To Practice
- Set out on a “journey” with the intention to walk slowly and contemplatively for a set amount of time. Give your awareness to the ambient light. After a few moments, imagine that light entering your body, growing brighter and stronger, filling your being, warming all that is within you. Once full of light, shift your focus to the path, buildings, birds, plants, trees, other beings, whatever is near you. Notice how all of creation shares the light, is illuminated by light. As your journey draws to a close, remember the calling to be light. Offer a prayer of gratitude for light and for this vocation.
- Ponder again these words from last week’s Word of the Week: “It is a rare and precious gift to be with companions seeking Ultimate Reality, willing to undergo transformation of our whole being and to be a presence of unconditional Love in the world. The Incarnation continues in you, as you. Blessed are you who live the Light into this world.”
- In Circle of Grace, Jan Richardson imagines the Magi’s journey home “by another way.” You might use this text for lectio divina. What word or phrase resonates for you? What memories or reflections come to mind? How might you respond to the Divine Indwelling about what has been stirred up in you? Be sure to end your period of contemplative prayer by resting in the Light. (Go to the email to read the full poem: https://mailchi.mp/coutreach/2026_word-of-the-week-jan4)
