SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Post-Intensive Retreat
DESCRIPTION:"THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL": The Night of Sense\, The Night of Spirit \n “How gently and lovingly You wake in my heart\, \nWhere in secret You dwell alone; \nAnd in your sweet breathing\, filled with good and glory\, \nHow tenderly You swell my heart with love……. John of The Cross \nThe Dark Night is a metaphor and often misunderstood.  It simply means that the human mind is unable to grasp the transformative work that God is effecting in the deepest recesses of the soul.  It is like a ‘darkness’ to our human understanding.  In this weekend retreat\, we will explore how St. John of The Cross charts the fundamental journey of the human spirit where no words satisfy.  The Night of Sense and Night of Spirit proves an inner landscape of the soul\, a geography of the soul that presents the human experience of being wounded and simultaneously\, the experience of being healed by the divine physician.  The ’dark nights’ are an amazing story of grace and human development as told in these images.  This journey provides inspired insight into our contemporary contemplative journey.  The weekend will allow time for presentation\, small group process\, periods of silence and Centering Prayer in contemplative community.  Some knowledge of Centering Prayer will be helpful but not required. \nPresenter: Susan Komis.  \nFri. Aug. 16 (Arrival: 4:30 pm; Soup Supper: 5:30 pm; Retreat opening: 7 pm)–Sun. Aug.18\, 1 pm; \nFee: Register and pay in full by July 16: $245.  Registrations and payments after July 16: $260. \nTHE CENTERING PRAYER POST INTENSIVE RETREAT is an opportunity for more extensive periods of Centering Prayer to deepen the personal practice of contemplative prayer.  The post-intensive retreat focuses more on complete silence for the duration of the retreat with no educational component presented.  All meals are silent with no conversation. A minimum of one-year regular practice of Centering Prayer is a prerequisite to attend a post-intensive retreat.  Facilitator:  Susan Komis. Sun. Aug. 18 (Arrival: 6-6:45 pm; retreat opening: 7 pm)–Fri. Aug. 23\, 4 pm; \nFee: Register and pay in full by July 18: $500. Registrations and payments after July 18: $515. \nCOMBINE THE TWO RETREATS:  Fri. Aug. 16 (Arrival: 4:30 pm; Soup Supper: 5:30 pm; Retreat opening: 7 pm)–Fri. Aug. 23\, 4 pm; Fee: Register and pay in full by July 16: $690.  Registrations and payments after July 16; $710.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Introductory Wisdom School Part A:    A Wisdom Way of Knowing \nAugust 14 – 18\, 2019\n	Begins Wednesday at 6:00pm with dinner.   \n	Concludes Sunday at 4:00pm \n“Wisdom Schools are a format for integral learning that’s based in some of the deepest roots for transformation and change in the Christian tradition. Wisdom schools are about awakening the yearning for a different kind of presence in the world and then developing the skills and the knowledge base to apply that\, to transform your own life and the life of people around you.”                                                                       \n	—Cynthia Bourgeault \nThis Introductory Wisdom School will set the foundation for the importance of wisdom schools in our era. Using Cynthia Bourgeault’s e-course teachings\, together we will explore our three centers of intelligence\, the Rule of St. Benedict\, and the Wisdom tradition as the Way of the Heart so that we might show up in the world as more conscious planetary servants. \nHeather\, Catherine\, and Joy will facilitate the integration of Cynthia’s transmissions and invite a ‘wisdom way of knowing’ through a daily rhythm of periods of video teaching from Cynthia\, Centering Prayer\, mindful work\, mindful movement\, sharing\, and contemplative free time. \nFacilitators: \nHeather Ruce\, M.A. is a spiritual director and meditation teacher. She leads monthly Wisdom Practice Circles desiring to help others wake up to a different kind of presence. She has been trained as a therapist and in a mindfulness and somatic based approach to trauma healing. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, clinical psychologist\, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center. She has a special interest in contemplative practices and the benefits of these practices in our individual and collective lives at this time in our world. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director dedicated to fostering Centering Prayer and other contemplative practices that help us become aware of God's ever-present love. As a scientist\, she sees in the physical world an expression of that love. \nPlease register at www.mercy-center.org or telephone 650-340-7474.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Dual-Track Intensive Post-Intensive Retreat
DESCRIPTION:This retreat is an opportunity for practitioners of Centering Prayer to deepen their contemplative journey in the contemporary world. It is a week-long experience of integrating contemplation and action through silence\, solitude and community. \nThe retreat offers two tracks. The Intensive Track is recommended for people who have completed the Introductory Workshop and who have a regular practice of Centering Prayer. The Post-Intensive Track is for those people who have previously made an eight-day Intensive Retreat. The Post-Intensive offers increased silence and additional periods of Centering Prayer. Both the Intensive and Post-Intensive Centering Prayer Retreat provide daily experiences of silence\, solitude\, walking\, hiking\, yoga\, and spiritual companionship to foster an ever-deepening level of interior silence and awareness of the presence of God in everyday life. \nThe Rev. Tom Ward is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel\, teaching Centering Prayer and leading retreats. \nThe Anna Guest House is currently full for this event; rooms are available in St. Mary's Hall. SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Centering Prayer is a form of Christian silent mediation where one lets go of thoughts during periods of prayer typically lasting 20 minutes. It is rooted in the self-emptying love that forms the heart of Jesus’ teaching and life. The effect on those who practice it is an ever-increasing awareness of God’s action and presence in the course of ordinary life. \nIn this introductory workshop led by Tom Ward\, participants will learn the method and principles of this prayer practice and have the opportunity to experience this ancient method in a quiet\, reflective atmosphere. \nThe Rev. Tom Ward is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel\, teaching Centering Prayer\, and leading retreats. \n9 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, Saturday\, August 3\, 2019 \n$65 fee includes lunch \nFor more information go to www.stmaryssewanee.org

\n9 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, Saturday\, July 20\, 2019 \n$60 fee includes lunch \nFor more information go to <www.stmaryssewanee.org>.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, July 19 to Sunday\, July 21\, 2019 Centering Prayer Retreat \nDirected by Cathy Hightower\, Mark Dannenfelser and Maggie Winfrey  \nDelve into a deeply spiritual experience growing closer to God on a two-night Centering Prayer retreat. Transform and deepen your relationship with God through Centering Prayer. Renew your mind by absorbing the wisdom of mystical masters. Open and refresh your center with gentle yoga. Discover the healing benefits of mindful walking on beautiful natural trails.  Centering Prayer is a method that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplation by cultivating interior silence and purity of heart. Centering Prayer was distilled from the profound and ancient teachings of the Christian contemplative heritage first evident in the early Desert Fathers and Mothers. The method\, as taught by Trappist monk\, Fr. Thomas Keating\, O.C.S.O.\, uses silence and attention to encourage the development of alert receptivity of God’s presence and action within.  An atmosphere of silence will be maintained during the retreat.  \nPlease see the flyer below under "Additional Information." \nTo register\, go to \nhttps://www3.thedatabank.com/dpg/473/donate.asp?formid=Enrichment&c=587664
