SUMMARY:Contemplative Outreach Birmingham 2026 Conference
DESCRIPTION:The conference will feature as speaker Rev. Ed Bacon. His conference presentation is entitled “Contemplation Changes Us; Let Me Count the Ways.”\nRev. He is a strong advocate and practitioner of Centering Prayer and has also participated in annual Ignatian 8-day retreats. Now in retirement\, Rev. SUMMARY:Flowing Oneness: The Contemplative Vision of Thomas Keating
DESCRIPTION:  \nIn this eagerly awaited Centering Prayer teaching retreat\, Centering Prayer master teachers David Frenette and Cynthia Bourgeault once again team up to explore the late teachings of Fr. Thomas Keating and what they have to offer our own continuing spiritual evolution today. \nAs Thomas more and more fully embraced his nondual awakening\, he began to write and see from a perspective rarely attained in the Christian mystical tradition\, significantly “growing” the Christian spiritual roadmap in the direction of his signature brand of “flowing oneness.” \nThrough teaching\, dialogue\, guided meditations — and mostly through the practice of Centering Prayer itself — David and Cynthia will jointly explore how he charts this new course —and more important\, how he has planted practical seeds to bring our practice of Centering Prayer to the next level. \nPracticing Centering Prayer in light of the God of unity consciousness grounds us\, more and more\, in a reality that cannot be shaken by the crises of separation\, disruption\, and disintegration we are living through. From greater oneness through Centering Prayer flows the subtlety of contemplative service: God in us serving God in others. \nCommuter option available. Please see the link below for more information and to register. \n

SUMMARY:Meeting God in the Silence: An Introduction to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:As the new year begins\, we invite you to join us to learn more about consenting to the presence of God through the practice of Centering Prayer. Let praying without words\, in deep silence and openness\, bring you to a more complete awareness of the Divine Indwelling. This introductory workshop will help new practitioners discern if Centering Prayer is the right practice for them and help them get started\, and experienced practitioners will benefit from a refresher and connection with other practitioners. \nAll of our introduction to centering prayer retreats follow the national Contemplative Outreach Ltd. approach\, combining short presentations\, two Centering Prayer practice sessions\, and ample time for questions and discussion. They are open to anyone\, whether you have a longtime Centering Prayer practice or have never tried this form of prayer. There’s enrichment and insight for everyone. \nPlease see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Learning and Opening to the Body’s Experience of Living in God

SUMMARY:Aging as a Spiritual Practice
DESCRIPTION:No doubt that aging is an emotional\, physical\, and psychological experience for many of us as we grow older. The journey is made more complex because our culture does not support us as we transition from the celebrated stage of youth to elderhood. It is\, therefore\, very important that we find another way—a more “excellent way” as St. Paul said—to traverse the path. \nThis retreat will offer spiritual practices from the disciplines of Centering Prayer and Buddhist meditation that will not only help us navigate the aging process but enable us to thrive in the process. \nMeet the Presenter\nThe Rev. Carlyle Gill has been an Episcopal priest for nearly 50 years and a practitioner of Centering Prayer for 25 years. She has led many Centering Prayer introductory retreats\, as well as longer retreats. \nTime listed is in Eastern Standard Time. Please see the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Black Contemplative Prayer Virtual Summit
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Pastor Tia Norman\, friend of Contemplative Outreach and Centering Prayer facilitator. \nOn February 21-22 (9am-4pm/CST)\, the Black Contemplative Prayer Virtual Summit hosts its second annual gathering bringing together black spiritual teachers and thought leaders to explore prayer\, activism\, and community. \nIn the contemplative community\, diversity is essential. SUMMARY:Anam Cara: Thomas Merton\, and Pursuing Relationships That Enlighten Our Lives
DESCRIPTION:Though Thomas Merton craved the solitude of a hermitage and the silence in which “God shines there and is immediately found\,” his mysticism and writing life were deeply fed and influenced by special friendships that he developed both in person and through a prolific correspondence that connected him to writers and spiritual thinkers all over the world. Sophfronia Scott will discuss how we can find and nurture similar bonds today to the great benefit of our lives and work. \nThis event includes sessions of Centering Prayer. \nFor more information and to register\, please see the link below.

SUMMARY:Virtual Silent Saturday with Fr. William Sheehan - via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Silent Saturday with Fr. William Sheehan\nExperience the Goodness of Our Life And Being through Our Consents to God\nSaturday February 21 8:30am-2:30pm Eastern Standard Time \nContemplative Outreach of Columbus is offering a Silent Saturday. A Silent Saturday provides a few hours that are set aside for Centering Prayer\, Lectio Divina\, spiritual teaching and reflection. “Come rest awhile with the Lord” this Lent. \nFr. Bill will be discussing the ongoing process of our integration in relation to Four Consents. These consents serve as a framework for understanding the spiritual journey and correspond to the stages of our life. The four consents include accepting the goodness of our being\, accepting the goodness of our creative energy while developing our talents\, experiencing God as we face and consent to the diminishment of aging\, and ultimately\, saying yes to our transformation. \nFr. Bill is a priest and member of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. He was present at the Lama retreat convened by Fr. Thomas Keating OCSO which founded Contemplative Outreach. He has led countless centering prayer workshops and retreats. \nExpect that the day will begin at 8:30am and last until 2:30pm. EST \nRegister by sending an email to Bob Gorman at rbrtgorman@protonmail.com and a zoom link will be sent to you a few days in advance. The event is free.

SUMMARY:5-Day Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This five-day Centering Prayer retreat will be directed by Fr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI. \nIn his book\, That God May be All in All\, Fr. Thomas Keating tells us that what mystics have always said\, scientists are now saying: That all that is comes from One Source. Father Bill would like to explore the meaning of this statement during our time together. May these days of silence\, presentation and Centering Prayer be an opportunity to explore and experience our One Source. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Creating Self-Compassion Through Centering Prayer – via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Blair Ashby over six Thursday sessions \nA foundational gift of practicing Centering Prayer is that we also begin caring for our mental and emotional well-being during our prayer sits. Fortunately\, this is also one definition of self-compassion. Frequently\, we start noticing this gift with a simple thought like\, “my days feel better since I began Centering Prayer.” Centering Prayer creates self-compassion because it requires us to learn and repeat the process of awareness (being present)\, acceptance\, and letting go while consenting to the presence and action of the Divine within us. \nWhat is happening in our brains biologically as we repeat this process of awareness\, acceptance\, and letting go? How does this process impact our mental and emotional well-being? The good news is when we do Centering Prayer\, the work of the Spirit is teaching us self-compassion\, and this class will help us understand some of the transformations enacted in this process. Finally\, by aiding our developing awareness\, acceptance\, and letting go\, the course will also offer us additional skills to increase compassion toward ourselves and others. \nOver the six weeks\, we will explore the physical changes Centering Prayer brings about in our brains. Then\, we will explore the corresponding mental\, emotional\, and spiritual transformations resulting from those changes. Most importantly\, in every class\, we will practice those tools for creating self-compassion by discussing what we experience; we will learn from each other. Through this weekly repetition\, participants will habituate new ways of caring for themselves. As we practice\, our lives will feel more meaningful\, grounded\, and empowered to share ourselves in the world through God-given grace. This class will include session of Centering Prayer. \nAbout Blair Ashby \nIn 1994\, Contemplative Outreach International asked Blair to transfer the Christian Contemplative Heritage video series to audio cassettes. In the first fifteen minutes of the introductory tape\, Fr. Thomas said so much about God and reality that Blair’s head exploded and unknowingly germinated a desire to experience and eventually teach this God-created reality. In 1997\, Contemplative Outreach of Colorado asked Blair to record Fr. Thomas live\, and Blair has been recording the annual conferences and fall retreats ever since. Through personal relationships with Fr. Thomas Keating and Fr. Tony D’Souza (Anthony DeMello’s apprentice)\, and the dozens of spiritual teachers he has recorded\, Blair has gained deep contemplative insights. He has practiced Centering Prayer and self-compassion for the past twenty-eight years. \nThis is a six-week class\, offered on Thursday mornings\, October 9 – November 13\, 2025\nTimes listed are mountain time (Denver\, CO) \nClick the website link below to learn more and register.
