To Practice
- Prayerfully re-read these passages again in the manner of Lectio Divina, reading them aloud to engage more of your senses and feel the vibrations in your body. Gaze at the image. What do you receive for your journey now?
- Practice the Welcoming Prayer to deepen your practice of letting go in ordinary life. Be sure to start with the sensations in the body – the body lives in the present moment and never lies. Even if you forget to use this practice in the moment, if the sensations of the event are still with you later, practice the Welcoming Prayer. This playlist of videos may assist you in your Welcoming practice.
- Consider attending a multi-day retreat this year to deepen your practice and the transformative process; you may find in-person and online options on the website calendar here. Or you may wish to create your own retreat at home, unplugging from commitments and media, adding extra periods of Centering Prayer, a time of spiritual reading, resting, body movement, etc. Even setting one day aside for retreat can be a great gift of deepening.
If you wish, you may re-read the full email reflection here: https://mailchi.mp/coutreach/2025_word-of-the-week-aug24

“To guide us toward the love that we most desire, we must be taken where we could not and would not go on our own” Today is a special anniversary for me; some call it diamond, others sapphire; I prefer sapphire. Looking back Gerald May’s phrase rings so true. ‘The narrow gate”, we get it in small doses; every CP sit is me before the narrow gate; the gift of consenting is like the image; without my knowing, the pulsating movements carry me, breath by breath, dad by day, year by year to today – bowing THANKFUL/GRATEFUL/BLESSED – I sit in the movement of the image, obscure is okay!

I received several prayer sentences for my journey from today’s reflection.
From Cynthia Bourgeault: Centering prayer … kenosis in meditation form.
From Ilia Delio: Welcome the refining fire that consumes whatever obstructs love while building communities of profound compassion.
From Seng Ts’an: Do not like, do not dislike: all will then be clear.
