SUMMARY:Heartfulness: Transformation in Christ – via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Heartfulness is the sixth in a series of eight courses in the Spiritual Journey Series. In this series Fr. Thomas guides the listener toward an understanding of the contemplative dimension of the Gospel and its extraordinary implications and applications for personal freedom and global peace. Fr. Thomas calls this the journey of heartfulness\, and says that Centering Prayer might be thought of as heartfulness. Centering Prayer as contemplative prayer is a reflection on the mysteries of faith that has been digested and reflected upon and expressed in acts of love until it has simplified into a movement of the will that is becoming quasi-permanent – a way of occupying the mind and transferring it to the heart so that with practice it becomes more “heartfulness” than “mindfulness”. \nThis is a nine-week course officially starting on Thursday\, January 9 2025\, at 6:30 pm Mountain Time. \nA wide range of topics is covered in this course. The topics for each week are: \nWeek 1 – The Pursuit of Happiness\nWeek 2 – The Human Condition\nWeek 3 – Centering Prayer\nWeek 4 – Sin\nWeek 5 – Suffering\nWeek 6 – Redemption\nWeek 7 – Love and The Trinity\nWeek 8 – Divine Indwelling\nWeek 9 – Divine Transformation \nEach week\, we will begin with Centering Prayer. Your facilitators will provide an introduction to the topic for the week and we will watch the video (20 to 25 minutes) together. Then we will take a break and you will look over the questions to be discussed in the break-out groups. Discussion will take place in the break-out groups and we will gather together once again to close out the class. \nTime Listed are Mountain Time (Denver\, Colorado)\nClick the website link below to register. Scholarships are available.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking for a way to explore or deepen your relationship with God? \nIn our introductory workshop to Centering Prayer\, you will discover a centuries-old prayer method. Centering Prayer consists of simply sitting in silence with God—beyond thoughts\, words\, and emotions—and opening our mind\, heart and whole being to the Ultimate Mystery. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn the basics of Centering Prayer\, experience it in a guided setting\, and be able to ask questions and share experiences with the presenter and your fellow initiates. \nCentering Prayer is based on a Christian contemplative practice first described in The Cloud of Unknowing\, written in the latter half of the 14th Century. It calls one to abandon any consideration of God’s attributes and actions\, and to surrender to The Creator’s influence in our lives. \n It is a very personal prayer practice but is also practiced in groups. It opens one to God’s infinite love and power to heal\, and opens the door to other related prayer practices around forgiveness\, and dealing with painful situations and emotions. \nTime listed for the workshop are Mountain Time. \nClick on the link below to register.

DESCRIPTION:Learning to See in the Dark\nA 2-day Journey of Opening to Mystical Hope in a Collective Dark Night \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat if the darkness we face—alone and together—helps us uncover the hope already within us? \nIn a time when uncertainty\, division\, and collective weariness touch nearly every soul\, many of us find ourselves navigating both personal shadows and a world that feels increasingly dim. Yet the contemplative path reminds us that even in the darkest places\, something tender and resilient is already at work within us. \nThis year’s 5th Annual Centering Prayer Summit offers a sacred space to meet this moment with honesty and openness. Together we will explore how the dark night—both personal & collective—can become a place of awakening rather than despair\, a place where the deeper Light that has never stopped shining\, begins to make itself known. \nThrough shared stillness\, in-depth teaching\, and real-time interaction\, you’ll experience how Centering Prayer opens us to the quiet hope already alive within: a hope not dependent on circumstances\, but rooted in the Presence that holds us all. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information\, schedule and to register\, please see the link below.

SUMMARY:God in the Cosmos: How Hildegard of Bingen and Teilhard de Chardin Invite Us into the Sacred
DESCRIPTION:In order to expand our vision of God\, we explore the lives and spirituality of two extraordinary mystical scientists\, Hildegard of Bingen and Teilhard de Chardin. These mystics radically lived their experience of Divine Presence in and through creation. Born centuries apart\, they were mystics with a cosmic vision as well as scientists who seamlessly wove together their faith with the science of their time\, creating powerful visions of the universe. This day includes “Eco-Divina”\, a practice contemplating the deep interconnection of all being. \nThis event also includes sessions of Centering Prayer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Creating Self-Compassion Through Centering Prayer – via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Blair Ashby over six Thursday sessions \nA foundational gift of practicing Centering Prayer is that we also begin caring for our mental and emotional well-being during our prayer sits. Fortunately\, this is also one definition of self-compassion. Frequently\, we start noticing this gift with a simple thought like\, “my days feel better since I began Centering Prayer.” Centering Prayer creates self-compassion because it requires us to learn and repeat the process of awareness (being present)\, acceptance\, and letting go while consenting to the presence and action of the Divine within us. \nWhat is happening in our brains biologically as we repeat this process of awareness\, acceptance\, and letting go? How does this process impact our mental and emotional well-being? The good news is when we do Centering Prayer\, the work of the Spirit is teaching us self-compassion\, and this class will help us understand some of the transformations enacted in this process. Finally\, by aiding our developing awareness\, acceptance\, and letting go\, the course will also offer us additional skills to increase compassion toward ourselves and others. \nOver the six weeks\, we will explore the physical changes Centering Prayer brings about in our brains. Then\, we will explore the corresponding mental\, emotional\, and spiritual transformations resulting from those changes. Most importantly\, in every class\, we will practice those tools for creating self-compassion by discussing what we experience; we will learn from each other. Through this weekly repetition\, participants will habituate new ways of caring for themselves. As we practice\, our lives will feel more meaningful\, grounded\, and empowered to share ourselves in the world through God-given grace. This class will include session of Centering Prayer. \nAbout Blair Ashby \nIn 1994\, Contemplative Outreach International asked Blair to transfer the Christian Contemplative Heritage video series to audio cassettes. In the first fifteen minutes of the introductory tape\, Fr. Thomas said so much about God and reality that Blair’s head exploded and unknowingly germinated a desire to experience and eventually teach this God-created reality. In 1997\, Contemplative Outreach of Colorado asked Blair to record Fr. Thomas live\, and Blair has been recording the annual conferences and fall retreats ever since. Through personal relationships with Fr. Thomas Keating and Fr. Tony D’Souza (Anthony DeMello’s apprentice)\, and the dozens of spiritual teachers he has recorded\, Blair has gained deep contemplative insights. He has practiced Centering Prayer and self-compassion for the past twenty-eight years. \nThis is a six-week class\, offered on Thursday mornings\, October 9 – November 13\, 2025\nTimes listed are mountain time (Denver\, CO) \nClick the website link below to learn more and register. SUMMARY:5-Day Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This five-day Centering Prayer retreat will be directed by Fr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI. \nIn his book\, That God May be All in All\, Fr. Thomas Keating tells us that what mystics have always said\, scientists are now saying: That all that is comes from One Source. Father Bill would like to explore the meaning of this statement during our time together. May these days of silence\, presentation and Centering Prayer be an opportunity to explore and experience our One Source. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Virtual Silent Saturday with Fr. William Sheehan - via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Silent Saturday with Fr. William Sheehan\nExperience the Goodness of Our Life And Being through Our Consents to God\nSaturday February 21 8:30am-2:30pm Eastern Standard Time \nContemplative Outreach of Columbus is offering a Silent Saturday. A Silent Saturday provides a few hours that are set aside for Centering Prayer\, Lectio Divina\, spiritual teaching and reflection. “Come rest awhile with the Lord” this Lent. \nFr. Bill is a priest and member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He was present at the Lama retreat convened by Fr. Thomas Keating OCSO which founded Contemplative Outreach. He has led countless centering prayer workshops and retreats. \nExpect that the day will begin at 8:30am and last until 2:30pm. EST \nRegister by sending an email to Bob Gorman at rbrtgorman@protonmail.com and a zoom link will be sent to you a few days in advance. The event is free.

SUMMARY:Anam Cara: Thomas Merton\, and Pursuing Relationships That Enlighten Our Lives
DESCRIPTION:Though Thomas Merton craved the solitude of a hermitage and the silence in which “God shines there and is immediately found\,” his mysticism and writing life were deeply fed and influenced by special friendships that he developed both in person and through a prolific correspondence that connected him to writers and spiritual thinkers all over the world. Sophfronia Scott will discuss how we can find and nurture similar bonds today to the great benefit of our lives and work. \nThis event includes sessions of Centering Prayer. \nFor more information and to register\, please see the link below.

SUMMARY:Black Contemplative Prayer Virtual Summit
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Pastor Tia Norman\, friend of Contemplative Outreach and Centering Prayer facilitator. \nOn February 21-22 (9am-4pm/CST)\, the Black Contemplative Prayer Virtual Summit hosts its second annual gathering bringing together black spiritual teachers and thought leaders to explore prayer\, activism\, and community. \nIn the contemplative community\, diversity is essential. This summit addresses a critical question that arises in contemplative communities and Centering Prayer groups: “Where are the facilitators and practitioners of color?” \nBy providing a platform for Black contemplative speakers and teachers\, this one-of-a-kind summit will center Black voices\, offering the wider contemplative community language and tools that may help in our efforts to include\, invite\, and diversify the conversation on spiritual growth\, transformation\, and practice. \nWhether you join live or watch the replays later\, this summit is an opportunity you won’t want to miss. \nRegister is open to ALL: https://www.blackcontemplativesummit.com/?via=cythomas\n$125 USD
