SUMMARY:Sacred Circle Dance as a Companion to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:“God is not remote from us; . . . on the contrary\, at every moment God awaits us in the activity\, the work to be done\, which every moment brings.”\n-Teilhard de Chardin\, Hymn of the Universe \nDuring this in-person retreat\, we’ll introduce contemplative dances from the Sacred Circle Dance tradition. These simple movements\, done in a group setting\, help us unite mind\, heart\, and body to deepen our prayer practice. Together we’ll explore how the combination of music and movement can be a companion to Centering Prayer\, in which we open our hearts to consent to God’s presence and action within us. \nPresented by Suzi Kindervatter\, former COMW team member and veteran teacher of Sacred Circle Dance\, and Linda Hall\, co-coordinator of COMW. \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:The Garden Within Divine Therapy … a Path to Unity
DESCRIPTION:Fr. Matthew Flatley believes Thomas Keating’s most precious contribution to the Christian Contemplative heritage is his presentation of the spiritual journey using the language of contemporary psychology calling this form of prayer “Divine Therapy”. \nFr. Matthew recalls Fr Thomas once exclaiming to him: “There was so much literature written about our fallen natures\, and conversely\, about the great triumphs of the holy saints\, but I could not find much written about how the average Joe can make this journey.” \nFr. Matthew will lay out this path for anyone who can find their own discipline and passion within- to pursue it for themselves. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking for a way to explore or deepen your relationship with God? \nIn our introductory workshop to Centering Prayer\, you will discover a centuries-old prayer method. Centering Prayer consists of simply sitting in silence with God—beyond thoughts\, words\, and emotions—and opening our mind\, heart and whole being to the Ultimate Mystery. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn the basics of Centering Prayer\, experience it in a guided setting\, and be able to ask questions and share experiences with the presenter and your fellow initiates. \nCentering Prayer is based on a Christian contemplative practice first described in The Cloud of Unknowing\, written in the latter half of the 14th Century. It calls one to abandon any consideration of God’s attributes and actions\, and to surrender to The Creator’s influence in our lives. \n It is a very personal prayer practice but is also practiced in groups. It opens one to God’s infinite love and power to heal\, and opens the door to other related prayer practices around forgiveness\, and dealing with painful situations and emotions. \nTime listed for the workshop are Mountain Time. \nClick on the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer retreat weekend
DESCRIPTION:St. Benedict frequently unites silence and prayer in the work of seeking God. Centering Prayer is one of several prayer practices that flow out of Benedictine Life. Thomas Merton describes Centering Prayer as “a ‘return to the heart\,’ finding one’s deepest center\, awakening the profound depths of our being in the presence of God.” The goal is to be present to the Lord and aware of the divine action within you. \nThis introductory retreat will provide the background and fundamentals of Centering Prayer and teach how to develop a continuing practice. \nLeaders \nDonna Kreiensiecki is a Contemplative Outreach commissioned presenter. She has 20 years of experience offering Centering Prayer retreats and has practiced Centering Prayer for 30 years. Mary Bieter is a certified spiritual director trained at the Shalem Institute in Washington\, D.C. She was introduced to Centering Prayer twenty years ago and is a newly commissioned presenter with Contemplative Outreach. She has adopted a consistent daily practice of Centering Prayer in recent years and hopes she can help others discover the peace and clarity it can offer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Intro to Centering Prayer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you seek the still small voice of God? Do you seek a more intimate relationship with God? Come and find a way to deepen your relationship with God. \nCentering Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action within. It prepares us to receive God’s gift of contemplative prayer\, which is an opening of our hearts and minds to God beyond thoughts\, words\, and emotions. This prayer practice\, rooted in the Christian contemplative heritage\, helps us embrace the process of transformation in Christ. The Centering Prayer Introductory Program is designed to share the method of Centering Prayer and offer support in making it a part of daily life. The workshop includes themes of Prayer as Relationship\, The Method of Centering Prayer\, Thoughts and Use of the Sacred Word\, and Deepening Our Relationship with God\, along with time in Centering Prayer and the opportunity to submit questions. \nThose already practicing Centering Prayer and are looking for an in-person experience are welcome to both the Introductory session and to the ongoing sessions. \nPaula Whatley Matabane will be presenting the workshop. Paula is a commissioned presenter of contemplative prayer through Contemplative Outreach\, Inc. She is a practicing spiritual director affiliated with Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center in Atlanta\, ordained itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church\, and professor emerita of Howard University in Washington\, DC. Her memoir on her grandmother’s life in rural Southwest Georgia in the 1890s is soon to be published. The Atlanta native is a mother and not ashamed to describe herself as a resolute family historian-genealogist\, social activist\, cat lover\, and bicyclist. Her favorite scripture is Romans 11:29 “The gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.” \nScholarships are available. SUMMARY:Presence\, Prayer\, and Writing From the Heart: A Contemplative Writing Retreat
DESCRIPTION:We are never closer to our Creator than when we are creating. In writing\, we engage in God’s infinite creative impulse to birth the new\, the unexpected. Silence and stillness can assist that process by opening a portal to inner depths where we connect to ourselves\, to others\, to God\, and all of creation. \nAll of us have myriad stories to tell\, but some of us are compelled to share them through writing. Our stories can take many forms—memoir\, essay\, poem\, blog posts\, or journal entries—but the most compelling are the ones written from the heart\, those that touch and move us and sometimes transform both the writer and reader. Writing from the heart demands attentiveness\, honesty\, courage\, and a commitment to engage with a creative process that pulls us into the unknown\, where we are often surprised at what surfaces. It’s a journey of discovery. And what can help are presence and prayer. \nThis contemplative writing retreat will braid Centering Prayer sessions\, brief talks\, writing prompts\, and story sharing. There will also be time to walk the grounds\, read\, and rest. Come listen to the still small voice and find the stories that need to be voiced. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Unknowable – Surrendering Faithfully to Wonder (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:  \nPresented by Rick Klein \nMight our many societal\, cultural and world problems be viewed as a crises of faith? \nIn this thought-provoking presentation\, Rick Klein offers insight into an often unseen dilemma that lies at the heart of many of today’s dualistic sociopolitical issues: The decline of faith and the rise of beliefs. \nThrough an exploration of the historical roots and evolving history of humanity’s attempts to answer life’s ultimate questions of meaning and purpose\, Rick describes what happens when beliefs replace faith. Ask yourself: \nIs my “Big-picture-of-all-that-is Worldview” grounded in abundance or scarcity?\nIs it grounded in love or fear?\nIs it based on unknowable faith or the certainty of beliefs? \nRick builds on teachings from Karen Armstrong\, Richard Rohr\, Thomas Keating and others to demonstrate how the fundamental first step on the spiritual journey lies in re-discovering faith in a world full of competing and conflicting beliefs. In the process\, we’ll discover how compassion\, forgiveness and inclusion become practices of contemplation and meditation when done through the eyes of faith. \nJoin us as we explore how the ultimate knowing in life resides in the humble act of unknowing. Surrendering faithfully to the unknowable\, we are able see the abundant wonder of the universe and ourselves. This presentation will include a Centering Prayer session. \nThis presentation – Unknowable – is the final presentation in Rick’s Un-Trilogy series\, which includes Unfinished and Unchanging. Combined\, the three presentations are offered as an ongoing contemplative adventure into the realms of “faith\, hope and love.” If you missed the previous presentations\, you can still register for Unknowable as it is a unique presentation and stands on its own. If you’d like to see Unfinished and Unchanging\, you may order on our website. \nRecording Note: This event will be recorded. All registrants will receive a copy of the Zoom recording within two weeks of the event. \nTimes listed are Mountain Time\, Denver\, Colorado \nClick the website link below to learn more and register.
