To Practice
- We live distracted lives, often feeding on the trivial and negative — scrolling through our phones and other devices or letting TV or streaming media move to the next program without consciously deciding how to use our time and energy. If this sort of thing bogs you down, resolve for one or more days to set a time limit on electronic and entertainment media. Use an app or timer if that helps. At the end of your intended time, stand at the crossroads and resume the day’s ordinary activities with the intention of serving Divine Love in your world. Alternatively, simply take a day to fast from media. In either case, what do you discover?
- The legend speaks of knowing which interior “wolf” we are feeding. What are the characteristics of your inner wolves? Set a conscious intention to feed the right one for a day and then pray over or journal your experience. How does your experience parallel our central belief in the Paschal mystery of Christ at work in our lives, as we daily die to the small self and rise to the expansive freedom of God-life?
- You may be interested in these 40-day praxis booklets (also available as digital PDFs) as an intentional pilgrimage or to learn a new practice:
- Discernment: Practicing the Holy Spirit: The booklet reviews the five movements of a contemplative discernment practice and invites participants to use their own real-life questions during this 40-day praxis.
- Contemplative Service: Contemplative service is explored through three themes over 40-days: Formed for Service; Divine Love in Action; and Service as Presence.
