My thanks to Richard Rohr, one of my hero theologians, who has suggested we all develop our own personal creed. This is mine. And a shout-out to the developers of the Nicene & Apostolic Creeds, a jumping off point for me.
I believe in God
and not God.
also known as
Ultimate Reality,
Ultimate Mystery,
That-Which-Is,
Ground of Being,
Divine Energy of the Universe
and within each human being,
Yahweh,
Buddha Nature
Brahman,
Allah,
Divine Indwelling,
Great Spirit,
Being,
Supernatural Existential,
Existence,
Eternity,
ABBA,
Ground of all Potentiality
and Higher Power
(to name just a few.)
I believe in the Incarnation
and Re-incarnation,
Creation
and Re-creation.
The dance of the Trinity,
The Universal Christ,
The Word,
Logos,
spoken in silence
and heard in silence
and in everyday life.
I believe in the fundamental goodness
of human nature
and creation.
I believe that all humanity
is on a spiritual journey
and creation, too,
and will be transformed
into a consciousness
that has been called
Divine Union,
Enlightenment,
Heaven,
Bliss,
Paradise,
Nirvana,
Medicine Lake,
Serenity,
or some other reality
where we will be One
with each other
and fully One with the One.
I believe that this ‘God’
walked the earth
to show us
how to love
perfectly
with our imperfections.
I believe that God is
All-in-All.
That God is Love,
Unconditional Love,
and that is what we are destined to be
and in some ways, already are.
