To Practice
- Use Psalm 23, the “Good Shepherd Psalm,” as a source of meditation for a few days. Linger with the imagery; savor the love and refreshment that the psalm offers. Take a verse into each day and use it intentionally in each new situation of the day, as far as that is possible. If you practice prayer for the deceased, see them in the light of this psalm and surround them with its peace and intimacy.
- If a situation arises that triggers resentment, resistance, anxiety, or any other afflictive emotion, pause and practice the Welcoming Prayer, sinking into the sensations of the moment and welcoming your experience without judgment. When you have time later, reflect on this experience and perhaps journal your thoughts and feelings.
