SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking for a way to explore or deepen your relationship with God? \nIn our introductory workshop to Centering Prayer\, you will discover a centuries-old prayer method. Centering Prayer consists of simply sitting in silence with God—beyond thoughts\, words\, and emotions—and opening our mind\, heart and whole being to the Ultimate Mystery. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn the basics of Centering Prayer\, experience it in a guided setting\, and be able to ask questions and share experiences with the presenter and your fellow initiates. \nCentering Prayer is based on a Christian contemplative practice first described in The Cloud of Unknowing\, written in the latter half of the 14th Century. It calls one to abandon any consideration of God’s attributes and actions\, and to surrender to The Creator’s influence in our lives. \n It is a very personal prayer practice but is also practiced in groups. It opens one to God’s infinite love and power to heal\, and opens the door to other related prayer practices around forgiveness\, and dealing with painful situations and emotions. \nTime listed for the workshop are Mountain Time. \nClick on the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Centering Prayer retreat weekend
DESCRIPTION:St. Benedict frequently unites silence and prayer in the work of seeking God. Centering Prayer is one of several prayer practices that flow out of Benedictine Life. Thomas Merton describes Centering Prayer as “a ‘return to the heart\,’ finding one’s deepest center\, awakening the profound depths of our being in the presence of God.” The goal is to be present to the Lord and aware of the divine action within you. \nThis introductory retreat will provide the background and fundamentals of Centering Prayer and teach how to develop a continuing practice. \nLeaders \nDonna Kreiensiecki is a Contemplative Outreach commissioned presenter. She has 20 years of experience offering Centering Prayer retreats and has practiced Centering Prayer for 30 years. Mary Bieter is a certified spiritual director trained at the Shalem Institute in Washington\, D.C. She was introduced to Centering Prayer twenty years ago and is a newly commissioned presenter with Contemplative Outreach. She has adopted a consistent daily practice of Centering Prayer in recent years and hopes she can help others discover the peace and clarity it can offer. \nPlease see the link below for more information and to register.

SUMMARY:Intro to Centering Prayer Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you seek the still small voice of God? Do you seek a more intimate relationship with God? Come and find a way to deepen your relationship with God. \nCentering Prayer is a method of consenting to God’s presence and action within. It prepares us to receive God’s gift of contemplative prayer\, which is an opening of our hearts and minds to God beyond thoughts\, words\, and emotions. This prayer practice\, rooted in the Christian contemplative heritage\, helps us embrace the process of transformation in Christ. The Centering Prayer Introductory Program is designed to share the method of Centering Prayer and offer support in making it a part of daily life. The workshop includes themes of Prayer as Relationship\, The Method of Centering Prayer\, Thoughts and Use of the Sacred Word\, and Deepening Our Relationship with God\, along with time in Centering Prayer and the opportunity to submit questions. \nThose already practicing Centering Prayer and are looking for an in-person experience are welcome to both the Introductory session and to the ongoing sessions. \nPaula Whatley Matabane will be presenting the workshop. Paula is a commissioned presenter of contemplative prayer through Contemplative Outreach\, Inc. She is a practicing spiritual director affiliated with Ignatius House Jesuit Retreat Center in Atlanta\, ordained itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church\, and professor emerita of Howard University in Washington\, DC. Her memoir on her grandmother’s life in rural Southwest Georgia in the 1890s is soon to be published. The Atlanta native is a mother and not ashamed to describe herself as a resolute family historian-genealogist\, social activist\, cat lover\, and bicyclist. Her favorite scripture is Romans 11:29 “The gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.” \nScholarships are available.
