SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Weekend Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Contemplative Discernment: Listening in Love	December 12-15\, 2019\n	Begins on Thursday evening\, ends after 12 noon lunch on Sunday \nContemplative Discernment is another dimension of the consent to God's presence and action in our lives. Discernment involves listening in love for the Holy Spirit's guidance and allowing our consent to deepen into surender to God's will. It moves us from our usual decision-making to a way of life. We will look specifically to Mary\, the mother of Jesus\, as a model of contemplative discernment.  \nThe retreat presupposes knowledge and practice of Centering Prayer. \nPlease see the flyer below under "additional information." \n

SUMMARY:Conference
DESCRIPTION:Love at the Heart of the Cosmos:  Living in Relational Wholeness	A conference with Ilia Delio\, Ursula King\, John F. Haught\, Kathleen Duffy and Cynthia Bourgeault\n	Commonwealth Chateau at SugarLoaf\n	Chestnut Hill College\, Philadelphia\, PA\n	December 6th – 8th\, 2019\n	Registration begins Friday\, December 6th\, at 5:00pm\n	Ends Sunday\, December 8th\, at 12:45pm \nDivine Love\, according to Teilhard de Chardin\, is the core energy of the cosmos. God’s love is unceasing\, dynamic\, and creative—pulsing in the heart of all things\, driving us ever forward to newness. Our wondrous human gift means that the future of the Earth is in our hands. But in these tumultuous times\, where we are we going? We need a new story of the whole to guide our way. \nEvolving toward wholeness begins with Teilhard’s rich awareness of the profound connection of God\, cosmos\, and humanity—what Catholic-Hindu theologian Raimon Panikkar called “Cosmotheandric Solidarity.” We live in an interconnected universe of deepening complexity\, consciousness\, and convergence. A new story of the whole transcends our differences and distances\, encouraging a planetary faith of the Earth that welcomes all God’s peoples and all God’s life as one intricately connected spiritual community. It is a story where religion and science\, faith and contemplation\, and nature and technology converge toward a new creation. \nJoin Ilia Delio and friends for the second annual Omega Center conference\, in collaboration with the Institute for Religion and Science at Chestnut Hill College\, as we seek to harness the energies of love and together renew our world. \nFor more information and to register\, go here: https://omegacenter.info/conference2019/overview/

SUMMARY:Advent Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Silent Advent Retreat – Embracing Oneness…Renewing our Contemplative Life\nThe contemplative journey is the ever increasing appreciation of who God is and also knowing that God is Unknowable.  Borrowing from the Psalms (Nan Merrill translation)\, scripture\, chant and sacred poetry\, we will explore the Spirit of Oneness as it forms our contemplative life. \nJourneying together we will explore how we can nod to consent.  Bow to surrender.  Release to receptivity and be blessed into effortlessness. \n\n"In oneness\, there is not more or less\, there is only oneness." \n\n                                                 ~Thomas Keating \n  \n\n"Forsake everything that is yours.  Undertake this\, and let it cost you everything you can afford.  There you will find true peace\, and nowhere else." \n\n                                                   ~Meister Eckhart\, Counsels #4 \n  \nIn this Advent weekend retreat we will be guided through the grace of Oneness by our spiritual friend and mentor\, Susan Rush. Embraced by silence with short periods of reflection led by Susan we will delve deeper into the experience of being contemplatives on a journey of Oneness. \nDownload Flyer for registration information. \n

SUMMARY:Welcoming Prayer Introductory Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to the Welcoming Prayer Workshop \nThe Church of the Blessed Sacrament \n152 W. 71st St.\, Manhattan\, NY 10023 \nNovember 16th\n	9:30 am – 3:30 pm\n	9:00 am – Registration \nLed by Therese Saulnier of Contemplative Outreach \nThe Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. The purpose of the Welcoming Prayer is to deepen our relationship with God through consenting in the ordinary activities of our day — “consent-on-the-go.”  \nThe Welcoming Prayer helps to dismantle the emotional programs of the false-self system and to heal the wounds of a lifetime by addressing them where they are stored — in the body. It contributes to the process of transformation in Christ initiated in Centering Prayer. \nTherese Saulnier has been praying the Welcoming Prayer for over 25 years.  She learned the prayer from Mary Mrozowski\, the author of the Welcoming Prayer.  Therese has been praying Centering Prayer for over thirty years and teaching Centering Prayer and other contemplative prayer practices for over twenty-five years.  She is employed as a web developer for a Fortune 500 company.  Therese brings a practical perspective into how to live a contemplative life in the 21st century. \nPlease bring a bag lunch.  \nPlease RSVP in advance as space is limited.  Registration begins at 9 am so that we can begin promptly at 9:30. There is no registration fee. A suggested donation of $20 helps Contemplative Outreach sponsor future contemplative events and training. \nFor more information or to RSVP\, contact Mary Jebara at marytjebara@gmail.com or 973-714-1409.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer is a form of Christian silent mediation where one lets go of thoughts during periods of prayer typically lasting 20 minutes. It is rooted in the self-emptying love that forms the heart of Jesus’ teaching and life. The effect on those who practice it is an ever-increasing awareness of God’s action and presence in the course of ordinary life. \nIn this introductory workshop led by Tom Ward\, participants will learn the method and principles of this prayer practice and have the opportunity to experience this ancient method in a quiet\, reflective atmosphere. \nThe Rev. Tom Ward is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel\, teaching Centering Prayer\, and leading retreats. \n9 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, Saturday\, November 16\, 2019 \n$60 fee includes lunch \nFor more information go to www.stmaryssewanee.org

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:May we all Be One: Centering Prayer and the Path of Oneness	November 15 – 17\, 2019\n	Begins Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.\n	$325/$275 Commuter \n“The glory that you have given me I have given them\, so that they may be one\, as we are one\, I in them and you in me\, that they may become completely one\, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me”. John 17.22-23 \nJesus’ deepest desire for his disciples was the transmission of his own personal experience of oneness with God and oneness with all things. He desires for us to experience and to live in this awareness of being One – a state which transcends all identifications in personality and tribe and finds rest in that profoundly silent place in our soul where God dwells. \n\n	What would be the implications if we consent to this Oneness? How does it change our identity\, our sense of who we are? How would it change our daily living – our conversations\, the organization of our day\, our focus at work\, our citizenship\, our relationships\, and our prayer life? \n\n	Join us for a weekend of silence\, Centering Prayer\, and a deepening consent to God’s presence and transforming action. SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Advanced Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the Mystical Heart of Christianity How Centering Prayer Can Deepen Your Experience of God\nContemplative Silent Retreat with Cynthia Bourgeault and other Contemplative Leaders\n \nReclaiming the Mystical Heart of Christianity\nHow Centering Prayer Can Deepen Your Experience of God\nContemplative Silent Retreat with Cynthia Bourgeault and other Contemplative Leaders \nNovember 8-14\, 2019 or November 8-10\, 2019 \nThis retreat provides a sacred opportunity for a large community of contemplatives to gather as a healing presence to the world and to one another. Individually you’ll deepen your Centering Prayer practice with Cynthia Bourgeault\, one of the great contemplative guides of our time. The retreat will unpack some of the key ideas in her highly acclaimed book The Heart of Centering Prayer: Nondual Christianity in Theory and Practice. Emphasis will be placed on the notion of “nondual personhood\,” as well as the method and foundations of the Centering Prayer practice. Participants will see that Centering Prayer is not simply a Christianized form of other meditation methods\, rather a method that has its own specific mechanism to transform consciousness from a narrow to broader perspectives of personhood. \nThis retreat will be held in silence. Each day will include wisdom teaching with Cynthia\, movement practice\, Contemplative Eucharist\, chanting\, and multiple Centering Prayer periods. The retreat is open to practitioners on all spiritual pathways\, the basis for our conceptual exploration and practical work will lie in centering prayer and the christian theological perspective which underlies it. All levels are welcome\, though an established centering prayer or meditation practice is helpful. For those who cannot attend the full week\, we welcome participants to join us for the weekend of November 8-10. \nAs part of the Christian contemplative experience\, Holy Family Retreat Center is providing workshops and retreats to learn more about Centering Prayer and develop a practice in advance of this retreat. It is highly recommended that all attendees new to Centering Prayer attend a Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop prior to this retreat; the more you bring\, the more you receive. \nPlease visit to learn more and to register: https://www.holyfamilyretreat.org/calendar/reclaiming-the-mystical-heart-of-christianity \nThe following teachers will be assisting and supporting Cynthia in her leadership of the retreat: \n\nRev. Matthew Wright\nRev. Bill Redfield\nFr. Michael Holleran\nFr. Bill Sheehan\nAllen Bourque\nMiranda Chapman\nDeborah Welsh

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Church of the Assumption\, 29 Jefferson Ave\, Emerson\, NJ \nAN INTRODUCTION TO CENTERING PRAYER \nSaturday\, November 2\, 2019 \n9:00 – 12:00 \n “When you pray\, go to your inner room\, close the door and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father\, who sees in secret\, will reward you.” MT (6:6) \nCentering Prayer is a method of silent prayer based on the wisdom saying of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. It prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer in which we receive God’s presence within us\, closer than breathing\, closer than thinking\, closer than consciousness itself. \nCentering Prayer is not meant to replace other types of prayer; rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning on them. Centering Prayer is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship – a movement beyond conversation\, to communion. \nJoin us in this introductory workshop to learn about – and experience — the practice of Centering Prayer. Appropriate for beginners and experienced practitioners wanting to refresh their practice. \nPresenter: Maureen Hanley\, Contemplative Outreach \nFor information\, contact: Cynthia Allen\, cynthiaallen6@gmail.com\, 201-417-3908 or see the flyer below under "additional information."

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Contemplative Living \nOctober 20–24\, 2019 (Sun. to Thurs.) \nPresenter: Mary Dwyer \nThis five-day retreat will explore how our contemplative practices shape our daily life. Contemplative Living is the call to bring the contemplative dimension of the Gospel into our every day\, ordinary lives filled with ordinary activities. \nHow do we lead ordinary lives with extraordinary love? \nWe will share in community extended periods of Centering Prayer\, silence\, and conferences exploring the Welcoming Prayer\, Forgiveness Process/Practice\, Lectio Divina\, and other prayer practices. Our hope is that each of us commits to a personal "rule of life" that supports and sustains our deepest desires. “… Centering Prayer is a life to be lived. Not just a method.” (Thomas Keating). \nPrior Centering Prayer experience is helpful. \nOffering: $275 per person (includes overnights & meals)\n	Deposit: $75 (nonrefundable) \nMary Dwyer is a long-time student of Fr. Thomas Keating and has been practicing Centering Prayer since the 1980s. In the early 1990’s\, she lived at Chrysalis House\, a contemplative live-in community experiment blessed by Fr. Thomas. Her housemates included Mary Mrozowski\, David Frenette and Cathy McCarthy. The community lived according to a rule of life\, and became an incubator of practice and programs in the early years of Contemplative Outreach’s growth. It was her experience at Chyrsalis House – what she refers to as her “inpatient” or “residential treatment time” – that proved to her that a life of prayer\, consent and practice is real\, stable and deeply rewarding. Mary Mrozowski taught her that a devoted life of prayer was the real work of life; what we did the rest of the time was just how we made a living. \nIn 2008 she met her beloved Juan through the Living Flame program. She moved to Miami\, FL in 2009 and they married. Juan recently retired and they moved back to Erie\, PA in July\, 2018. \nMary is currently serving as a member of the Gift Committee of Contemplative Outreach. She previously has served as Chairperson of the Contemplative Outreach\, Ltd. Governing Board; member of the Contemplative Outreach Faculty; Member of the Welcoming Prayer service team\, and Coordinator for the Living Flame program. Mary now devotes her time to giving retreats and workshops on behalf of Contemplative Outreach throughout the US and internationally.

SUMMARY:Day of Contemplative Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer Our Practice\, Our World \nSunday\, March 11\, 2018  1-4:30 p.m. \n$20  \n“The Christian is one who is connected through the heart to the whole of life\, attuned to the deeper intelligence of Nature and called forth irresistibly by the Spirit to creatively express one’s gifts in the evolution of self and world.”  – Ilia Delio \nPlease join us for an afternoon of Centering Prayer and community \nCentering Prayer is sometimes spoken of as the Divine Therapy. We usually reflect on this aspect of our practice in reference to our own spiritual journey. Today we continue our exploration of a wider vision of God’s healing action\, and consider how our daily practice may actually be a channel for the Divine Presence to bring healing to our world. \nThis is an afternoon for those familiar with Centering Prayer – beginners and long-time practitioners. We gather to deepen our consent to God’s presence and action in our world. (Instruction in Centering Prayer will not be offered.) \nOur time together will include 2 periods of Centering Prayer\, a short talk\, a video\, and conversation. \nMarty Badgett is an Oblate of the Camaldoli Benedictine Community. He has co-led extended Centering Prayer retreats for many years\, and hosted many one-day Contemplative Prayer days at Incarnation Monastery in Berkeley. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, retired psychologist\, and adjunct staff member at Mercy Center\, primarily serving on the Centering Prayer team.  She has a special interest in fostering contemplative practices so urgently needed at this time in our world. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, scientist\, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center.  She is dedicated to fostering Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices that help us become aware of God's ever-present love.  \nTo register for this program\, please go to www.mercy-center.org or call 650-340-7474.
