetings. We will present an Introduction to Centering Prayer in the context of 12-Step recovery. \nThe vision of 12 Step Outreach is to pass on the gift of Centering Prayer and related Spiritual Practices to improve our conscious contact with a God of our understanding\, wherever there is a desire for deeper healing from anyone in 12-Step recovery. (View their website cp12stepoutreach.org) \nCentering Prayer is a simple method of prayer rooted in ancient Christian practice that opens us to God’s presence and divine healing. Some of the fruits you may experience with a regular practice of Centering Prayer include enrichment of one’s prayer life\, being able to ‘let go’ in the course of daily life\, a non-judgmental attitude toward others\, growth in self-knowledge\, the ability to live in the present moment\, and love and respect for others and all creation. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register (scroll down for the desire event).
