SUMMARY:4-Day Contemplative Retreat
DESCRIPTION:“In the stillness of Centering Prayer\, we learn to rest in God\, not as an idea\, but as a living presence that transforms us from within.”\n– Cynthia Bourgeault \nSharing silent prayer in the context of a retreat offers a profound experience of soul-to-soul connection — with fellow practitioners and with all living beings. \nThis 4-day retreat is designed to nourish the soul’s deep longing for intimacy with God\, inviting participants into a transformative journey through contemplation and the sacred practice of silence. \nHeld entirely in silence\, the retreat includes: \nTwo daily input sessions to deepen understanding of the Centering Prayer method and reflect on the contemplative path;\nMultiple periods of Centering Prayer each day;\nOpportunities for soul sharing with the guide (if desired);\nPersonal time for reflection and journaling. \nIt is recommended that participants have attended either a weekend Centering Prayer retreat or a one-day introductory workshop and maintain some level of ongoing practice. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Five-Day Intensive/Post-Intensive Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In Contemplative Outreach (CO) Centering Prayer retreats\, practitioners are given an opportunity to deepen their practice and relationship with God by joining with others in community for the experience of immersion in contemplative prayer apart from ordinary life. Retreats are a way to take one’s relationship with God and one’s practice deeper. They offer time and space away from the busyness and demands of daily life\, and allow the mind\, body\, and spirit to surrender to God’s presence and action within. \nThis retreat will offer two tracks — Intensive and Post-Intensive. The retreat will be held at the Benedictine Hospitality Center in Ferdinand\, Indiana. \nThe Benedictine Hospitality Center is operated by the Sisters of St. Benedict\, one of the largest Benedictine communities of women in the United States. Monastery Immaculate Conception was founded in 1867 by four young Benedictine sisters who came to Ferdinand to teach the children of area settlers. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Contemplative Retreat: Five- or Eight-Day Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer is a form of Christian silent meditation rooted in the self-emptying love that forms the heart of Jesus’ teaching and life. This retreat is an opportunity to deepen one’s contemplative journey in the contemporary world. The retreat offers two tracks: a five-day track\, recommended for individuals with an established and regular practice of Centering Prayer\, and an eight-day track\, intended for those who have maintained a regular practice of Centering Prayer and previously participated in an intensive retreat. The intensive and post-intensive tracks are available for the five-day; only the post-intensive track for the eight-day. The Intensive Retreat includes the human condition teachings of Fr. Thomas Keating. \nThe retreat has two options:\nFive-Day: October 26-30\, 2026\nEight-Day: October 26 – November 2\, 2026 \nThe retreat begins for all tracks on Monday\, October 26\, with check-in from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. A welcome session will follow at 4:15 PM and optional Vespers at 5:00 PM.\n The retreat concludes at 10:00 AM on the final day for both tracks. The five-day participants can stay for lunch on their day of departure with a reservation. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Opening to God’s Being and Becoming - via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:2-part Online Centering Prayer Retreat Series \nGod — the source of true joy and lasting peace — is not outside or at a distance from us. God is the very source and ground of our being\, closer than breath. \nAs the anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing writes\, “God is your being.” \nAcross two spacious online retreats\, we will explore Centering Prayer as a way of opening to both the Being and Becoming of God within us. First\, resting more deeply in Divine Presence\, and then allowing the Presence to take form in the way we live. \nThis is a 2-Part Retreat Series\, taking place Saturday October 24 & November 21st. You can register for just one of the retreats if you wish to via a link on the registration page. \nRetreat One: BEING: Exploring consenting to the Presence\, rooting into the Ground of Being within. \nRetreat two: BECOMING: Exploring consenting to God’s activity\, the unfolding of God’s life within us. \nJoin for one or both retreats.\nLed by Keith Kristich \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:The Good Eye Opens: An Introduction to Contemplative Photography (in-person and online)
DESCRIPTION:A Zen teacher observed that the moment we intellectualize what we see\, it is no longer what we saw. Contemplative photography invites a different way of seeing—direct\, fresh perception unfiltered by thought. From a still\, silent\, receptive mind\, mindful photographing opens a richer visual field beyond concepts\, revealing greater beauty\, clarity\, elegance\, and poignancy. This is not merely a photography workshop\, but a practice of cultivating nonconceptual awareness\, allowing the camera to express perceptions precisely as they arise in present-moment experience without distraction or judgment. \nThis program will be offered both in-person and online via Zoom. Information on how to access the program on Zoom will be sent to participants in advance. \nThis program will include morning and afternoon sessions of Centering Prayer. Times listed are in Eastern (New York) time.

SUMMARY:Four-Day Silent Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Contemplative Outreach of San Diego County is hosting a Fall Retreat at Prince of Peace Abbey in Oceanside\, California\, on October 22-25. Each year we look forward to this deep drink of silence and spaciousness that helps to refresh our ongoing prayer journey. The cost of the retreat\, $450\, includes a single room with a bathroom and all meals. Grand silence (including meals) starts on the second morning of the retreat. Scholarships are available if needed. Prerequisite: At least six months of daily Centering Prayer practice. \nTo sign up for this retreat\, email a letter of intention to cosdc.info@gmail.com. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Blair Ashby over six Monday evening sessions \nA foundational gift of practicing Centering Prayer is that we also begin caring for our mental and emotional well-being during our prayer sits. Fortunately\, this is also one definition of self-compassion. Frequently\, we start noticing this gift with a simple thought like\, “my days feel better since I began Centering Prayer.” Centering Prayer creates self-compassion because it requires us to learn and repeat the process of awareness (being present)\, acceptance\, and letting go while consenting to the presence and action of the Divine within us. \nWhat is happening in our brains biologically as we repeat this process of awareness\, acceptance\, and letting go? How does this process impact our mental and emotional well-being? The good news is when we do Centering Prayer\, the work of the Spirit is teaching us self-compassion\, and this class will help us understand some of the transformations enacted in this process. Finally\, by aiding our developing awareness\, acceptance\, and letting go\, the course will also offer us additional skills to increase compassion toward ourselves and others. \nOver the six weeks\, we will explore the physical changes Centering Prayer brings about in our brains. Then\, we will explore the corresponding mental\, emotional\, and spiritual transformations resulting from those changes. Most importantly\, in every class\, we will practice those tools for creating self-compassion by discussing what we experience; we will learn from each other. Through this weekly repetition\, participants will habituate new ways of caring for themselves. As we practice\, our lives will feel more meaningful\, grounded\, and empowered to share ourselves in the world through God-given grace. This class will include session of Centering Prayer. \nAbout Blair Ashby \nIn 1994\, Contemplative Outreach International asked Blair to transfer the Christian Contemplative Heritage video series to audio cassettes. In the first fifteen minutes of the introductory tape\, Fr. Thomas said so much about God and reality that Blair’s head exploded and unknowingly germinated a desire to experience and eventually teach this God-created reality. In 1997\, Contemplative Outreach of Colorado asked Blair to record Fr. Thomas live\, and Blair has been recording the annual conferences and fall retreats ever since. Through personal relationships with Fr. Thomas Keating and Fr. Tony D’Souza (Anthony DeMello’s apprentice)\, and the dozens of spiritual teachers he has recorded\, Blair has gained deep contemplative insights. He has practiced Centering Prayer and self-compassion for the past twenty-eight years. \nThis is a six-week class\, offered on Monday evenings\, October 13 – November 16\, 2026\nTimes listed are mountain time (Denver\, CO) \nClick the website link below to learn more and register. SUMMARY:The Practice of Letting Go: The Wisdom of Release in Contemplative Prayer - via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:The Practice of Letting Go: A 90-minute Mini-Retreat\nThe Wisdom of Release in Contemplative Prayer \nSo much of our inner life is shaped by what we hold onto — fixed identities\, familiar ways of thinking\, inherited beliefs\, and the stories we tell about who we are. \nContemplative practice invites us to loosen\, open\, and “let it go.” But what does that actually mean? How do we let go of a thought\, a belief\, or a way of seeing ourselves and the world? And how can that be so healing? \nJoin this gathering to explore the practice and wisdom of letting go: not erasing our thoughts or identities\, but loosening our identification with them so we can rest in the deeper Presence both beneath & within the activity of our busy minds. \n90 minutes\, online\nLed by Keith Kristich\, Closer Than Breath

SUMMARY:I Am - The Sacred Doorway into the Aramaic Heart of Jesus
DESCRIPTION:The seven “I am” statements in the Gospel of John are a window into who Jesus is and the heart of his teaching. From the perspective of Jesus’ native language of Aramaic\, these statements can also reveal who we are – and how we can enter more deeply into Divine Presence through the heart of Jesus’ teachings. Drawing on the work of Dr. Neil Douglas-Klotz\, Cynthia Bourgeault\, and others\, this weekend invites us to enter the I am sayings through this deeper lens. Together we’ll explore how these teachings open us to Presence\, identity\, and deep belonging in God and the heart of reality. Through guided reflection\, chant\, movement\, and Centering Prayer\, we’ll listen for the living resonance within each phrase. Our time will be nurturing and unhurried\, offering space for personal insight and gentle sharing. All are warmly welcomed to rest\, receive\, and rediscover these timeless words. \nAvondale Presbyterian Church\, 2821 Park Rd\, Charlotte NC 28203. \nMore information and registration: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hDCPDCg1sZPAKlE9MsDCeYEQg_2FoNfWkccusM5unCo/edit?tab=t.0

SUMMARY:Unknowable – Surrendering Faithfully to Wonder (via Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:  \nPresented by Rick Klein \nMight our many societal\, cultural and world problems be viewed as a crises of faith? \nIn this thought-provoking presentation\, Rick Klein offers insight into an often unseen dilemma that lies at the heart of many of today’s dualistic sociopolitical issues: The decline of faith and the rise of beliefs. \nThrough an exploration of the historical roots and evolving history of humanity’s attempts to answer life’s ultimate questions of meaning and purpose\, Rick describes what happens when beliefs replace faith. Ask yourself: \nIs my “Big-picture-of-all-that-is Worldview” grounded in abundance or scarcity?\nIs it grounded in love or fear?\nIs it based on unknowable faith or the certainty of beliefs? \nRick builds on teachings from Karen Armstrong\, Richard Rohr\, Thomas Keating and others to demonstrate how the fundamental first step on the spiritual journey lies in re-discovering faith in a world full of competing and conflicting beliefs. In the process\, we’ll discover how compassion\, forgiveness and inclusion become practices of contemplation and meditation when done through the eyes of faith. \nJoin us as we explore how the ultimate knowing in life resides in the humble act of unknowing. Surrendering faithfully to the unknowable\, we are able see the abundant wonder of the universe and ourselves. This presentation will include a Centering Prayer session. \nThis presentation – Unknowable – is the final presentation in Rick’s Un-Trilogy series\, which includes Unfinished and Unchanging. Combined\, the three presentations are offered as an ongoing contemplative adventure into the realms of “faith\, hope and love.” If you missed the previous presentations\, you can still register for Unknowable as it is a unique presentation and stands on its own. If you’d like to see Unfinished and Unchanging\, you may order on our website. \nRecording Note: This event will be recorded. All registrants will receive a copy of the Zoom recording within two weeks of the event. \nTimes listed are Mountain Time\, Denver\, Colorado \nClick the website link below to learn more and register. SUMMARY:Presence\, Prayer\, and Writing From the Heart: A Contemplative Writing Retreat
DESCRIPTION:We are never closer to our Creator than when we are creating. In writing\, we engage in God’s infinite creative impulse to birth the new\, the unexpected. Silence and stillness can assist that process by opening a portal to inner depths where we connect to ourselves\, to others\, to God\, and all of creation. \nAll of us have myriad stories to tell\, but some of us are compelled to share them through writing. Our stories can take many forms—memoir\, essay\, poem\, blog posts\, or journal entries—but the most compelling are the ones written from the heart\, those that touch and move us and sometimes transform both the writer and reader. Writing from the heart demands attentiveness\, honesty\, courage\, and a commitment to engage with a creative process that pulls us into the unknown\, where we are often surprised at what surfaces. It’s a journey of discovery. And what can help are presence and prayer. \nThis contemplative writing retreat will braid Centering Prayer sessions\, brief talks\, writing prompts\, and story sharing. There will also be time to walk the grounds\, read\, and rest. Come listen to the still small voice and find the stories that need to be voiced. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Intro to Centering Prayer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you seek the still small voice of God? Do you seek a more intimate relationship with God? Come and find a way to deepen your relationship with God. \nCentering Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action within. It prepares us to receive God’s gift of contemplative prayer\, which is an opening of our hearts and minds to God beyond thoughts\, words\, and emotions. This prayer practice\, rooted in the Christian contemplative heritage\, helps us embrace the process of transformation in Christ. The Centering Prayer Introductory Program is designed to share the method of Centering Prayer and offer support in making it a part of daily life. The workshop includes themes of Prayer as Relationship\, The Method of Centering Prayer\, Thoughts and Use of the Sacred Word\, and Deepening Our Relationship with God\, along with time in Centering Prayer and the opportunity to submit questions. \nThose already practicing Centering Prayer and are looking for an in-person experience are welcome to both the Introductory session and to the ongoing sessions. \nPaula Whatley Matabane will be presenting the workshop. Paula is a commissioned presenter of contemplative prayer through Contemplative Outreach\, Inc. She is a practicing spiritual director affiliated with Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center in Atlanta\, ordained itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church\, and professor emerita of Howard University in Washington\, DC. Her memoir on her grandmother’s life in rural Southwest Georgia in the 1890s is soon to be published. The Atlanta native is a mother and not ashamed to describe herself as a resolute family historian-genealogist\, social activist\, cat lover\, and bicyclist. Her favorite scripture is Romans 11:29 “The gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.” \nScholarships are available. SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer retreat weekend
DESCRIPTION:St. Benedict frequently unites silence and prayer in the work of seeking God. Centering Prayer is one of several prayer practices that flow out of Benedictine Life. Thomas Merton describes Centering Prayer as “a ‘return to the heart\,’ finding one’s deepest center\, awakening the profound depths of our being in the presence of God.” The goal is to be present to the Lord and aware of the divine action within you. \nThis introductory retreat will provide the background and fundamentals of Centering Prayer and teach how to develop a continuing practice. \nLeaders \nDonna Kreiensiecki is a Contemplative Outreach commissioned presenter. She has 20 years of experience offering Centering Prayer retreats and has practiced Centering Prayer for 30 years. Mary Bieter is a certified spiritual director trained at the Shalem Institute in Washington\, D.C. She was introduced to Centering Prayer twenty years ago and is a newly commissioned presenter with Contemplative Outreach. She has adopted a consistent daily practice of Centering Prayer in recent years and hopes she can help others discover the peace and clarity it can offer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.
