SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer and the Heart of Mysticism \nPresenter: Therese M. Saulnier \nFranciscan Spiritual Center \nSeptember 13-15\, 2019 \nStarts Friday at 7 PM and ends Sunday at 11 AM \n  \nThe pursuit of spirituality can evolve our consciousness\, expanding our understanding of reality and opening us to see things differently – beyond our usual perception of reality cloaked by perceptions and beliefs.  Knowledge of mysticism is a doorway to this evolution of our consciousness. .Karl Rahner\, a 20th century theologian\, wrote: “In the days ahead\, you will either be a mystic (one who has experienced God for real) or nothing at all.”  In this retreat\, we’ll explore the nature of mysticism\, mystical writers such as St. John of the Cross\, and the impact of mysticism in deepening our relationship with God and transforming our everyday lives.   Centering Prayer experience suggested.  \nTherese Saulnier has been praying Center Prayer for 30 years and teaching Centering Prayer and other contemplative prayer practices for over 25 years. She is a faculty member of the Contemplative Outreach\, Ltd.\, an international organization committed to renewing the contemplative dimension of the Gospel. Therese holds an MA degree in theology\, with a concentration in Spirituality\, from Fordham University.  As a web developer for a Fortune 100 company she offers a practical perspective on living a contemplative life in our contemporary culture. \nCommuter Fee: $140 \nResident Fee: $190 \n(When registering please choose an option of Resident or Commuter.  Resident means you will be staying overnight and need a bed and commuter means you will not be staying overnight and will not need a bed.)  For more information\, please see the flyer below under "additional information." \nFranciscan Spiritual Center \n609 S. SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Weekend Retreat
DESCRIPTION:A Weekend Centering Prayer Retreat for Women and Men	with Fr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI\n	September 6 – 8\, 2019\n	Friday\, 5:00 p.m. – Sunday\, 1:30 p.m. \nFr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI has been deeply committed to Contemplative Outreach since it was founded in 1983 by Fr. Thomas Keating\, OCSO.  For more than three decades he has led centering prayer workshops and retreats throughout the United States and abroad. He has a rich background as a pastor\, director of ministry to priests\, novice director\, director of formation\, provincial\, and director of the Oblate House of Theology. Among teachers of the faith journey and presence of the divine indwelling\, few deserve the title “master teacher” as does Fr. Bill. He offers a weekend of rest and renewal\, through spiritual enrichment  and the communal sharing of silence with the Divine.  Father Bill lives in the St. Eugene House Oblate Residence in Lowell\, Massachusetts. \nThe method of Centering Prayer is both a relationship with God and a practice to foster that relationship. \nThe Gospel of Matthew expresses God’s desire for our happiness with Jesus’ call for us to go into our inner room\, close the door and pray to our Father in secret  Yet\, as Fr. Bill reminds us\, the greatest obstacle to our spiritual journey is to pray as if we are separated from God. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is this intimacy and tenderness that God offers us\, as St. Augustine declared\, “You have made us for yourself\, O Lord\, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” \nThe human ego longs for a compassionate gaze. With the practice of silence\, we can become gradually loosened from the exaggerated ego demands that distract us from the trust and faith in the Divine Indwelling. We are all one with God—it is our common ground\, our interconnectedness with each other and all of creation. God is love and when we pray\, we open ourselves to feel that love. Join us as we gather for a weekend free of distractions to enjoy the gift of silent presence with God who made you and loves you beyond imagination. \nMore details available from philstone@cox.net. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Post-Intensive Retreat
DESCRIPTION:"THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL": The Night of Sense\, The Night of Spirit \n “How gently and lovingly You wake in my heart\, \nWhere in secret You dwell alone; \nAnd in your sweet breathing\, filled with good and glory\, \nHow tenderly You swell my heart with love……. John of The Cross \nThe Dark Night is a metaphor and often misunderstood.  It simply means that the human mind is unable to grasp the transformative work that God is effecting in the deepest recesses of the soul.  It is like a ‘darkness’ to our human understanding.  In this weekend retreat\, we will explore how St. John of The Cross charts the fundamental journey of the human spirit where no words satisfy.  The Night of Sense and Night of Spirit proves an inner landscape of the soul\, a geography of the soul that presents the human experience of being wounded and simultaneously\, the experience of being healed by the divine physician.  The ’dark nights’ are an amazing story of grace and human development as told in these images.  This journey provides inspired insight into our contemporary contemplative journey.  The weekend will allow time for presentation\, small group process\, periods of silence and Centering Prayer in contemplative community.  Some knowledge of Centering Prayer will be helpful but not required. \nPresenter: Susan Komis.  \nFri. Aug. 16 (Arrival: 4:30 pm; Soup Supper: 5:30 pm; Retreat opening: 7 pm)–Sun. SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Wisdom School Part A:    A Wisdom Way of Knowing \nAugust 14 – 18\, 2019\n	Begins Wednesday at 6:00pm with dinner.   \n	Concludes Sunday at 4:00pm \n“Wisdom Schools are a format for integral learning that’s based in some of the deepest roots for transformation and change in the Christian tradition. Wisdom schools are about awakening the yearning for a different kind of presence in the world and then developing the skills and the knowledge base to apply that\, to transform your own life and the life of people around you.”                                                                       \n	—Cynthia Bourgeault \nThis Introductory Wisdom School will set the foundation for the importance of wisdom schools in our era. Using Cynthia Bourgeault’s e-course teachings\, together we will explore our three centers of intelligence\, the Rule of St. Benedict\, and the Wisdom tradition as the Way of the Heart so that we might show up in the world as more conscious planetary servants. \nHeather\, Catherine\, and Joy will facilitate the integration of Cynthia’s transmissions and invite a ‘wisdom way of knowing’ through a daily rhythm of periods of video teaching from Cynthia\, Centering Prayer\, mindful work\, mindful movement\, sharing\, and contemplative free time. \nFacilitators: \nHeather Ruce\, M.A. is a spiritual director and meditation teacher. She leads monthly Wisdom Practice Circles desiring to help others wake up to a different kind of presence. She has been trained as a therapist and in a mindfulness and somatic based approach to trauma healing. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, clinical psychologist\, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center. She has a special interest in contemplative practices and the benefits of these practices in our individual and collective lives at this time in our world. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director dedicated to fostering Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices that help us become aware of God's ever-present love. As a scientist\, she sees in the physical world an expression of that love. \nPlease register at www.mercy-center.org or telephone 650-340-7474.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Dual-Track Intensive Post-Intensive Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This retreat is an opportunity for practitioners of Centering Prayer to deepen their contemplative journey in the contemporary world. It is a week-long experience of integrating contemplation and action through silence\, solitude and community. \nThe retreat offers two tracks. The Intensive Track is recommended for people who have completed the Introductory Workshop and who have a regular practice of Centering Prayer. Both the Intensive and Post-Intensive Centering Prayer Retreat provide daily experiences of silence\, solitude\, walking\, hiking\, yoga\, and spiritual companionship to foster an ever-deepening level of interior silence and awareness of the presence of God in everyday life. \nThe Rev. Tom Ward is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel\, teaching Centering Prayer and leading retreats. \nThe Anna Guest House is currently full for this event; rooms are available in St. Mary's Hall. SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, July 19 to Sunday\, July 21\, 2019 Centering Prayer Retreat \nDirected by Cathy Hightower\, Mark Dannenfelser and Maggie Winfrey  \nDelve into a deeply spiritual experience growing closer to God on a two-night Centering Prayer retreat. Transform and deepen your relationship with God through Centering Prayer. Renew your mind by absorbing the wisdom of mystical masters. Open and refresh your center with gentle yoga. Discover the healing benefits of mindful walking on beautiful natural trails.  Centering Prayer is a method that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplation by cultivating interior silence and purity of heart. Centering Prayer was distilled from the profound and ancient teachings of the Christian contemplative heritage first evident in the early Desert Fathers and Mothers. The method\, as taught by Trappist monk\, Fr. Thomas Keating\, O.C.S.O.\, uses silence and attention to encourage the development of alert receptivity of God’s presence and action within.  An atmosphere of silence will be maintained during the retreat.  \nPlease see the flyer below under "Additional Information." \nTo register\, go to \nhttps://www3.thedatabank.com/dpg/473/donate.asp?formid=Enrichment&c=587664
