SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Retreat
DESCRIPTION:  \nContemplative Outreach of Central PA presents: \nContemplative Attitudes Through the Practice of Centering Prayer \nA Retreat Based on the work of David Frenette \n\n	October 11-13\, 2019 (Fri. to Sun.) \n\n	Presenters: Roberta White and Nancy Cord-Baran \nIn the teachings of Jesus\, there are prayers\, and then there is prayer—the silent\, loving communion with the divine\, beyond words or ritual. With Father Thomas Keating’s book Open Mind\, Open Heart\, hundreds of thousands discovered the transformative power of Centering Prayer as a form of Christian meditation. Now\, with The Path of Centering Prayer\, Keating’s senior student\, friend\, and adviser\, David Frenette\, reveals the profound depths of this practice\, facilitating a deepening of intimacy with God. \nThe retreat will focus on the contemplative attitudes\, as reflected upon in David’s book. It will also include silence and Centering Prayer. \nContemplative attitudes\, the fruits of contemplative prayer\, are revealed in daily life and we will explore how to foster them. Such qualities as simplicity\, gentleness\, letting go\, resting in God\, embracing\, and finally integrating one’s experience of prayer into one’s daily life\, are paired with David’s Guided Meditations. \nThis retreat is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners. \nCheck in is from 3:00 to 5:00 Friday afternoon. There will be an optional video on the method of Centering Prayer (recommended for those new to the practice) at 4:00 PM. \nA reception and welcoming at 5:30 begins the retreat\, followed by dinner. \nOffering: $195\n	Deposit: $75 \nRoberta White has been involved with Contemplative Outreach since 2001. She has led retreats throughout the country on Centering Prayer\, the Forgiveness Prayer\, Lectio Divina\, the Welcoming Prayer Practice and Centering Prayer as an 11th-step Practice. She has served on the Formation Team for those preparing to become commissioned Centering Prayer workshop presenters. Roberta formerly served as co-coordinator of the Atlanta Chapter of Contemplative Outreach and is currently a member of the Contemplative Outreach of Atlanta Leadership Team. \nNancy Cord-Baran is a Spiritual Director\, Co-Coordinator for the Contemplative Outreach of Central PA and a member of the Formation Team.  Nancy has been practicing Centering Prayer since 1998 and has been inspired on numerous retreats with David Frenette.  She is a Commissioned Presenter for Centering Prayer\, the Forgiveness Prayer and 12-step Outreach. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Weekend Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Opening to God in Sound & Silence:	Bringing Chant into the Heart of Prayer \nOctober 4-6\, 2019 (Fri. to Sun.) \nPresenter: Keith Kristich \nCultures and religions all over the world raise their voice in sacred song and chant to connect with the One who is within. In this weekend retreat\, we will focus on bringing the universal practice of chant into our contemplative prayer and meditation practice. Chant is an intimate way of deepening the heartfulness inherent in contemplative prayer. Cynthia Bourgeault teaches “What mediation accomplishes in the silence\, chanting accomplishes in the sound.” In this way\, chanting is a beautiful way to externalize our internal desire for the One within. \nParticipants can expect a balance between sound and silence\, chanting and silent contemplation\, as well as\, some time to write\, reflect and share in small group conversation. Although it may be of particular interest to practitioners of Centering Prayer\, it is open to anyone with a contemplative practice of their own. \nKeith Kristich is certified with the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation in leading contemplative prayer groups and retreats\, as well as with Contemplative Outreach as a presenter of Centering Prayer. \nOffering: $190\n	Deposit: $75 nonrefundable

Bill Sheehan\, OMI and Elizabeth Oleksak\, SP \n11TH-STEP CENTERING PRAYER\n	October 4th-6th\, 2019. \nCentering Prayer is a method that can be used for doing the 11th-Step. It improves our conscious contact with and deepens our relationship to our Higher Power\, whether we call that power God\, Allah\, Mother\, another name or no name. It is simply moving deep within oneself\, in silence\, saying nothing\, asking for nothing\, just being and allowing our Higher Power to be with us. \nRetreat begins on Friday with supper at 6pm and concludes with lunch at noon on Sunday.   \nMadeleine Joy\, SP\, Fr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI and Elizabeth Oleksak\, SP \nClick here for more information and to register for this Retreat.

DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming our Mystical Roots – This workshop focuses on the Christian Contemplative Heritage as a vital resource for today‚Äôs contemplative life. \nReclaiming our Mystical Roots\n	Saturday\, September 28\, 2019\n	8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.\n	Dr. Rickey Cotton \nThis workshop focuses on the Christian Contemplative Heritage as a vital resource for today’s contemplative life. We begin the discussion with the Christian desert hermits who lived in Egypt\, Palestine and Syria from the third to the fifth centuries AD\, who sought to transcend themselves and live fully for God using both Jesus and John the Baptist as models. We’ll also look at their key monastic descendants ranging across the fifth to late nineteenth centuries. \nClick here for more information and to register for this workshop. \nDr. Rickey Cotton is a Contemplative Outreach commissioned presenter of Centering Prayer and Lectio Divina and a member of the faculty for Contemplative Outreach’s Living Flame program. Rickey has developed and presented many contemplative workshops around the country\, including ones on Meister Eckhart and Raimon Panikkar’s Christophany. SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Weekend Retreat
DESCRIPTION:A Weekend Centering Prayer Retreat for Women and Men	with Fr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI\n	September 6 – 8\, 2019\n	Friday\, 5:00 p.m. – Sunday\, 1:30 p.m. \nFr. Bill Sheehan\, OMI has been deeply committed to Contemplative Outreach since it was founded in 1983 by Fr. Thomas Keating\, OCSO.  For more than three decades he has led centering prayer workshops and retreats throughout the United States and abroad. He has a rich background as a pastor\, director of ministry to priests\, novice director\, director of formation\, provincial\, and director of the Oblate House of Theology. Among teachers of the faith journey and presence of the divine indwelling\, few deserve the title “master teacher” as does Fr. Bill. He offers a weekend of rest and renewal\, through spiritual enrichment  and the communal sharing of silence with the Divine.  Father Bill lives in the St. Eugene House Oblate Residence in Lowell\, Massachusetts. \nThe method of Centering Prayer is both a relationship with God and a practice to foster that relationship. \nThe Gospel of Matthew expresses God’s desire for our happiness with Jesus’ call for us to go into our inner room\, close the door and pray to our Father in secret  Yet\, as Fr. Bill reminds us\, the greatest obstacle to our spiritual journey is to pray as if we are separated from God. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is this intimacy and tenderness that God offers us\, as St. Augustine declared\, “You have made us for yourself\, O Lord\, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” \nThe human ego longs for a compassionate gaze. With the practice of silence\, we can become gradually loosened from the exaggerated ego demands that distract us from the trust and faith in the Divine Indwelling. We are all one with God—it is our common ground\, our interconnectedness with each other and all of creation. God is love and when we pray\, we open ourselves to feel that love. Join us as we gather for a weekend free of distractions to enjoy the gift of silent presence with God who made you and loves you beyond imagination. \nMore details available from philstone@cox.net. \n  \n
