SUMMARY:6-Day Contemplative Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“Here\, in this unforeseen defencelessness\, is granted the contemplative experience… that the present moment\, just the way it is\, is already\, in its deepest actuality\, the fullness of union with God we seek.”\n– James Finley \nThrough the practice of Centering Prayer\, we open ourselves to the ongoing process of transformation—within ourselves and in our relationships with others and with all of Creation. \nAs we remain faithful to this practice\, a compassionate way of seeing and being begins to unfold. It creates space for the soul’s natural sense of awe and wonder to be rekindled\, allowing us to experience creation with renewed reverence. \nThis retreat offers a rhythm of deepening silence and spiritual nourishment\, including: \nTwo daily input sessions exploring themes of silence\, contemplation\, the Centering Prayer method\, and the transformative journey.\nMultiple guided Centering Prayer periods each day.\nOpportunities for soul companionship\, if desired.\nPersonal time for reflection\, journaling\, walking in nature\, and rest. \nIt is recommended that: Participants have attended at least one weekend retreat in silence and have a regular practice of Centering Prayer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Directed Silent Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Spiritual direction or spiritual companionship is a process guided by the Holy Spirit in which two people enter into a unique conversation. The spiritual director or guide is trained to listen in a particular way to hear where God is present and acting in the life of another. This “holy listening” approaches each person’s life and story as sacred. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register (scroll down for the desired event).

SUMMARY:Introduction to the Welcoming Prayer – via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:“Martha\, Martha\, you are worried and anxious about many things … but one thing is needful.”\n-Luke 10:42 \nThe Mary and Martha story is an example of the focus we can bring to everyday life activities. As the Welcoming Prayer 40-day practice booklet reminds us: “To assist this process\, we need complementary practices. Centering Prayer teaches us consenting in stillness; the Welcoming Prayer practice teaches us consenting in activity.” \n“The Welcoming Prayer practice is a way of letting go into the present moment in the ordinary routines of daily life. It is used when your needs for security\, affection and control are frustrated or gratified and cause emotional reactions. It is a way of turning everything over to God …” Thomas Keating\, Open Mind\, Open Heart \nThe presenters are part of the community of the Center for Contemplative Living in Denver CO. Over the years they have been blessed through the presence and teachings of Thomas Keating OCSO\, and Mary Mrozowski as well as many other spiritual leaders. \nWe hope to see you at our workshop. May you be open to including the Welcoming Prayer in your invitation to the Holy Spirit to extend the walls of your inner room to all of life. \nTime listed is Mountain Daylight Time (Denver\, Colorado)\nClick the website link below to register.

SUMMARY:5-Day Intensive Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This five-day Centering Prayer intensive retreat provides an opportunity to deepen the practice of Centering Prayer in an atmosphere of silence and community support. This retreat follows the Contemplative Outreach guidelines for an intensive retreat including five to six 30-minute Centering Prayer periods on most days. An established practice of Centering Prayer for at least six months is recommended but not pre-requisite to attend. \nThe retreat begins Monday with check-in from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and concludes the following Friday morning. The retreat fee of $550 includes a single room (with private bath) and meals. We are limiting the number of registrations to 25 including retreat leaders so each has their own room for solitude. The cost of this retreat has been lowered by $200 per participant due to a grant from the Contemplative Outreach Divine Economy Fund. The fund is dedicated to making Fr. Thomas Keating’s teachings in retreats accessible to Centering Prayer practitioners. \nPrince of Peace Benedictine Monastery encompasses 126 acres atop a hill approximately two miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Located in Oceanside\, California\, the monastery offers a serene haven for contemplation and spiritual growth. The grounds include walking paths\, Stations of the Cross\, and prayer chapel. \nThe monastery will be serving three meals a day but does not provide special meals. If you have dietary restrictions or preferences you may bring own food to supplement what is served. There is a refrigerator and microwave in the dining room. \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Living the Questions with Rainer Maria Rilke
DESCRIPTION:In one of his Sonnets to Orpheus\, Rilke invites us to “desire the change!” Transformation was one of his central themes. But how do we find the courage to do this? This retreat invites us to explore his invitation to “live the questions\,” and indeed to “live everything” as the path toward that end. We’ll explore his invitation to live into “the Open\,” and discover our lives as belonging to “the Whole.” Come to practice doing what Rilke called the “heart-work” of life. \nThis event includes sessions of Centering Prayer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:11th-Step Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The retreat will offer an environment of solitude and silence in community with time for reflection\, fellowship\, and 12-Step meetings. We will present an Introduction to Centering Prayer in the context of 12-Step recovery. \nThe vision of 12 Step Outreach is to pass on the gift of Centering Prayer and related Spiritual Practices to improve our conscious contact with a God of our understanding\, wherever there is a desire for deeper healing from anyone in 12-Step recovery. (View their website cp12stepoutreach.org) \nCentering Prayer is a simple method of prayer rooted in ancient Christian practice that opens us to God’s presence and divine healing. Some of the fruits you may experience with a regular practice of Centering Prayer include enrichment of one’s prayer life\, being able to ‘let go’ in the course of daily life\, a non-judgmental attitude toward others\, growth in self-knowledge\, the ability to live in the present moment\, and love and respect for others and all creation. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register (scroll down for the desire event).

SUMMARY:Rabbi Jamie Arnold and Laura Berman: Psalms as Sources of Personal Solace\, Interfaith Solidarity\, Service and Joy - via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Our Spring Conference is a hybrid presentation conducted both in person at The Center for Contemplative Living in Denver\, CO and online via Zoom. Breakfast snacks and a light lunch will be provided for in-person participants. The conference is a community fund-raising event for The Center and helps fund program development\, provide scholarships\, fuel community outreach and maintain our spiritual home. We hope you can join us. \nDescription of Talk: \nThis year’s spring conference\, “Psalms as Sources of Personal Solace\, Interfaith Solidarity\, Service and Joy\,” features teachers and musicians\, Rabbi Jamie Arnold and Laura Berman\, sharing compelling insights about the psalms\, practical guidance for contemplative practice\, and meaningful small group interactions to foster our sense of community and belonging. We’ll enjoy gorgeous\, heartful\, prayerful soulful music and\, of course\, space for sacred silence. Rabbi Jamie and Laura are no strangers to The Center for Contemplative Living\, having led sessions (and a seder) in recent years that have been very well received. \nPresentation topics include: \nReclaiming Psalm Recitation as Spiritual Practice — An overview of the types of psalms and their uses: poetry\, peace (Saul)\, prophesy and mystical union.\nChristian Perspectives — Solitude & Silence\, Solidarity & Service.\nPsalm 23: Recitation as Meditation — A deep dive into “The Lord is my shepherd….”\nTwo sessions of Centering Prayer will be included in the conference. \nNote: We recognize the tremendous uncertainty and division in our country right now and want to suggest that The Psalms have been a gateway for healing and reconciliation throughout the ages and can be for us now. This presentation will take place in proximity to countrywide protests as well as oppression and violence in numerous places in the world. SUMMARY:The Welcoming Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Mary Dwyer \nAs a companion to Centering Prayer\, Welcoming Prayer focuses on the disturbances that beset our daily life and allows us freely to acknowledge and surrender their power to God. We begin to respond rather than automatically react to life on life’s terms. As the originator of Welcoming Prayer\, Mary Mrozowski\, said\, “To welcome and to let go is one of the most radically loving\, faith-filled gestures we can make in each moment of each day. It is an open-hearted embrace of all that is in ourselves and in the world.” During this half-day online retreat\, we will learn about the conceptual background and the method of The Welcoming Prayer\, and we will practice it in community. \nMeet Mary Dwyer \nAn early student of Fr. Thomas Keating\, Mary has been practicing Centering Prayer since the 1980s. In the early 1990s\, she lived at Chrysalis House\, a contemplative community in Warwick\, New York\, blessed by Fr. Keating\, with housemates who included Mary Mrozowski\, David Frenette and Cathy McCarthy. The community became an incubator of practice and programs in the early years of Contemplative Outreach’s growth. Mary calls this period her “inpatient” or “residential treatment time” that proved to her that a life of prayer\, consent\, and practice is real\, stable\, and deeply rewarding. \nMary has given years of service to Contemplative Outreach\, Ltd.\, including as a member of the Contemplative Outreach Faculty and Gift Committee\, coordinator for the Living Flame program\, and coordinator of the Miami Chapter. In January she stepped down as chairperson of the COL Governing Board. She continues to serve the Finance/Legal Team and the Welcoming Prayer Service Team. \nMary now divides her time between private practice as a licensed clinical social worker and leadership of retreats and workshops on behalf of Contemplative Outreach throughout the US and internationally. She lives with her husband in Erie\, PA. \nPlease see the link below to register.
