SUMMARY:The Welcoming Prayer — An Introduction
DESCRIPTION:The Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events and situations in daily life. The purpose of the Welcoming Prayer is to deepen our relationship with God through consenting in the ordinary activities of our day. It helps to dismantle the emotional programs of the false-self system and to heal the wounds of a lifetime by addressing them where they are stored — in the body. This practice contributes to the process of transformation in Christ initiated in Centering Prayer. \nIn this introductory workshop\, led by the Rev. Tom Ward\, participants will learn the method and principles of this prayer practice and have the opportunity to experience this ancient method in a quiet\, reflective atmosphere. \nThis event takes place via Zoom; to participate\, you must have internet access and a computer or tablet with an internet connection.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer as an 11-Step Practice for Persons in 12-Step Recovery Groups
DESCRIPTION:In 2001\, The 12 Step Outreach program of Contemplative Outreach was established to offer Centering Prayer to people in all 12 Step fellowships as an 11th Step prayer/meditation practice. We help individuals and groups establish contemplative prayer practices through workshops\, retreats and formation programs. Many people are already practicing Centering Prayer and find it to be transformative to their recovery. 12-Step Outreach offers retreats and introductory workshops that teach this method in more depth. \nCentering Prayer is an ancient meditation practice that has been used over the centuries\, but it is different from what we may think of as prayer. It is not the type of prayer we are used to\, like praying for something we want. It is simply moving deep within ourselves\, in silence\, saying nothing\, asking for nothing\, just being\, by letting go of our thoughts and allowing our Higher Power to be with us. The practice of Centering Prayer has parallels with other traditional practices and is simple and easy to do. \nSee the website link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Centering Prayer Weekend Retreat (ONLINE)
DESCRIPTION:Healing and Transformation on the Contemplative Path \nNovember 13-15\, 2020\nBegins Friday at 10:00 a.m. and\nConcludes Sunday at 1 p.m.\n$225 (Scholarship funds available on request) \nWhen we take our first loving step towards God on the contemplative path we may or may not realize that we are crossing a threshold into a new transformative way of living – one which requires us to let go of our illusions about ourselves and in humility embrace the truth of who we are\, an identity yet to be discovered. This transformative process becomes a means of healing life’s traumas and our unconscious motivations thus bringing us into a deeper awareness of our true nature and expanding our perception and understanding of humanity and our place in the universe. \nPlease join us for a weekend – with God\, and with a praying community– to deepen our consent to this transformation. \nHow will the virtual retreat work?\nThe flexible schedule is designed to integrate prayer with your daily life\, in your home\, and in your circumstances as they are. Teaching sessions will include experiential\, participatory\, and embodied exercises to draw us in more deeply into the healing\, contemplative space. Breaks will be provided to help integrate the retreat with your life\, as it is. \nProgram Features\n• Live Online Centering Prayer Sessions – Join via Zoom at scheduled times\, or practice on your own at those same scheduled times\, or as your life permits.\n• Live Online Teaching Sessions – Join us live via Zoom or view recordings at a later time.\n• Live Online Small Groups – for experiential processing (not recorded).\nWe hope that you will choose as much or as little of it as fits in your life\, on any given day. Let the rest go. Be met\, exactly where you are\, trusting that God’s love surrounds all of it\, all of us\, exactly as we are. \nRev. Amber Sturgess is an Episcopal Priest\, spiritual director\, and a seeker on the contemplative path. She enjoys teaching contemplative practices that deepen our spiritual awareness. Amber currently serves as Rector of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Carmel. \nCatherine Regan\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, retired psychologist\, and adjunct staff member at Mercy Center\, primarily serving on the Centering Prayer team. She has a special interest in participating in the reclamation of the Christian Wisdom tradition and fostering the contemplative practices so urgently needed at this time in our world. \nJoy Andrews Hayter\, Ph.D. is a spiritual director\, and Centering Prayer coordinator at Mercy Center. Joy is dedicated to fostering contemplative practices such as Centering Prayer and others within the Christian Wisdom tradition that help us become aware of God’s ever-present love. As a scientist (and dancer\, writer\, and hiker) she sees in the physical world an expression of that love. \nPlease save the date. Registration will open soon at www.mercy-center.org or telephone 650-340-7474\nRegistration closes November 12\, 2020

SUMMARY:A Tale of Two Thomases: Crossing Troubles Waters with Thomas Keating and Thomas Berry
DESCRIPTION:“It’s all a question of story. We are in trouble just now because we do not have a good story. We are between stories. ”\n~ Thomas Berry \nThe recent pandemic has shown just how connected and small the 21st century world has become. The fragility of the human species is more evident with each passing day. To cross these troubled waters\, we need wise guides. Fortunately\, two men named Thomas can help to lead us through these challenging times. Rick Klein will weave together the inner journey spiritual wisdom of Thomas Keating with the outer journey spiritual and scientific wisdom of Thomas Berry\, creating an emerging story of hope for the future. \nRick gives talks and workshops on contemplative spirituality throughout Colorado. He is a teacher of Centering Prayer and has presented workshops on science and spirituality\, compassion\, and mysticism at the Center for Contemplative Living. He is a past facilitator and teacher in the Benedictine Spiritual Formation Program offered by Benet Hill Monastery. \nThere is no book for this class. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Centering for Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:“The Centering for Wisdom™ Assessment (CWA) reveals where you tend to become distracted by attachments to the “false self.” In this workshop\, you will learn to apply your CWA results to cultivate deeper discernment in daily life. As you let go into non-dual awareness the distinctions between “action” and “contemplation” begin to fade away. You become open to the dynamic guidance of the Spirit’s Wisdom in all things – guided by God’s love “in my resting and my rising” (Psalm 139).” \nThis includes both a Live and Zoom option. \nTom Bushlack\, Ph.D.\, is Regional Director of Mission Integration with SSM Health in St. Louis\, MO\, where he lives with his wife Anna and their three children. He fell in love with the contemplative life as a student at St. John’s University and the College of St. Benedict (Collegeville\, MN). DESCRIPTION:“Centering Prayer and Enneagram” retreat is meant for anyone who wants to advance in their contemplative prayer practice with a deeper knowledge of who we are and why we do the things we do. Knowing who we are is the first step into growing in wisdom. Enneagram personality types will show us what motivates us and why some of us can focus\, learn\, pray\, and have a discipline of life better than others. \nThis online one-day retreat on zoom is a quick look into the Enneagrammic person in us. When we know what inspires us\, then it will be easier for us to pray and play. When we pray well\, we will play well\, meaning\, we will do whatever we do for living joyfully. \nSet aside one day and take this program from the comfort of your home. Each session is about 20 minutes long with a 10 minutes break in between. You can interact with Fr. Jos while you are attending just like being in a classroom. You don’t need to download anything or call anyone. Just simply be home in your PJs and have a cup of coffee and relax\, learn\, and grow. Register now and you will be provided with a secure link for the Zoom Retreat. \n09:30 am Introduction and Prayer\n10: 00 am Session 1\n10: 50 am break\n11: 00 am Session 2\n11: 50 am Centering Prayer Session\n12: 10 pm Lunch break\n01: 00 pm Session 3\n01: 50 pm break\n02: 00 pm Session 4\n02: 50 pm break\n03: 00 pm Session 5\n04: 00 pm Concluding Prayer \nRegistration Link: https://hobs.houseofblessings.org/hobsretreat/256/4th-centering-prayer-and-enneagram-retreat/
