The Deserts Roots of Contemplative Prayer: Emptiness, Silence & Hiddenness of Self – in person and via Zoom

September 25, 2024 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

donation

Belden C. Lane, Ph.D. has long been fascinated by the relationship between geography and spirituality—asking how the place we live has an effect on our perception of the spiritual life. The desert, for example, is a place of scarcity, silence, and the deep solitude of the heart. It’s what drew the Desert Fathers and Mothers to the Egyptian desert in the 4th century. This is where the practice of contemplative prayer had its beginnings. We’ll look at three themes in the stories told by the early desert monks: the simplicity of language, radical forgiveness, and hiddenness of the self.

This event is in person and via Zoom. It will include a time of Centering Prayer.
