Meridith Schifsky curated and illustrated this book in honor of Thomas Keating and as a gift to Centering Prayer practitioners. She writes this in the Introduction: “I first met Father Thomas at a retreat in Snowmass, Colorado in the fall of 1987, a watershed experience for me. In the years following I saw him regularly at retreats and conferences. As I listened to him speak, his words struck my heart deeply and I was moved to start using my pens and colors to ‘art’ a visual representation of his quotes. In the early 1990’s Father Thomas gave me verbal permission to use his words on cards, bookmarks and paintings for Contemplative Outreach conferences. Then in March of 2009 he gave me written permission to use his published words in my artwork.
“Through a series of serendipitous kindnesses of dear friends, this book has finally come to fruition, a book for use with the prayer practices of Lectio and Visio Divina. This man of God modeled for us a love of God and encouraged us to consent to the process of interior transformation so that we might ‘love one another’ and respond in our ordinary lives with increasing sensitivity to the Divine Presence in everything around us.
